Four and a half stars.

I absolutely loved Wrong Place Wrong Time when I read it last year. I honestly read it and then boom a section would end, the story would change and I would say (Out loud) WTAF? I didn't see any of it coming and I was blown away by the way such a bizarre concept could create such a tense mystery. So long story short, when I saw this available as an ARC I requested it immediately.

Julia is a dedicated DCI. Her only regret is that an incident that happened a year ago with her daughter prevented her from investigating the disappearance of a young woman, Sadie, who was never found.

Now a second young woman has disappeared a year later and Julia vows to do everything in her power to find her, dead or alive. But there are lots of oddities about Olivia's death, not least that she was seen entering a dead-end alleyway and never left. Olivia had recently changed her phone, her job, and moved into a new flatshare - are any of these things connected to her disappearance? Even her social media posts seem off.

Then a masked man breaks into Julia's car and tells her he has evidence of what happened a year ago, evidence that would end Julia's career and put her daughter in prison. He will expose Julia unless she plants evidence to incriminate a man and get him arrested for Olivia's murder.

Now Julia has to go against all her instincts in order to protect her daughter, while still searching for Olivia.

This was plenty twisty and turny, although I don't think it quite reaches the heights of the previous novel, also I sort of guessed part of it, although I also got it wrong - so maybe the truth is that I spotted that something might be important and part of the mystery.

Anyway, loved it, read it in a single day and couldn't put it down.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I’ve enjoyed Gillian McAllister’s books in the past so started Just Another Missing Person with high expectations. Overall I appreciated the skill of the storytelling and the mid book twist but have to knock a star off for two main bugbears. The first was that it was reinforced so many times about what a great and honest policewoman and mother Julie was, but actually she wasn’t because at the most crucial point of her and her daughter’s encounter with a mugger she chose the corrupt path (admittedly if she hadn’t, then this wouldn’t be the book it is) but the sanctimonious breast bashing got on my nerves. The second issue that contributed to a star being deducted was that it was never explained how the mugger knew who she was. Having said all that it was still a good, story with some unforseeable twists.

If you’ve read Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister then you will know what to expect from this twisty thriller.

Three girls have gone missing, or have they? The boyfriend is an obvious suspect, or is he? The police are there to be trusted, or are they?

McAllister explores the ephemeral world of modern identity, exploring how technology can lull us into a false sense of security and how what we believe to be true may not be the case.

Just like Wrong Place, Wrong Time the central character is a mother desperate to support her child, no matter what - and she’s willing to put everything she stands for at stake to keep her daughter safe.

I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC from Netgalley and it didn’t disappoint!

This was definitely a slow burn for me, I took a while to warm up to the characters but when I did I enjoyed it

Thank you for my copy of this book to read and review.

The concept of this book really stood out to me. I couldn’t wait to read it and find out how it played out.

I thought it was an original storyline and it kept my attention all the way through.

Maybe not quite as gripping as some of her previous books but a really enjoyable story.

Gillian McAllister is the queen of thriller fiction but this book didn’t quite live up to her previous writings, it was quite chaotic which meant the twists didn’t seem as thrilling as usual

This is another gripping and compelling read from Gillian McAllister, with lots of twists and hold your breath moments, as I expect from this author. Having read all her previous books I was really looking forward to this next journey in her writing.

Julia is the head detective leading the case on a missing girl who entered an alleyway with a dead end never to be seen again. Julia has hers hands full with this case as secrets galore start to unravel and Julia finds herself having to break the law for someone in her close family circle concerning this case. The story is told manly from Julia's perspective with other characters popping in to have their say.

I really enjoyed this engrossing story and while it was a little slow to start the twists and the complexness of the story made up for that as the tension built. The imagination of this author continues to excite me with every book she writes and I look forward to more of her future .

Just Another Belter From McAllister!
McAllister's last book Wrong Place Wrong Time is one of the best thrillers I have ever read, so I admittedly went in with high expectations.
I saved this book for the week I was having surgery, and I'm so glad I had because it worked wonders for my concentration and anxiety!
The drama is literally non-stop and you won't be able to stop this book once you open it. The twist in this one will blow your mind. Completely inspired. To even think of this, and then execute it so brilliantly... I still find myself thinking about it all these weeks later.
Superb.

Well, she's done it again. But was there really any doubt about that?

