I power read this book straight through. Is the plot original? No. Did it make me feel great after reading it? YES.
The book follows 3 characters in a SMALL Scottish village and their individual love lives. The storyline is kicked off by the arrival of Holly, a vet trying to escape her problems and get through the next year. Enter Greg, into her life, literally when he lets himself into her rental in the middle of the night. Add a few hairy coos and antics ensue.
It was refreshing to see not only multiple romantic stories in a novel, but also a queer love story as well as we watch Paolo deal with being the only queer person (so he thinks) for miles around.
Chloe has spent her whole life failing to tell the man she has feelings for that she's more than just Chloe from the vet.
Did this novel revolutionize the romance genre as we know it? Certainly not, but sometimes you're looking for a feel good romantic story with just a hint of spice to it and on that front Let's Just Be Friends certainly delivers. It's cozy, it's light and you will feel better after giving it a read. Put it on your list to pair with a cup of tea and blanket.
I received this e-book thanks to NetGalley for my honest review! Check it out June 29, 2023!
I really liked this book, it was sweet and fun.
i didnt really know what to expect going in and i was a bit thrown off by the trio of storylines at first. i got over it quickly and it didnt affect my enjoyment of the story.
at points i wanted to shake all three of them though!!
loved the village of eastercraig, wolfie!! and even hugh.
I didn't love the writing style and found it to be jarring. I didn't finish but feel like there will be many readers who love this plot.
Going into this story, I did not expect to read three different POVs.
Not only do you have Holly, who's seemingly the main character, but you also have her two coworkers POVs. It was a lot. All three of them fall into relationships, and the story becomes a bit redundant. Especially when they all decide to finally make a move in their relationships after one single event.
I feel like this book would've been better if it were focused on a singular couple instead of three. Regardless, it was sweet to read about a small town where everyone is protective over each other and equally nosey.
This was a fun and entertaining book. Even though the plot was just OK, I believe the author really pulled of the small Scottish town vibes. I almost packed my bags to travel there and get to know that scenery.
Go for it if you like friends to lovers, small town, scottish vibes and animals.
This is just the book I needed- full of fun characters and situations, with a bit of light angst, nothing too involved. It will make a great summer read.
There is enough Scottish vocabulary to add realism, but not so much that an American reader is left puzzled. The Scottish landscape described makes me want to visit.
This is a first novel for the author. I would like to have more polished point of view- the multiple pov’s were a little jarring although they added welcome content. I think there was plenty of character backstory, but perhaps not enough development. At the end of the book, I’m satisfied with the conclusion, but I can’t explain how anyone except Chloe changed and grew as a character. Yes, the main character decided to take a chance on romance and she liked the town, but that’s not really growth. This could have been written in a way that helped her to realize things about herself, but it didn’t really.
I look forward to reading more from this author. The entire book held my interest. This author has the touch! Her next books will hopefully be even better!
This was the cutest "feel-good" romance set in the Scotland. Small town, countryside, animals and romance. This was such a quick read too! Short Chapters which made you want to get that next chapter in and continue reading!
The characters were cute, funny at times and a lovely pick me up book. By the end of the book, I was hoping for the best and the book didn't disappoint. Cute, Fun & thrilling!
Thank you @netgalley and publishers for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I liked the setting of the cute Scottish town. The characters were annoying and unlikeable though and I'm not a fan of books that switch through so many different POVs. It makes it hard to stay interested in the story because it bounces around so much. The story was also a bit predictable. But I appreciate the opportunity to read and review.
Holly Anderson thought she'd struck the jackpot with a great placement with a large modern veterinary practice in Berkshire, but then there was a problem and instead she's been sent to Eastercraig, a small fishing village in the Scottish Highlands, for a year to assist a bad-tempered old vet in his run-down practice. Holly was kicked in the head by a cow when she was training and has avoided large animal veterinary work ever since - how will she cope when half her practice will be farms?
Holly is just settling down on her first night in the beautiful renovated cottage which has been rented for her, having a luxurious bath, when she hears an intruder in the house. Her intruder turns out to be local man Greg Dunbar, slightly the worse for wear. Greg knows the cottage's owner and has frequently been allowed to stay overnight when tipsy, or visiting his brother who runs the family farm.
Holly can hardly believe the friendliness of the locals, the practice's veterinary nurse and receptionist both befriend her and take her to the pub on her first night, if only the chief vet Hugh were half as friendly, it seems like nothing she can do is right in his eyes.
