Another thoroughly enjoyable read by Michelle Rawlings.
Totally immersed myself once again in the feelings and emotions of the girls as it’s what I imagine during the war to have been like.
A wonderful sequel about this amazing group of women in Sheffield and their foreman. It really gets into the relationships that develop and describes them so that you can almost feel them. To really describe this book there would have to be a spoiler alert, which I don't want to do so instead go and read it, you won't be disappointed.
I absolutely love this book, I enjoyed watching the girls develop and change. The girls stories are so interesting and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
I love Michelle Rawlings, she is an excellent writer and I would read any book she writes.
Thank you Michelle for giving me lots of reading time
Truly special as totally absorbing. It’s wonderful to follow all the characters - Hattie, Daisy, Archie, Betty etc. as they cope with getting through the war. I feel it confirms the importance of friendship and community in troubled times. Thank you Michelle for yet another beautifully written and observed novel!
I enjoyed the fourth book in the series especially the newcomer Hattie. The horrors of WW2 give an insight as to how it affected our brave soldiers fighting for our freedom and the hardships they went through. The women of the steel works are a tight bond of women supporting women and sharing what they could given the rationing. I especially loved how gardens were turned into growing food to share with friends and family. Also how war was seen through children’s eyes and parents trying their very best to shield them as best they could. Well done Michelle looking forward to more in the series and I do hope that Betty will have a future with William as I think she is one of the best characters in the series. I also hope Frank and Ivy get married.
I have been looking forward to reading this next book in the steel girls series and it was definitely worth the wait.
It continues to follow Patty, Nancy and Archie. the characters are as usual complex and likeable person Introducing new girl Hattie, The style is as good as always.. A very enjoyable read.
It is so easy to rejoin the Girls again as you can just picture them in your mind from the last book.
All the familiar names are there, Patty , Betty, Doris, Dolly, Josie and Nancy . Let’s not forget the lads Archie and Frank.
The book follows Nancy as she adapts to life without her Bert, the not knowing what’s happening to him and having to be both parents.
Patty is joined in the factory by her friend Hattie who has her own problems with her home life, mainly down to her father who suffered from the previous war.
I’ve really enjoyed the camaraderie/support of the characters, my favourite one in this book is Frank.
Will there be another!
Another great book in a fantastic series. The Steel Girls have a lot to face in this one, but with the strength of friendship and bonds they’ve made at the Steel Factory, they continue to keep calm and carry on!
Back with the lovely girls at Vickers, the War is rumbling on and with the addition of air raids, it’s not ideal to the girls already burgeoning plates. Poor Nancy has a lot on her mind in this one and it was so heartening to see all of the girls rally round her.
I really do love all the characters in this series and I’ve loved watching their stories unfold and develop throughout the books.
They’re honestly written so well and their ability to capture me without fail has me always looking forward to all the follow ups in this series. Dare I hope for many more to come? I hope so as I dont feel ready to leave these epic women just yet. I’m so intrigued to see more of Hattie’s story as she’s steadily gained more of a role.
It amazes me how easily I slip back in in between books and they always leave me smiling and fulfilled. I couldn’t ask for more.
I absolutely love this series. The storyline is now about a year into the war, and the first serious air raid has gone off. It must have been a scary time, especially working in the factory, which was possibly a target.
I found this quite emotional as Nancy and Bert come to terms with what the war has thrown their way. It was truly heartbreaking watching Nancy go through hell.
Patty is still being Patty and is totally put out when she thinks Archie has forgotten her birthday. I just loved her mannerisms. She definitely brings the light to the story.
The characters feel like friends to me now, so when one of them is sad, I feel it too. They are developing more and more with each book. Any new characters just slot into the mix with ease.
I love how each chapter is a new date and is almost like a diary of events of the war. It is very well researched with lots of thought going into each day. I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
Another brilliant book with the Steel girls and how Patty and Hattie just wanted to help Nancy so much. Great family saga and love once again that the book doesn’t jump it carries on from the last book
You really feel like part of the storyline
