A mind-bending psychological thriller that’s atmospheric and chilling, the tension builds with each page until the final jaw-dropping revelations!
Loved, loved, loved this story!!! It kept me intrigued the whole way through, I read it in one sitting it was that good!!!
This was a different story! I definitely loved the supernatural aspect to it. I wish the kidnapper wasn't declared so soon. I love the character development even though it's not common for this genre. I would recommend to anyone who wants to get into this genre!
This was really well written and had a great story line but I can’t emphasize enough that this is quite a dark read, but it’s worth it if you are in the right mindset. There's underage SA so be warned if you decide to pick this up, It's a great mystery and very suspenseful.
The premise of this book grabbed me instantly, and as I turned the pages, I wasn't disappointed. An absolutely stunning read. I look forward to reading more from the author in the future!
This book has a fresh story that grabs your attention immediately. Layla was murdered two years ago when she was ten. Her family, still in deep mourning, is trying to find a new reality. Her parents want at all costs that the memory of her will not disappear and that the murderer will be caught. Unfortunately, the investigation has stalled, and nothing bodes success. Meanwhile, Gayle, Layla's younger brother, keeps seeing her. Her spirit accompanies him everywhere and helps him through the worst time until Layla's spirit speaks to him, revealing the secret of who killed her... I can honestly say that I came across a crime novel unlike any I have read so far. Original, suspenseful, sometimes funny, but also terrifying and touching. In general, I liked it, although, in a few moments, I had reservations about the probability of the character's behaviour, but as a whole, it is a great story.
This was a beautifully sad story. 10 year old Gale's sister was murdered a couple years ago and life is not the same. Sadness hangs like a cloud in his home. One day Gale gets a visit from his sister Layla in a ghostlike form. Together they work to find who killed her. The trouble is Gale is the only one who can communicate with his sister and must solve the crime and convince everyone of the truth.
I loved this book and highly recommend it!
Two years ago, Gale's sister, Layla died a horrific death and the police still haven't captured the culprit. Layal's parents refuse to move on until their daughter's killer is brought to justice. With no new evidence and no new leads, everyone is at a standstill until Gale tells his mother, "I know who killed Layla, she told me."
Dunnett lets you in on the killer's identity fairly early in the book and then it's a giant race to see who will come out on top. The book was easy to sink into and the chapters were very quick, which kept me as a reader engaged. I would say after the 40% mark, this book was hard to put down. This book deserves way more hype! Only 645 ratings on Goodreads?! Come on people! This is a solid 3 stars for me and a strong one at that. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC and I will be checking out Dunnett again.
It's been two years since Layla was found murdered, after disappearing from the beach in the middle of the day. Ker killer has never been caught. Her family is struggling and is not willing to give up until they find Layla's killer. Layla's little brother, Gale, starts seeing Layla again - but as a ghost. He is the only one who can see Layla. Layla tells Gale who killed her. But how is Gale possibly going to get the cops and his family to believe him? After all, Layla is a ghost. Who would believe this?
I seem to be more in the minority here, but this book was just okay for me. I did not find it suspenseful. It was clear from early on "whodunit". There were not a lot of twist and turns. As an avid thriller reader, this just did not do it for me. I did really enjoy the plot line. I think a lot more could have been done with it, but it was still very interesting. I did not enjoy the fact that Layla was a ghost communicating with Gale. This made the story very unlikely. I thought there would be some sort of explanation for Gale seeing Layla , but nope. The story was reminiscent of the Lovely Bones in certain ways. If you enjoyed that book, you'll probably like this one.
I also think the book could have been a bit shorter. It seemed to drag on, without offering the reader any sort of suspense or good tidbits to compensate. This book is heavily a police procedural, but things are just done so wrong it makes for an unbelievable story.
Thank you Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
After two years Gale still misses and mourns his older sister, Layla. She was abducted and later found murdered and the killer has never been identified. Until Layla tells him. Now Gale has the task of convincing the grown-ups that he communicates with his sister, he can see her, and he can help them solve the case.
Little Ghosts is a book that’s hard to put down. The characters are unforgettable, the plot is unusual and very well-presented, and the murderer exudes an evil personality that seems to ooze off of the page. The dialogue between the siblings is so realistic and, at times enjoyable despite the subject matter. The addition of Ellen Cross, a constable who becomes involved in the investigation is brilliant. She is one of my favorite characters.
Mr Dunnett knows how to tell a compelling story and I thoroughly enjoyed his writing. Little Ghosts is a very good book and deserves 4.5 *s. NetGalley provided an advanced copy.
I missed the download time on this so I bought it after it was archived and I'm glad I did.
The premise is really good and I loved the relationship between Gale & Layla, it was still childish but also mature in ways.
The twist would be easy to spot if you read nothing but crime/thrillers but even though I could see it coming I wasn't ready for it and spent a lot of time "armchair diagnosing" the culprit!
Overall a good read and I'd absolutely loved to see a series for Constable Cross! She seems like she'd have a great character arc/growth!
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing as well as the author for this emotional ARC.

This book affected me more than one has in a long time. I was expecting a horror novel, but that’s not what this was. This was a crime thriller with a heavy dose of emotion. Layla Martin was abducted and brutally murdered two years ago but her family is still reeling from the shock and grief. Her little brother, Gale, is faring better than his parents. That’s because, for him, Layla is still here.
