Many thanks to Net Galley and HQ for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
Nothing better than curling up on couch with Adele Parks new book.
I had read ‘Both of You’ to which this book is a sequel, but ithis can be read as a stand-alone
This was an addictive read. A psychological thriller with a lot of mystery and suspense, the tension builds as the story unfolds. Adele Parks draws her readers in during the first few pages the story is very clever with multiple layers.
Kylie Gillingham is missing, presumed dead, the husband is the prime suspect - story over, oh no, just beginning, which husband is the suspect? Kylie is a bigamist, the police are aware she was held captive, but what happened to her next and where is her body?
Mark is husband number one with whom she has two stepsons. Dan is husband number two, he is rich and she lives an extravagant lifestyle when with him, she was living two very separate lives. Then there is Kylie’s best friend Fiona, she knows and is very familiar with both husbands, she has even moved in with Mark, following her friends disappearance, to help look after his two boys.
The story includes love, marriage, relationships, suspicion lies, and betrayal and lots of dramatic twists.
Congratulations to this author on yet another fabulous page turner.
Wow, wow, wow…..just wow!
I loved both of you and so was very excited to find a sequel. That said I believe this book can easily be read as a stand-alone novel.
Fast paced, this book will raise your anxiety levels and have your heart pounding! Told from multiple perspectives the story unfolds of what happened to Kylie/Kai/Leigh. How do the men in her lives cope with her abduction/disappearance/death.
Absolutely brilliant, the most gripping read yet.
I hadn’t realised this was a sequel until I had finished the book but it works well as a stand alone.
I really enjoyed the unusual plot and the characters, whilst not all likeable, were interesting. A riveting read. Now I need to read the previous book.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for my copy of Just Between Us by Adele Parks.
A stunning complicated story. I had know idea it was a sequel and it really made no difference.
If I had known there was an earlier book I would definitely have read that first.
An enthralling read.
Breathtaking tension throughout
Moved by her fans‘ massive public demand, Adele Parks wrote this sequel to her bestseller ‚Both of You‘, the story about a sensational female bigamist, which had ended in a cliff hanger. Cleverly plotted, it also works perfectly as a standalone read, full of twists and red herrings, this is guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat throughout and deals with the aftermath of the bigamy for the friends and families involved.
This is the sequel to Both of us and while it can be read as a stand alone but makes better sense if you have read them in order. Kylie Gilllingham is missing g but has been found dead out as a bigamist. She is married to Mark and devoted stepmum to his boys, Oli and Seb. At the same time she is wife to successful businessman, Daan. We know that she was kidnapped and held captive and may be dead. The police think that Daan is her killer but we know that her jealous best friend Fiona, pushed her offa cliff.
Slow to start as we play catch (in case you haven't read Both of you); the scene is set as both men have lost their wife and are beginning to think that she may be dead. Only Seb, Mark's youngest son, believes that she is alive.
Fiona has moved into Mark's house to help with the boys.
But who is Stacie?
Once it got going, I loved how this this story drew the loose threads from Both of you together.
I struggled with Both Of You and again with Just Between Us. Usually Adele's books have me gripped from the start but sadly these two didn't work for me, but I'm sure I am in the minority.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC and post an honest opinion
As always I enjoy reading work from Adele Parks. A great psychological thriller. It took me a little while to realise it was a sequel to Both of You.
The plot was excellent with many surprises which kept me guessing throughout - I did realise who the culprit was part of the way through the story. However, the twists within it still had me questioning my thinking and it could possibly be someone else!
A book I could race through, devour and enjoy reading.
I am usually a fan of Adele Parks books but this is the second one that I just couldn't get into, the first being the previous one Both Of You which I also struggled with.
I’m sure plenty of readers will enjoy it but it’s not for me.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to receive an early copy.
The disappearance of Kylie Gillingham caused a stir, not just because a young woman is missing, but because it has been revealed that she was a bigamist. The suspicion always falls on the husband first, but in this case there are two to choose from. There's Mark, left with two boys who adored their stepmother & Daan- a wealthy man & there is evidence that Kylie was held in the apartment building where they lived, albeit on a different floor. Covid makes investigation difficult. Kylie's best friend moves in with Mark & the boys & Daan conducts his police interviews from his home in the Netherlands. Meanwhile in Lyme Regis, Stacie struggles with her failed memory as her loving father nurses her back to health from brain cancer- where does she fit in?
I am not alone in finding out that this was a sequel so it took a long time before I actually got past the rather slow & somewhat confusing beginning & began to connect with the characters. I found the detective rather a nonentity, Daan a rich entitled person, Mark a bit of a wet blanket and Fiona deeply suspicious. Oly & Seb were the best of the bunch. As for Stacie & her dad- I didn't know what they had to do with anything. I had thoughts of giving up on this quite a few times, but eventually the pace seemed to pick up & I enjoyed the rest of the tale. However a 3.5 rounded down to a 3 was the best grade I could bring myself to give. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
a psychological thriller that will have you on tenterhooks.... but i have to admit i wasnt a fan of this book as i am not a big psychological fan
others will love this book
Another very enjoyable thriller from Ms Parks. Mistress of the page turner, she hooked me in very quickly and I was keen to know what happened to all the very human, flawed characters. I read and enjoyed it, as a standalone book and was surprised to find it was actually a sequel to "both of you" which I read a couple of years ago and, I have to admit, was my least favourite of her books so had obviously forgotten the main plot twists!