Greg and Holly strike up a friendship, meeting every so often when Greg comes back to see his mother, although he and his brother Angus have had a falling-out and aren't on speaking terms. But with Greg's legal practice in Aberdeen and Holly only in Eastercraig for 12 months there doesn't seem to be time for anything more ...
I liked this, it was easy-going, fairly predictable, but a lovely sweet romance, perfect beach reading or even sitting by the fire with a mug of coffee and a packet of biscuits.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I struggled with this book. I didn’t particularly like any of the three main characters and they were all a little pathetic and immature.
The switching of POV wasn’t smooth and meant that none of these characters really got their story, there were gaps and inconsistencies for their plot lines which all seemed to reinforce my dislike for them.
I received this book as an ARC for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was a perfect mix of fluffy and deep. I really liked the chemistry between the two love interests and I highly recommend for this time of the year.
Mostly enjoyed this one. All three friends were a bit immature, whiny, and childish. Pretty surprising for adults. The ending was a bit predictable and stiff. I’m willing to try the other books in this series.
A really cute cosy town in Scotland that you really feel that you are in because the author uses all the dialogue ect you might except to hear with all the nuances you can only find in Scotland. Don't worry there's a glossary if you need it at the back of the book. Funny, joyous and utterly fun.
As a Scottish person myself, I enjoyed the correct use of some of the vernicular and terminology (don't worry, there's a glossary at the back if you need!).
I loved the cute cosy feel of the town, I could easily picture it being somewhere in Scotland away from the hussle and bustle.
I like the multiple POVs and the different intertwining storyline, and the characters are all interesting in their own unique ways.
And bonus points for the adorable animals!
I felt the story was missing something slightly, just that last spark seemed not quite there. But overall. Very enjoyable. Cute and cosy - perfect for a rainy day read
Thanks Netgalley for the ARC. The cover was just too cute. That's what drew me in. The book overall was OK. Too many POV's - which I did get confused along the way. Loved the small town setting but too many characters to keep track of. If the book focused on one couple it would've been a 5 star for me.
I so enjoyed the majority of this book, and the multiple storylines, but the ending felt so abrupt. The author built some great and interesting characters, and I was so invested in each of them. Where I'm having trouble is that the end felt so quick and glossed over. An epilogue would really help, but frankly a little more of the "happy times" at the end, would have made all the difference for me.
As one other quick note, I really enjoyed the story, but some of the vocabulary, could use a very brief explanation so all readers can understand without a Google search.
All in all, I enjoyed the plot and the characters, just give me a bit more on the ending!
I really enjoyed this. I absolutely adored Holly and Greg!! This was such a feel good Romance set in the Scottish Highlands. Absolutely perfect for laying out in the sun with.

I loved this book, it warmed my heart. The book follow Holly, Chloe and Paolo who works at vet clinic. They are a charismatic and cutes, that is my favorite point of the book. The plot develop is slow but the romance and the family conflict are very realistic. It's a light reading.
Definitebly I'll follow Katy Turner.
Thank you for allowing me to read this ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I absolutely LOVED this book! I’m a sucker for small town romances, especially set in Scotland, and this just absolutely had everything I was looking for!
For starters, I really liked all the characters, especially the main trio! I was equally invested in all three romance plots which I think is quite difficult to pull off. The banter between them didn’t feel cringey which I sometimes find in romances, it felt very lived in and genuine.
While the transitions between the POV’s was quite natural, personally I would have liked a bit more structure or clarity, either the chapter title would specify or there would be a clear change in style to indicate this.
But overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the first page and finished it in two days!!!
Let’s just be friends by Katy Turner 4⭐️
i really liked the multiple perspectives because it give me a clue to like see the different characters and what they thought however it would have been useful to have a few more pages because the plot seemes kind of rushed at the end. we didn't see major things happen that had been built up to (e.g. angus and chloe finally going out). so while the multiple perspectives was useful, i think the plot and the development of the characters were downgraded as a result.
the non-romantic relationships in the novel were fun to see e.g. the friendships between paolo, holly and chloe, the fractured sibling bond between angus and greg, the boss-employee dynamic between hugh and holly. i think that hugh and holly's relationship needed a bit more developement because ratio of the nice moments between them and the not nice moments were drastically skewed.
what went well: multiple perspectives giving understanding, the non-romantic relationsips
even better if: developement!!!!!!! the plot, characters, everything needed just a bit more.