Whenever I read a book like this, I sit there and try to figure out how I could write one like this, but I wouldn't know where to start. To know the ending, the how's and whatfores, but to be able to hide it convincingly and realistically...I'm in awe of anyone who can manage that, and she does with great aplomb (an underused word in my opinion). I also want to know if whodunnits are lost on her now - when reading one, can she figure it out beforehand because she has that mindset?

I like that it's mainly set over a few days - there are skips in time, but for probably about 95% of the book, it's just in those few days. It adds to the chaoticness and stress and panic that happens when a crime is committed or someone goes missing. Everything happens so fast, and yet time feels like it's going so slow, and everyone sits and holds their breath.

Gillian has done an amalgamation of linear narrative post-disappearance from Julia's POV, some flashbacks, linear narrative from other characters affected, plus text messages, Twitter posts, Instagram posts, emails - it adds to the chaos of a case like this, so many things a police officer has to root through, how things could be overlooked, and how seemingly innocent these things are that could have a darker undertone.

We all know how much I only like to read uplifting books in bed, but once I'd start this, even bedtime wasn't getting in the way. I was so absorbed that I was thinking about it when I wasn't even reading, it just felt so real and tangible, like it was really happening.

I like that it's not solely about Olivia's disappearance. I won't spoil it, obviously, but it isn't the only story going on. There's layers upon layers in this book, affecting Julia predominately, but also some of the secondary characters. It gives it a sense of realism about it. Not the plot content themselves as such, but the fact that very rarely do we get the time in our professional lives to just focus on one thing. It's chaotic and mad and busy, and this book found that balance.

Julia was an interesting character. Clearly good at her job, and clearly passionate about her job, but she is constantly fighting this battle between her job and her family. Each as equally important for different reasons. Would that dilemma have happened if it was a male officer, or would we assume their wife would be looking after the family? I don't know. It's a question, but now necessarily a question we need to look at now. Julia is a fabulous character and well-written, fighting with her - and others - demons. And this isn't the first Gillian character to be like this. I think her ability to create complex characters in complex situations, but make them so well-rounded, and realistic and likeable is second to none.

Some of the quotes on the cover talk about how amazing the twists are. But I could never have guessed them. It is so twisty and turny already that it really springs out at you, which is the perfect way to format a twist. Hidden, unseen, silent, and then all of a sudden, very loud.

I've seen a few early reviews that say they felt the ending was slightly rushed, and I had a think about that, but I can't say I agree. I can understand where people are coming from and value other people's opinions on it, but I didn't think there was anything else that could be there. If she'd stretched it out, I feel it would have read as unimportant filler. We got what we needed and what we wanted, and it was a satisfying conclusion in my books.

The only negative for me is that I felt it was over too quickly. The pacing was fabulous, the twists great, characters exciting, plot intriguing - but I wanted more. I could have kept reading it forever. I almost want to read it again, knowing what I know now about it, to see if the reading of it changes in any way.

Every so often you come across a book that makes you glad you're a book reviewer, so it gives you the excuse to shout very loud about it. This is one of those books. I will shout it at anyone who happens to look my way.

"Julia knew from the way Genevieve rushed toward her that something was wrong."

I really enjoyed this author's previous work so I was disappointed that this one didn't grip me so much. In fairness, me reading Just Another Missing Person coincided with a particularly busy period in my life, so my reading time was very disjointed and I feel this probably had an effect on my enjoyment.

Julia is a dedicated member of the police force, through and hardworking until now. She is hiding something, and someone knows about it. Julia is investigating the curious disappearance of a young woman and someone wants her to frame an innocent man. She can protect her precious daughter or she can investigate the missing young lady, she can't do both.

I have a love hate relationship with crime fiction, I often guess what is coming early on and I like to be surprised. One element of this book I guessed fairly early on but the other was a total shock.

I felt this book wasn't as cohesive as it could have been but I can't claim to have disliked it. I was curious about the outcome, curious enough to finish the book, but I am not sure I can claim to care about it.

Would I encourage people to read this book, maybe. Would I read it again? No.

Gillian McAllister does it again!
I was hooked from the first page and no matter how hard I tried to solve Olivia’s disappearance, I just couldn’t work it out.
Great plot, great characters…addictive read.
Loved it!

