Tracy Sumner has become one of my favorite authors to read. This entire series has been a joy to read, and this latest installment does not disappoint. I was so looking forward to reading Dash and Theo's, and it was worth the wait!
Theodosia (Theo) Astley is half-sister to Helena Astley Darlington, Duchess of Leighton, a beautiful bluestocking who prefers books to the rigamarole of Society.
Dashiell (Dash) Campbell is a Scottish card-sharp turned author adopted into the Leighton Cluster by Xander Macauley. His book on how to gamble is a hit, due to his talent and Theo's wonderful vocabulary.
Their relationship is rife with sparks, but they don't ignite until the night of Theo's engagement ball, where the unthinkable happens. Embarrassed and humiliated, she fled the ball - in Dash's showy carriage. Scandal #1 ensues when Dash follows her and they end up having to take shelter at an inn. They pretend to be married, and are caught together in a steamy embrace by the Leighton cluster - scandal #2.
The usual solution follows: they marry, but make a deal not to fall in love. Here is where the true fun begins: watching them fight their feelings when each encounter only draws them closer. They finally embrace the love, which brings not just passion but also an intimacy that has nothing to do with sex. They are friends AND lovers, and it's beautiful to see it unfold.
There is nothing not to like about this book. It's spicy, romantic, sad, and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment.
Thanks to NetGalley and Wolf Publishing for this arc, which I voluntarily read and reviewed.
Dash and Theo. I need more of them!! The banter and the spice were everything I needed. I spent the entire time smiling and pining for these two.
Theo is an independent woman who is trying to fit in with society. To fit in she gets engaged and it comes out that her fiancé had a mistress who SURPRISE is pregnant. The news causes Theo to escape the party that was for them and escapes into Dash's carriage. With her running away Dash chases after her without anyone knowing. Dash and Theo get caught by Theo’s family and force the 2 to get married to avoid any further scandal.
Dash is a Scottish business man who is trying to make a name for himself with his gambling halls. He is now found himself having to marry Theo. Due to them previously working together and getting along they decided to go into their marriage as just friends with benefits.
True to the friends with benefits troupe that did not really work and of course they ended up falling in love. Dash used his influence to get Theo a teaching job. Theo constantly encouraged Dash in his endeavors. The two starting their relationship as friends really was the building block into becoming more.
I just reviewed Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracy Sumner. #TwoScandalsandaScot #NetGalley
This is it. I fold. I’m going to cash in my chips (time) and move on. This book has convinced me that there is no reason for me to subject myself further to any Duchess Society books. They seem to degrade with each new book. Don’t get me wrong. I have enjoyed many of Tracy Sumner’s books. But this is an epic failure.
I found nothing to indicate that Theo and Dash ever fell in love. They certainly fell deeply in lust. But I saw no signs of a relationship, other than sex, that might lead to tender feelings. Other characters tell us, and them, that they have fallen in love. Theo and Dash also believe that. But where is the evidence? I saw none.
I felt that the long sections of nothing much happening, interspersed with short periods that were crammed full of various things. I had to slow down at those times to try to sift through all of this in an attempt to sort out what is happening. Bringing in characters from previous books added to unneeded dialogue and overall confusion.
If not for promising to review this book, I would have dropped it before halfway. I am disappointed, both with the book itself, and the time I lost on it.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve read all of the previous books in The Duchess Society series and was excited to finally get Theo and Dash’s story, as they’ve been secondary characters all along. What I expected and what I got weren’t in sync, and I ended up feeling a little cheated by Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracy Sumner.
Throughout the series, Dash has been this mysterious figure. Common born, yet always in the company of a couple of dukes and an earl, I couldn’t wait to get more of his backstory.
A couple of tidbits are dropped during the story, but a lot is left to the imagination, which isn’t good. I never felt like I got to know and understand Dash, and therefore, to me, the character development for Dash was quite lacking. That said, I did like him as a character, and there was some growth as he fell in love with Theo and came to terms with their marriage.
