Hello Clovis and Clovista! A running joke throughout this story. Amusing and nicely written, this story is worth a read. And don't forget Virgil the cat who plays a lead part in developing the romance. Not to mention tropical islands and silly games..oh, and handcuffs.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was absolutely in love with this cover, but unfortunately, this book didn't work for me and fell a little flat. With rivals-to-lovers I'm always looking for something specific and I just didn't get it with Daisy and Zan. This was a quick read though, so if you're looking for something short and sweet, I would recommend picking this one up. And the cover is still one of my favorites of the last year. Model covers can be hit or miss, but this was a big hit for me!
Absolutely loved the is book! The banter and two perspectives kept me wanting more. I enjoy the enemies to lovers trope. Highly recommend.
Pretty good book.. With some funny parts and the steamy scenes were fantastic..... This is my first time reading a book by this author and would totally read more ...
Zan and Daisy are both the CEOs of rival hotel chains, the rivalry stems from family drama from generations ago. Both are trying to acquire a different hotel chain as part of their portfolios and in order to get the owner of said hotel chain on board they are required to attend a four-day team-building challenge. Zan and Daisy team up if only to keep the enemy close. They agree to an agreement while on the island, but feelings soon get involved as well as a betrayal on the horizon. Can their love keep them together?
It was a quick fun read and liked that the female character wasn't a skinny girl. The chemistry between the two was great but I didn't like that the book was written in the third person.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book.
I loved everything about this book: the plot, the characters, the SMUT. Wish I could read this for the first time again because it was just so good.
An enemies to lovers romance.
I enjoyed this book, it was a nice easy read for me, it was easy to flow and follow along. There was banter between the two MC which I really enjoyed.
If your looking for a book that you can DEVOUR in a day then this is it.
We're given a real 'romeo and julliet' feel with our MC's and im here for it. The angst, the banter, top teir.
I absolutely loved the idea that Zan and Daisy had to survive each other at a retreat where couples were looking for love. I mean we all knew what was going to happen and I loved every second. The too and fro from both of them had me giggling and when they finally kissed *chefs kiss*.
Now the one thing I didn't like about this book was the constant mentioning of Daisy's body. Yes, describe how her dress fits, use it to help me visualise her character but I don't need to read about how she's insecure about her body etc, especially if it doesn't help aid the plot.
I also found Zan to be quiet niave surrounding his business decision. And it sort of blurred my love for his character a little bit.
But overall, I really liked this book. It was quick, witty and had a nice bit of *spice*.
this book hooked me from the get go, enjoyable read, characters were brilliant loved everything about them, they fit perfect together, story line didn't drag or make you feel weird, ive recommened this to a few people who very much enjoyed the read aswell.
Rivals to lovers. Who doesn't love this trope? Daisy and Alexander are CEO's of their companies and have a family and business feud for generations. What happens when the two of them are put together in a team building exercise in a romantic island getaway?
Starting off this book was a fun, exciting and interesting read but the hero did not do it for me. Alexander was no Knight in shining armour! My view of him was bad though he got a decent character development during the course of their relationship. I felt the grovelling just wasn't enough.
Daisy was great, hardworking, strong and a bit of OCD. But well she was quite easily smitten by him though she gave him a chase towards the end which made me proud of her. The steamy scenes were good.
Looking forward to the next book in the series
I honestly had a hard time with this book. I personally found the main characters hard to connect to and couldn't sense the chemistry between them.
this book was such a quick, fun, romance read! i liked getting to read the development of their relationship and both of the characters. i also loved how the fmc was curvy but i didn’t like how it was constantly mentioned over and over and over again. unfortunately, i think the plot was a little confusing and all over the place. also i tried my best but i really just couldn’t like zan especially after what happened later in the book. he did go through some character development at the end but i felt like everything that happened in the first 80% of the book was all for nothing lmao. i also just really hated his inability to see what he’d done wrong.
thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for sending me this ARC! all opinions are my own.
'Bound to the Rival CEO' by Hayson Manning is a funny and steamy rivals to lovers romance that has chemistry jumping off of the page.
Once I picked this book up, I could not put it down. Daisy and Zan's chemistry is off the charts and I can actually believe the two are attracted to one another.
Daisy is the CEO of a company along with her 2 sisters and Alexander (Zan) is the CEO of his company along with his two brothers. (I think you can see where this series ends up.) At first, I didn't know if this would knock my socks off the way I feel like a rivals to lovers romance should, but it mostly surpassed my expectations.
