Iris' life is in the doldrums, she has a mundane job, a flat that she has to share with an annoying woman and the early promise of a happy marriage and a baby is gone. She blames everything on Maddy, the woman her husband claimed ot have left her form. Maddy is all over social media, promoting happy family values with her adorable children and husband. Iris decides that it's time she got revenge on Maddy but is this really what she wants?
I love a Jane Fallon novel for my summer read and, initially, I thought I was going to be disappointed! The first third of the book focuses on Iris and, to be honest, she's not the most sympathetic protagonist that Fallon has come up with. However then the book hits its stride and takes flight. As ever it's a witty story, just this side of believable, and redemptive in the end. Just a summer joy!
A witty and entertaining book but probably not my perfect read simply because I’m not very interested in most of the social media portals often mentioned. The characters are lovely and keep you reading even when you want to shout out loud at some of the antics they engage in.
I read this novel half rooting for the MC and half feeling so frustrated at the situations she was putting herself in, however this did compel me to complete this book really quickly to see how the plot played out. Thank you to NetGalley, Michael Joseph and the author for the chance to review.
So hard to review without spoilers.
A really fascinating look at the dangers of revenge. Social media only shows part of a bigger picture, but seeing someone basking in the sunlight when we are stuck in the shade can drive us to crazy town. Especially if that person is responsible for putting us in the shade.
I enjoyed this, and thank my lucky stars that I’ve managed to avoid the lure of the social media rabbit hole. Cat videos on TikTok is about my limit.
A very enjoyable, yet hard hitting tale of giving out too much information on Social Media. You can never be too sure who someone is. A story of heartbreak and finding yourself. I really enjoyed this book. A definite must read.
Over Sharing is the latest revenge comedy by Jane Fallon. A wicked fun read the novel follows the lives of the two protagonists Iris and Maddy. Their lives had intertwined a few years ago when Maddy was responsible for breaking up Iris’s perfect (well at least Iris thought so) marriage. This ended in Iris being forty years old without the children she had planned to have, renting a room to help pay her bills. Iris had forgotten about the woman who had wronged her all those years ago until … This is where you would have to read Fallons’ book to discover the until, lol.
How would one feel if one had been wronged by another and that other had now carved a successful career for themselves on a lie? Um…This is the premise of the novel by the queen of revenge comedies. The story opens in an ordinary way describing the lifestyle of a working gal. Life is never perfect and Iris’s disposition accepts this. But this is a Jane Fallon novel. Even the most ordinary has a bite to it. Expectancy keeps the pages turning waiting for the twist in this tale. I haven’t got long to wait. After building each of her characters and the scenes she delivers the sting that makes this story so deliciously juicy.
The novel is a tad different from usual novels. Generally, an author telling the story in alternative POV does so from the start. Fallon however chooses not to. Instead she writes in alternative POV towards the second half of the novel. I’ve never come across this before yet it seems to work well with this story. Likely it is Fallons stellar writing that continues to make this a seamless and gripping read. As usual it also has a surprising end. Fallons subtle wit is dispersed throughout the novel further adding to the books lure.
Once again Fallon lives up to her reputation in her signature style. Her fans could not want more. Hands down, this is the best summer/beach read.
I loved the development of the characters as the story progressed and the examination of influencer culture and online trolls - it really is a tale of our times.
Every time Jane Fallon writes a new book I'm filled with eager anticipation, and every time she exceeds expectations; they just keep getting better and better. I can't wait for the next one.