I had a harder time liking Theo. She’s a bluestocking and doesn’t really fit into society. And she ultimately doesn’t want to, but since her half-sister is married to a duke, she’s thrown into it. I love that she was super bright and wanted to be something more than just a wife and mother. But again, the author skims out on Theo’s backstory, and most of what I got was the pieces shared in the series’ previous books.
My biggest problem with Theo was her insecurities about her relationship with Dash. I understand he had a pretty roguish past, which she knew about. But she goes completely off the rails after a piece of gossip that reaches her and doesn’t let Dash explain or even go to her friends and family to ask about it. With the group being so close, that doesn’t make sense other than to be the point of conflict in their relationship. It was just too weak and felt out of character. If there had been more explanation from her past that made her feel this way, I might’ve taken it better and not felt so let down.
I liked revisiting all the past characters and mostly enjoyed Theo’s and Dash’s romance. I wish it hadn’t been quite so focused on the bedroom, but there were moments when the romance was developed and wasn’t based on sex. There were a lot of tender moments that just sucked me into the story, and I could look past all my concerns about a lack of real history.
Two Scandals and a Scot had promise but fell a little short for me. I still enjoyed the story, but I needed more history for Theo and Dash to understand their actions and make this a must-read. If you’ve read other books in the series, you’ll probably enjoy this one as well. However, I wouldn’t start the series with this book as there are too many connections to prior characters and events that a new reader might be a little lost.
Two Scandals and a Scot was a really cute romance! I loved the heroine, her determination and pluck!
Theo and Dash have great chemistry together. I love a story where the hero/heroine think they can have a marriage of convenience, and this one was delicious to read and see their story to the contrary of one of those marriages!
The dialogue is sharp, snappy and poignant. I really enjoyed this sweet, adventurous read!
If they don't love me as Dash loves her, I WANT NOTHING, this guy is in love, obsessed and would do anything for her and I LOVE IT, i think it has more love than i thought possible.
Thanks #NetGalley for the advanced copy of #TwoScandalsandaScot by Tracy Sumner in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 2nd book by Ms. Sumner that I have read (the other was also in this series) and I definitely want to continue reading her books. You gotta love when the hero falls hard for the heroine like he does in this book. I wish I had read the others in this series before this one not because it was hard to understand what was going on in this one but I wanted to know the other couples' stories and there is a spoiler about one couple late in the book (not too major as I would probably be able to guess what happens but still a small spoiler). Ms. Sumner's writing style is very clean and easy to read without being boring. My only complaint is that I wish the story would have been longer so I could have seen more of the couple as I really liked them both and wanted more. This book also really sets up the next book in the series which I am very excited about.
Look, I have a problem with my memory. I remember practically nothing from previous books I've read. Why am I telling you this? Well, this book has recurring characters from the previous books in the series, and I don't really care about them anymore. My main focus is this couple, but reading so much about the others takes time away from the Theo and Dash. Another issue I had with this one is that it is moving too slow for me. Probably because of real estate taken up by non-main characters.
As such, this one is a dnf. Since Netgalley requires a rating, I am giving one, however I would prefer not rating as I don't have the full picture. But, I have to emphasize that I have loved previous Sumner books. Xander's probably my favorite in the series.
Another installment to the Duchess Society series!! This time it is Theodosia and Dash's story!!
Theodosia was only helping Dash to write his tell all book of gambling tips. That was to be the end of their time together. But when she is in need of a rescuing hero it comes in the form of the handsome gambling rogue, Dash Campbell himself!!
When scandal erupts, Dash proposes to save Theo's reputation, but Theo has rules of her own to set. The first of which is that this is a marriage where they remain friends, no falling in love allowed!!
As with all in this series, you have a feisty heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, forbidden love, scandal and rakes! What more could you ask for right? The Duchess Society series has all the elements needed for falling in love with these feisty ladies and gents of regency England!! I highly recommend and give 5 stars!.
Thank you to Wolf Publishing and to Net Galley for the free ARC, I am leaving my honest review voluntarily .
Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracey Sumner is a Regency romance. This is the fifth book in the Dutchess Society, all of which I really enjoyed reading. The stories all contain fun characters and interesting plotlines.