Thank you to netgalley and HQ for an advance copy of this book
I do enjoy Adele Parks' books and I was so excited to read this one. It is a bit far fetched, but that aside it is a very gripping story.
Kylie Gillingham is missing and her husbands are both in the frame for her murder - husbands because since she disappeared it has been revealed that Kylie is a bigamist. By one of her husbands she has 2 step children, and the other none, so the majority of the suspicion resides with the childless man.
Meanwhile, Stacie is being looked after by her devoted father after brain cancer surgery, but she is having difficulty remembering anything much about her life before her illness in Paris.
When their two worlds collide there are some explosive revelations which could be fatal.
A fun book if you suspend belief.
I stumbled upon this book on NetGalley, having enjoyed a previous work by Adele Parks. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that this book was a sequel, which led to a rather perplexing start. The story begins with everyone already resigned to the disappearance of Kylie, presumed dead—a continuation from the previous book. This context only became clear about halfway through the narrative. Had I known this beforehand, I might have appreciated the book more.
The frustration lies in the absence of clear labelling. Nowhere on Amazon or NetGalley was it indicated that this was a follow-up. The publisher's and author's choice not to make this information explicit felt deceiving, causing unnecessary confusion for readers like me. With the proper context, I would have likely sung praises for the book. Alas, my lack of prior knowledge tinges on my review with disappointment.
Looking past this, the book itself is a decent read. It maintains suspense, and I found the chapters centred around 'Stacie' particularly engaging. The ending tied things up nicely, and it's evident that some mysteries were dependent on the first book for explanation—especially Kylie's double life. Therefore, I do recommend the book, but with a significant caveat: read the preceding book before diving into this one.
The pace in Just Between Us was so fast paced I read it in one sitting.
This is a sequel to Both of You so I'd recommend you read that book first.
When Kylie is reported missing, the police soon discover that she has been living two completely different lives as a bigamist.
She has two boys in one life and the other living an extravagant lifestyle.
When the lives of her and Stacie's worlds collide there is only one outcome. And it doesn't end well!
There is so much suspense and thrills in this book it was very hard to put it down.
I really like Adele Parks's writing. She definitely knows how to write a page-turner and this book is no exception. However, there were some blips in the pacing at times. It started off with a bang, but then lacked momentum until about 50% of the way through when there was a big plot twist! Then back to a bit of a lull again, before it picked up towards the end. It was very up and down.
I think the book would have benefitted from being 100 pages or so shorter.
I didn't really like any of the characters, and I think this had an impact on my overall enjoyment. I wasn't really routing for anyone. However, I was still intrigued as to what happened to our 'missing person'
I was disappointed with the ending, as I feel it was a lot of set-up but the ending ended really suddenly, and without clearing up all of the questions I had.
Overall it was a decent read, but I have preferred Adele Parks other books.
I'm glad a sequel was written and we find out what happens to Kylie. There's a lot to like about this book, but I did find it slow at times. We were in the various characters heads a lot, too much I thought. I also thought what happened to Kylie, in this story not the previous one, far fetched. Really? That's a lot happening to one poor woman. All in all though, I enjoyed this book. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh I couldn't stop reading this one! Very cleverly written. I kept thinking I wanted to read more of the back story of how Kylie got into this situation while thinking the names sounded familiar. When I read the epilogue I realised why they were familiar - this is a sequel to Both of Us which I had already read! Skimmed back over this one just to refresh my memory and although this is a standalone, I would recommend reading Both of Us first.
I practically inhaled Just Between Us; it was just that addictive! It's a follow on to Both of Us, but you don't need to have read that first, the salient details are all explained.
Kylie Gillingham is a bigamist; living in domesticity married to Mark and step mum to Seb and Oli, but also married to high flyer Daan.
Kylie (or Kai and Leigh as she is known by her husbands) has gone missing, and soon Daan is arrested for her murder, even though no body has been found and the evidence is fairly circumstantial.
The narrative is told from the viewpoint of multiple characters, including Daan, Kylie's best friend Fiona and we also meet Stacie. Stacie is recovering from a brain tumour, and being cared for by her father, as she has no memories since her operation.
This about turn in the characters is one of the great points of the book, and makes you start questioning everything! Who is Stacie and how is she connected to Kylie and her two lives? There are also some quality cliffhangers that leave you wanting more, especially when you jump onto the next character's narrative.
I thoroughly enjoyed Just Between Us and will be recommending it to everyone, whether they have read the prequel or not.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
This book is a sequel and follows on from where Both of You ended.
Kylie, who is a bigamist is nowhere to be found, and everything that has been discovered so far, means that either of her two husbands has killed her.
The story is set in the times of Covid, and the chapters give different viewpoints for husband Daan, the other husband Mark, and Fiona, Kylie’s best friend, who links to them all, and is now living in Mark’s house in Lockdown.
So, which one has killed Kylie, and who isn’t telling the truth? The story has you hooked, with many lies, secrets and twists.
Then there’s the story of Stacie, she’s thirty seven and is recovering from her treatment to cancer, living with her father on a secluded coastline. Following the treatment, she doesn’t have any past memory of her life before it, but slowly, she begins to get little insights, and eager to find out who she is.
Adele has written a book which is hard to put down.
I highly recommend this book.
