Teamwork! Betty the Iditarod Sled Dog by Jack Rotifer would be appropriate for both adults and children although the wording would be better for older children, but it would make a good read aloud for anyone. The story is accurate and interesting and has been well researched.

A Heartwarming Tale of Determination and Teamwork...

A heartwarming children's book that tells the story of Betty, a snow dog who dreams of racing in the famous Iditarod across Alaska. From a young age, Betty is dedicated to her dream, and as she grows up, she becomes strong and calm, happy to be a wheel dog and close to her musher, Catherine. Along with her siblings, Betty learns the importance of doing your best, even if you don't win. After the race, Betty finds a new home with a young girl named Marie and begins a wonderful new life.

Personally, I didn't love this book. I thought that it would have a lot more pictures throughout, but was saddened to find that it was mostly text. I think this is a great educational option for children to read, but I don't think it will keep the audience interested for the longevity of it.