Theodosia Astley at her engagement ball met her fiance’s pregnant girlfriend. She took off, jumping into a carriage and demanding the driver to just drive! Even running away Theo didn’t manage to do it quietly. She ended up with Dash Campbell’s carriage, staying in the same room with him and was caught by her family, kissing him passionately. Two scandals with the same Scot led to her marriage to Dash Campbell.
Now how are they supposed to make this work? Or is this just a sham to save Theo's reputation? And Dash - what was Theo thinking? Theo and Dash are sizzling and I found myself smiling throughout the novel. Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracey Sumner is a fun read.
Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracy Sumner. I've been waiting for this! I absolutely love the entire story, it's funny, teary, and love all around.
This is one of my favorite books to read.
Thank You for allowing me the opportunity to read this!

Loved reading the fabulous and fantastic romance story. When Theo's engagement ball is crashed by her fiance's pregnant girlfriend, Theo leaves, asks Dash for help, ends up in a comprising position leading to marriage, but Dash and Theo make a deal to remain friends and not fall in love with each other. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting romance. Can't wait to read the next story in the series by the phenomenal author, Tracy Summer.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review the book Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracy Sumner!
Two Scandals and a Scot is the 5th book in The Duchess Society series by Tracy Sumner, but it can be read as a standalone. It's also the fourth book of hers that I've read. It came out on the 20th of April and is available on Kindle Unlimited. WOLF Publishing published it.
When Theo's fiance's pregnant mistress shows up on the eve of their wedding, she does the only logical thing; run away in her friend's carriage. It's just the friend is the notorious Dash Campbell, who wrote the book on gambling -quite literally. When Dash decides to join her and aid this expedition, they cause quite a scandal and wind up married to save her honor.
Tracy Sumner does not disappoint with one thing. The book is steamy AF, and I loved it that aspect of it. The characters also have a lot of potential
However, while I liked how Tracy Sumner did the friends-to-lovers, arranged marriage, and reformed rakes tropes in this book, someone should have given this a more critical read, especially towards the end with Jasper. We have a lot of him in the book, but it's so weird. Like so incredibly weird that I just wanted to run away. The conflict didn't work; Dash and Theo seem happy, but she's extremely insecure, and I genuinely dislike characters who play stupid games (when Dash was in the doghouse).
While I know I'll read more by Tracy Sumner, I am slightly disappointed with this book. The end with Jasper and the knife just left me meh-ed out by what could have been a much better book.
This is the fifth book in The Duchess Society series by Tracy Sumner and I enjoyed it - maybe not as much as some of the others but it was still a solid read. I have to say, if you haven't read the other books, you may not know who all the characters are and the back story so be warned...you might want to go back and read the other books before picking this one up.
I thought the characters were well done. As I mentioned, these characters are linked to other characters in the prior books and to be honest, I had to dig deep to remember them. Which is perfectly ok...I just wanted to know them better. I do think Sumner did a good job of pulling back to share more about Theodosia and Dash's history so I appreciated that and it definitely fed into their go forward story.
Overall this one was good and kept me turning the pages. Was it my favorite of the series, no but I'll still pick up Sumner's future books as I love her writing and she tells a great story.
Ok - move over Tobias, I think Dash is my newest favorite scoundrel in this series...and that Scottish burr, dang the words just roll out of him.
Dash and Theo are a fun, entertaining couple. She's not nearly the bookish marm you'd expect and he's not the rouge he protrays either. Their story isn't as fully fleshed out as some of the others in this series - not as much cat and mouse chasing, they're thrust into marriage early in the story. Love this series and all the characters!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my reivew.
Theodosia runs out on her engagement party and hops into an empty carriage, only to discover that the carriage belongs to her former student Dash Campbell.
Dash is a Scottish ruffian who spends his life gambling.
Dash has a heart of gold and would do anything to help a lady need especially when said lady helped him write his book.
To preserve Theodosia's reputation, Dash proposes they get married, Theodosia agrees so long as they remain friends but life has other ideas.