Thank you for this copy to read and review

Many thanks to the publisher for the advance e-copy of Just Another Missing Person, which I raced through in a single day because it simply wasn’t possible to put this book down. I so enjoyed every twist and turn of the story…and wow, the hugest twist of all was a wild one! Intriguing characters, seemingly impossible situations and ingenious solutions provide a gripping read, and living so close to Portishead myself made it especially interesting.
Yet another brilliant novel by Gillian McAllister - five stars all the way.

Wow this another twisty and wonderfully crafted thriller from the super talented Gillian McAllister who never fails to surprise me. I have to admit it did take me a little time to get into this latest book I had a bit of a hard time in connecting to some of the characters especially the main one DCI Julia Day but from about halfway through the story just took off.
The book is told mainly from the perspective of Julia with inserts from other characters and for me that worked well. The story developed slowly and was not at all what I was expecting and some of the twists just threw me with the usual I didn’t see that coming but I think that is what we have come to expect from this author. I’m not going to say more about the plot except that prepare to be shocked because this is damned good stuff!
My thanks to NetGalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This story had an interesting plot. I enjoyed the breadcrumbs however I was disappointed that, as the reader, we did not witness the final showdown. The major plot twist is revealed and we start to see the aftermath and then it suddenly time jumps. I kind of felt cheated by this.

The writing style is a little difficult to get into and not very palatable. It comes across as disjointed sometimes and choppy. It switches from third person to second person depending on the perspective and for me, this took a while to get used to. I understand why it was done and makes for a clever plot device but it took me out of the story more times than most. Also Genevieve's dialogue felt off at times especially her dialogue with her mom. It was not very believable.

Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister
I give this book 4.25 stars

OLIVIA, 22 years old.
Last seen on CCTV, entering a dead-end alley.
Julia is the detective heading up the case, but has no idea how close to home it's going to get.
Because there's a man out there. And his weapon is a secret. Her worst one.
He tells her that her family's safety depends on her doing one thing:
What would you do?

This authors ability to create complex characters and clever storytelling never disappoints. I love a moral dilemma and the gray areas between and this focuses on 3 parent/child relationships with subplots that keep you engaged and guessing as there’s lots to work out and piece together. It starts out slowly but then the pace along with the thrills and suspense ramp up and twists start coming. This had a lot to live up to after the authors previous book, did it succeed expectations…….you will just have to read it and see!
With thanks to Netgalley,Gillian McAllister and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House, for my chance to read and review this book.

I do not know where to start. I have always been a massive fan of Gillian Mcallister's writing and after reading her previous novel in a day, I didn't know how she was going to top it.
Untill I started Just another missing person. I was hooked immediately, just how does someone walk into a dead end alley and never be seen again. Gillian's writing style and use of multiple points of view ensures that you're hooked. Empathising with certain characters and the shock as the twists keep coming.

This book was once again read in under 24 hours because I was simply unable to put it down. Thank you netGalley and the publishers for my ARC copy in return for this review.

This book captivated me throughout. So many twists and turns with a cast of characters to follow and try to understand.
I found myself unable to predict how this would end. Everytime I thought I figured it out a new twist or reveal would happen. Keeping me on the edge of my seat.
While the second half of this book is different and we start to be given the truth I still found myself surprised by the truth.
The only 'let down" was the ending itself. With so much build up and twists having the ending be like it is felt underwhelming.
Especially with how things end for Julia.

Olivia is reported missing and was last seen on CCTV entering an alleyway which was a dead end.
Some of the plot was unbelievable in places and difficult to understand, definitely not for me.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC

"Thriller" is a genre that promises to keep readers on the edge of their seats, and this definitely delivers. From the very first page, the tension is palpable, and the plot twists and turns in unexpected ways, making it difficult to put the book down. The characters are well-developed and the author does an excellent job of keeping the reader guessing as to who can be trusted and who is hiding something. The pacing is spot-on, with just the right amount of action and suspense to keep the reader engaged. The writing style is gripping and evocative, making it easy to visualise the scenes and feel the emotions of the characters. The author's attention to detail and ability to create a believable world adds to the overall experience of the book. Overall, this is an excellent example of the thriller genre. It's a page-turner that will keep readers guessing until the very end and is sure to satisfy fans of the genre. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good suspenseful read.

The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
