An enjoyable read with plenty of twists and turns. This was one of those slippers by the fire books where the characters are just that - "characters". with lots of life's problems.
. I enjoyed this book and would recommend.

his mystery/suspense title is published by Joffee Books, a press that publishes many titles in this genre. Their books are generally very reasonably priced. I chose this one because I enjoy stories set in Oxford. It is the fourth in a series that feature both the city of Oxford in lovely detail and Doug Mullen, who solves the cases.
Really bad things happened to Julie after she went out on a date…and she is not the only victim in this story. Something unimaginable happens though when Doug, the private detective noted above, is accused in the case. What happened? Who is responsible?
It helped to know that this is a series so I hoped Doug would be ok. Read this one to find out.
I think that I might have enjoyed this title a bit more if I had read the other entries. Still, an interestng mystery with an interesting character with backstory in Doug, and, of course Oxford.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Joffee Books for this title. All opinions are my own.
*3.5 Stars*

Good read and characters.
Really enjoyed this one but again not realizing it was a series about one of the main characters accused of murder. Kind of twisty, the mental health of one of the officers was an interesting part but she seemed railroaded. Otherwise enjoyable.
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
When I first read the synopsis I was intrigued but when I received the book and realized it is part of series (Book 4) I felt like I was missing something.
I probably need to go back and read the first three because I wanted more of the backstory with Private Detective Doug Mullen.
I will definately be putting the first three on my TBR list and I'm sure it would make better sense.
Otherwise, I enjoyed this book.
I liked The Oxford Murders. It was different from my usual fare. I like Peter's writing style. I liked how he shows the reader the various characters point of view. I also liked how the police were portrayed going about their duties. It felt so real. I loved how the characters felt like they could easily exist in the real world. I really enjoyed Doug, Susan, Becca and Krytyna. Their strength made this story really entertaining.
Doug Mullen is a very well written character and as such I got stuck in. I loved the setting and the loving description of it.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes the procedural aspect but enjoys a slightly new take on the old character tropes.
As an oxford resident it is always nice to read about well known places and as an Oxford resident you don't get much better than Peter Tickler. He plans his crimes meticulously and although not many characters appear the 'who done it' is always a surprise. A quick, easy and enjoyable read.
When private detective Doug Mullen becomes the prime suspect in a series of murders and suspicious disappearances, his already stressful life becomes a rollercoaster.
Clearly set-up, and keen to prove his innocence, Doug's fate left in the hands of love-interest Becca, a troubled police detective, and a determined new recruit to the force.
I really enjoyed the characters and their obvious determination to solve the crimes, which the police clearly were happy to pin on Doug Mullen. A fast paced, gripping read and one which I found hard the put down.
I was given a copy of this book for free by NetGalley for an honest review.
A nice quick read with plenty of action and a couple of twists in the plot. I have read more of this series, but it reads fine as a stand alone . The ploit is fairly intricate, though the different strands come together well as the book progresses. A few of the characters have their own problems and I would have liked slightly more information in the epilogue (about the police team for example), otherwise a good read with logical and believable crimes .

Private Investigator gets into a twisted mess when a woman with whom he had a drink turns up murdered the next day. His life is a mess anyway - ex-policeman and I suspect that I've lost something as this is the first in the series that I've read. But then so many police are apparently in a mess with their private lives; getting to be almost done to death. Bit like senior police officers having serious mental problems but still doing the job, oh there was that too. It was a well-written story, the characters mostly realistic and a good way to spend a few hours. Can't get too enthusiastic I'm afraid. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy
This is the first book that I have read by Peter Tickler and will definitely read more! This book was excellent and kept me enthralled until the final pages. It features Private Detective Doug Mullen in a novel set in Oxford and begins with the death of a young woman.
A gripping thriller that had me hooked from this start. This was a ride and I loved every second of it.
This thriller had alot of action and great plot twists that I didntbsee coming. This is the fourth book in the series and they never fail to keep me highly entertained and hooked to the story.
I just reviewed THE OXFORD MURDERS by PETER TICKLER. #THEOXFORDMURDERS #NetGalley