I would strongly recommend reading the series before starting this one.
There is a lot of characters and information given in the first two chapters of this book and I can see this being confusing, it will help to read the other books as it will help to understand the relationships between the characters.
This was a delightful love story and I am glad I finally got to read it.
This is a friends to lovers story that is filled with witty banter and chemistry.
I really enjoyed this book and think it is a great addition to the series.
Generaly I have liked this series. This book started off very promising but it went too quickly into resolution. I was glad of all the previous characters I liked being focused on and part of this story!
Thank you NetGalley and Wolf Publishing for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a beautiful, charming and steamy historical romance book! ♥️♥️🔥🔥 This is Dash and Theo's journey from friends to lovers and it is filled with witty banter and sizzling chemistry. The couple will leave you grinning and rooting for them to the very end. I was completely captivated from start to finish!
Although this is the fifth book in "The Duchess Society" series it can easily be read as a stand alone. Regarding their back stories, I would have liked to have learned more about both of them. Overall, it was a delightful and well written story that I highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Theodosia Astley’s engagement ball winds up in tatters, she finds herself unwittingly in need of rescue, and that happens to come from Dash Campbell, a gambler with a good heart beneath his scoundrel’s façade. She only meant to use the closest carriage to run away, it just so happened that the closest carriage was Dash’s very distinctive new model. Dash has always liked Theo ever since she taught him to read and write, so he’s happy enough to propose marriage to salvage her tattered reputation. Theo agrees but stipulates that they remain friends but not fall in love. Of course, that’s very much easier said than done.
I think maybe I had some unrealistically high expectations for this book and this couple especially. Beware of spoilers. I was very much looking forward to seeing Theo and Dash bond over their shared history of coming from the lower classes, and especially to Dash finally revealing his past. Instead, much of this bonding occurred off page or was left to be assumed, or otherwise quickly and vaguely glossed over. I wanted gritty, emotional scenes of these two ripping open their hearts for one another and instead, it was mostly filled with insecurities and assumptions from Theo and cluelessness from Dash as he tried to interpret her mixed signals. I hate the misunderstanding trope anyway and its deployment here was flimsy at best. Dash was almost never out of company with Ollie and Xander, both of whom were witnesses to the scene that caused Theo’s incongruous temper explosion, and yet this was still allowed to lead to a nonsensical separation between Theo and Dash. I wanted to see a mature hashing out of feelings and that wasn’t what we got.
I wanted to see more of these two falling in love despite their best efforts to remain friends, yet much of that occurred off page as well. I was not happy that Theo continued to think the worst of Dash and react with a volatile, rapid anger that didn’t abate with the application of reason and logic. Insecurity is highly relatable, but not in the nonsensical, airheaded way it was presented here. So much of the relationship development occurred off the page that I was left feeling like I really didn’t know Dash and Theo as a couple and wasn’t sure if they had a deep bond beyond their physical connection. There were just tons of missed opportunities here and I began to care less and less about Theo and her excessive pride and the ridiculous, plot stalling test she was putting Dash through and become more interested in the bits of intrigue thrown to us about Jasper Noble’s story. That said, though this book wasn’t everything I’d hoped, that could also be my current book slump doing some of the talking, and I’m very much looking forward to Jasper’s story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We finally got Dash and Theo's story! I liked how this book sets up their friendship with telling about Theo spending time helping Dash with his book a year previous.
They rekindle that "friendship" when Theo runs away from her engagement party when her betrothed Edward's Mistress shows up. Little did she know that she grabbed Dash's carriage as her get away vehicle.
Most of this story is about the romance after Dash and Theo's hurried wedding. They are no doubt full of fire for eachother and come around to more of an emotional connection later on. My favorite was when Dash would go all Scots brogue when really stressed or passionate.
I read this after the previous books. Normally I would say that this could be read as a stand-alone like the previous books, but I think that this book wouldn't feel as impactful without knowing the personalities the secondary characters from the previous books.
Just as the previous books, I love all of the strong and unique characters that aren't typical "society folk" like in other books.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