The first 2/3 of this book is very good, the banter between the two characters is great and their conversations are funny, they have inside jokes and the chemistry is really good. They are opposites in virtually every way. Daisy really enjoys making rules and lists and sticking to them. The restrictions she sets for herself keep her focused on what direction to go next, and she almost never travels unless its for an important reason. Our male hero, Zan, hates rules and lists, and can't stay in one place too long without feeling he's trapped.
These two companies are going up against each other to place a bid on a resort and one of the stipulations is that all interested buyers have to participate in the resort before giving their bids and presentations.
These two meet at the resort and are together the whole time. There is the one bed trope, rivals to lovers, and forced proximity. All of these things add up to Daisy and Zan's time at the resort experience very steamy.
Their relationship for the most part felt very natural and did not feel like the author was trying to force something not there. The only issue I had before the last third of the book is just a comment that Daisy made about Ebola. I don't know if anyone else will feel like it was a bit weird to have a joke made about an epidemic that killed 11,000 people, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Towards the last third of the book, the writing starts seeming more and more rushed like the author just wanted to get the book finished. I still ended up enjoying it but Zan definitely did not do enough groveling at the end. There were time jumps that felt rushed and I think this book would have been even better with about 25 more pages and would have pushed it up another half star for me.
Overall, this is a pretty good rivals to lovers romance book. I am interested in reading the other siblings books, and reading more from this author. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs a quick spicy romance read with a funny cast of characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this story and I loved the characters!
I thought that this book had a great storyline and it was well written.
The pace for the story was good and it kept me reading and entertained.
It was a romantic and sexy read - From enemies to lovers, they didn't stand a chance
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this ARC.
An Enemy to Lovers read.
Rivals Zan and Daisy are CEO’s after the same company.
I really enjoyed this book. Entertains and had everything you want in a romance novel.
The plot was good and the characters were well written. Had me full on laughing at times which I like.
Recommend.
I'm at a loss, folks. I felt like there were huge chunks missing from this book. Like, maybe the author wrote it but it was edited out because there were gaps that I felt could've used more context. Overall, the storyline and characters didn't work as well as I hoped for me because it felt disjointed. 1.5 stars.
"Right man, wrong family"
Daisy and Zan are rival CEO's who are after the same company to buy out. They are on a team building retreat, which was ran by said company. They are both attracted to each other, but have a rivalry that runs deep into their veins for generations. As the old saying goes keep your friends close and enemies closer.
"I'm not getting in there with you. You flip on a dime. all nice one moment and the next you're Darth Vader."
I enjoyed the book, it was a fun quick read and I devoured in one sitting and flew through it. I liked that daisy was a curvy, female main character, which made a nice change. However, I didn't like the amount of times it was mentioned. I always enjoyed a romance with spice scenes, there were a few but some I felt could have been expanded on more but that was my own preference.
Thank you Netgalley for a copy of the book.
My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️.5
Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thanks to Netgalley and the author/publisher.
General Thoughts: The theme of the month is "I picked this up on a whim." And that's true of this one too. I knew nothing about the author or the book. And I'm so glad I picked it up. The writing was great, the characters were fun, and the plot was well thought out.
It was a cute, fun, and "predictable in all the best ways" read. This is a forced proximity, enemies/rivals to lovers, steamy read, and is another one that I think would be a perfect beach or poolside read. I really enjoyed it. I'm hoping that we see more of the sisters and brothers of the FMC/MMC in books to come. This was my first novel by the author, but it definitely won't be my last.
If you're looking for a fun, quick, lighthearted enemies/rivals to lovers read, this one has you covered. And if you love R&J type books, also for you.
Steam Meter: ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥. It's steamy but not as graphic as many others in the genre.
Memorable Lines::
-"Kill me in my sleep, and I will haunt you, and not like a friendly ghost."
-Four little words crept into her mind again: right man, wrong family.
-She wasn't under his skin; she was in his bloodstream.
Romantic Tropes
-contemporary romance
-forced proximity
-enemies/rivals to lovers
-"just for now" lovers
Bound to the Rival CEO is part of a series, but can easily be read as a standalone. It's an enemies to lovers romance that could also be classified as a romantic comedy because of all the sassy, witty banter and verbal sparring. There are plenty of steamy scenes, a few where you want to shake sense into the hero and a happy ever after for the couple. I was nevertheless a bit disappointed with the ending and hope we get to see things work out for the siblings in future books.
This was a good, quick read. I liked the main characters and I hope there are sequels with some of the side characters.