The red herrings in this novel make it almost impossible to discern the ending. Murder and mayhem are the basis of this story, written by a talented author. Although this is fiction, it often reads like nonfiction and would make a great series on television. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. Try to guess the ending. Try to solve the puzzle.
A quick and easy read. I haven't read the previous books but will be reading them now as this latest installment really did get me hooked and I can't wait to read more about the characters. I loved the premise, it's simple and effective. There were a couple of twists and turns and I really just have no complaints. A really strong murder mystery that delivers exactly what it promises
Decided to try this ARC as the description seemed exciting. Not as gripping or as many twists as advertised, but the story was good. I like the characters overall, but felt a lack of depth. This is probably because the book is fairly short. Any character building felt like blurbs of information about their past quickly thrown in which only gave a glimpse of their makeup. (There may be some missing pieces as I have not read the prior 3 in this series). The story felt rushed throughout up until the ending which was abrupt and felt incomplete. As such, my rating for story quality is 3/5, but ultimately I enjoyed reading it and wanted to finish to see if my suspicions were accurate. So, overall the 4/5 rating stands.
Doug is a sympathetic character and when he encounters a troubled woman at the cinema he talks to her and offers assistance but she is reluctant to accept help from a stranger. Unfortunately, whilst walking his dog he finds her dead the next day and becomes prime suspect of her murder.
I wish that I had read previous novels in this series as I found the characters confusing to start with but I soon became engrossed and found it an enjoyable story.
The Oxford Murders by Peter Tickler
I picked this one for 2 reasons. One is that I was preapproved at Netgalley so I thank both Netgalley (https://www.netgalley.com) and Joffe books (https://joffebooks.com/) for the chance to read this before publication. The second is I was a fan of Colin Dexter’s novels which were also set in Oxford. As it turned out this was very different from Colin Dexter’s novels but it was a great read.
The book is “The Oxford Murders” by Peter Tickler. It will be published May 2.
It is the fourth in the Doug Mullen series so I missed out on a bit of background but there was certainly enough to get me into this story. Doug is working as a PI. He is current living with Becca and is sleeping in the couch. They are friends and Becca suspects Doug would like to take things a bit further but she is not ready for that.
Doug meets a young woman at the movies and offer to buy her a drink. She refuses but turns up dead later that night. As the last known to have seen her alive, Doug is immediate a person of interest and perhaps a suspect. A few days later, he meets a potential client in a pub. And she seems to be another murder victim where Doug is again the last known person to see her alive.
Murder, mayhem, madness, twists, and turns make for a very interesting story. It is well told by Peter Tickler. At times I wished I was more aware of some character’s backstories from earlier books in the series. But that did not detract from enjoyment of this book. In fact, I have found that sometimes it is fun to jump into a later book in a series and then read earlier book and see how the characters developed.
Doug Mullen #4
Doug meets a young woman in the foyer of a cinema in East Oxford and offers to buy her a drink. The next morning the woman's mutilated body is found in a ditch. And Doug is arrested on suspicion of murder. But with no evidence to hold him, Doug is released from Crawley Road police station. Later that week, Doug heads out to meet a new client. But as he's buying her a drink at the bar, she disappears, leaving a book on the vacant seat. First woman he meets ends up dead in a ditch, The second woman he meets disappears. One might be bad luck, but two is a police investigation.
With three women now dead, their murders noticeably different to each other, The only link between them is PI Doug Mullen. He had met all the women, and they are now dead. Someone is setting Doug up. But who? And what motive do they have behind it all? The characters are well rounded, and I love Susan Holden. you can't help but laugh even though her mental health is progressively getting worse. I also liked Krystyna, the young Polish police officer. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, so I took odd half a star for that reason.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks and the author #PeterTickler for my ARC of #TheOxfordMurders in exchange for an honest review.