The story here is every parents’ worst nightmare. Normally, I don’t particularly enjoy police procedurals. This is an exception. While there is plenty of procedure in this novel, it’s balanced with wonderful, sympathetic characters and a compelling and action filled storyline. The text isn’t inundated with police minutiae either. We get exactly what we need in order to experience the story in the way that the author intended. The real heart of this story is the relationship between Layla’s ghost and her living brother. Through Gale’s eyes,we feel the horrors of what Layla experiences at the hands of her captor. We also get a glimpse of the unbalanced antagonists’ thoughts and ideas. This was the horror portion of the story, not the presence of a ghost. The author’s writing is beautiful and terrible. I found myself in tears at one particularly heart-rending scene. In addition, the dread and fear increased little by little throughout the story until I struggled to let my two daughters out of my sight. I reminded them of my stranger danger rules several times, much to their irritation.
The only criticism I have is very minor. The end of the story was slightly predictable. The identity of the antagonist was clear very quickly. This is a bit picky though as it didn’t detract from the emotion and action of this story. I do want to mention again that this is a dark story with some significant and potentially triggering scenes.
All in all, I LOVED this book. It was beautiful and horrifying. I feel grateful to this author for reminding me to go over my rules for my daughters regularly, despite the repetitiveness of it, as well as to cherish them. Believe me, I will! I can’t wait to check out Mr, Dunnett’s other books.
Bonus star alert!!! Holy smokes what an amazing book!
I couldn’t put this down. This is definitely in my top 10… ever. I am blow away by how well done this book was. The characters were brilliantly created. The story moved quickly and with a serious plot twist or two. It was heart stopping and gut wrenching. The suspense was incredible. This author just put themselves on the top of my “watch for new books list”
Seriously if you like thriller/suspense you HAVE TO read this one.
A veritable rollercoaster of emotion and fear. And the ending oh my god the ending…. Can you be terrified and emotional at the same time, yes apparently you can. Absolutely amazing !!!
This was such a good book! I read it in one sitting, I could not put it down! The story was very well written and it felt like I was there. I would definitely recommend this book.
Little Ghosts by Gregg Dunnett is a gripping and intriguing read that left me captivated from start to finish. This was my first book by the author, and I am now eager to explore more of his works.
The story revolves around the compelling interaction between a brother and his sister. When the protagonist, Greg, realizes that his sister is not only visible but also communicates with him, he faces the challenge of convincing his skeptical family. The dynamics between the siblings are beautifully portrayed, drawing readers into their unique bond.
I found myself deeply engrossed in the narrative, to the point where I couldn't put the book down. On one occasion, I even stayed up until 2 am, unable to resist the urge to continue reading until I eventually dropped my kindle.
The writing style is crisp and fluid, effectively conveying the emotions and tension within the story. The author's ability to create believable characters and compelling dialogue enhanced the overall reading experience.
In conclusion, Little Ghosts is a captivating and suspenseful novel that kept me engaged throughout. With its well-developed characters, unexpected twists, and a touch of the supernatural, it is a book that I would highly recommend to fans of mystery and family dramas. Kudos to Gregg Dunnett for delivering an enthralling read.

This book gave me heart palpitations....in a good way! I devoured this book in a very short space of time as I needed to know what was going to happen. Loved it!
Very different to anything else I have ever read, its about a child who is abducted and killed and the person is never captured. The child (a young girl) comes back as a ghost but only her brother can see and speak to her. It then follows their relationship and trying to find out who abducted her. A really good twist that I kind of saw coming but was still incredibly shocked when it happened!
Would highly recommend but word of warning that there is child abduction/abuse but nothing too detailed, more implied however there were some scenes that were difficult to read.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
This is my first title by this author and will read more in the future.
Will recommend this to anyone looking for a thriller.
This book had a unique and interesting storyline that i have not read before.
This book is full of mystery, intrigue and twists and turns.
The ending was very sad :(
Thanks again for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
5/5 stars
My first read by Greg, I will definitely check out his other books too. This was an interesting book. It took me a bit because I was multi reading other books too. I was so drawn into the interaction between the brother and his sister. When Greg realized that his sister really was visible and communicating with him, he wasn’t believed when telling his family. There are a lot of twists and turns in this one.
There could easily be some triggers for some people. Kidnapping and implied torture, not a lot of details until the end of the book. I was up until 2 am one night, just couldn’t stop reading until I dropped my phone.
I am going to have to do longer reviews here, short version for Amazon. Has anyone else had reviews kicked back over and over? It says I have broken rules and I reread, can’t find reason why. So I’m going to write my best reviews here, then chop down for them.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in return for my honest review.
Absolutely amazing, demolishes it within a few hours - it was so well written and honestly one of the most gripping books I’ve ever read
I absolutely loved this book as strange as that sounds as a mum of 3 with the given the storyline.
It gripped me from the first chapter and the mix of emotions i felt when i read it kept me even more engaged.
I felt pity, annoyance, sadness and anger all at different points throughout the book and it ended with me in tears.
I really can not wait to see what this author has up his sleeve next as this book was one of the best i have read.
Its made me realise how unsafe this world is though and as a mum of a 10 and 8 year old girls i really resonated with it. I am not ignorant to what happens in the world but it has made me more aware. Il be encouraging all my friends to give it a read.
I highly recommend this book for crime/murder mystery fans.
