Gillian MaCallisters new novel follows detective Julia who is currently investigating an impossible missing persons case, a woman named Emily who vanished into thin air and hasn’t been seen since, with the pressure of the case mounting up, the last thing she expects is for a man to come forward and threaten her, not with a weapon but with a secret, one that Julia has kept from everyone she knows, her worst secret imaginable, to keep her family safe she must frame an innocent person for the disappearance of Emily.
I’d seen a lot of hype about this book online so I picked it up to read on my flight to Spain last month, on the journey over I read the first 40% and was absolutely immersed into it, the plot line had goosebumps all over my body and I was desperate to know what happened.
Then enters my reading slump, which for me slightly killed my enthusiasm towards this book, I was picking it up whenever I felt like reading (which wasn’t often) so I was finding it hard to remember characters etc which was making me not want to read further but once my slump left the building, I really sat down and gave this my full attention, my overall thoughts were that the book is excellently written, it is a brilliant crime fiction but I do think the big “twists” did fall a little short for me as I wasn’t overly shocked by them, perhaps my slump has something to do with that I’m not even sure but ye I just felt like something was missing for me in comparison to all the incredible reviews I had read.
Don’t get me wrong though I would still highly recommend this one to people and I did really enjoy reading it, the premise is very very clever, it’s definitely encouraged me to pick up more of this authors works!
Another fantastic read by the incredible Gillian McAllister! It is full of the usual suspense, with twists and turns on every page which leaves you guessing. I was utterly engrossed within this book, and found myself finishing it within one sitting. It was an easy read, however there are a lot of difficult themes within this book. Despite this, Gillian executes this really well. I'm still thinking about this book, long after reading it!
This was quite an enjoyable read with a few big surprises along the way. At times the plot did seem a bit convoluted but it all came together in the end. My only trouble with the book was that I didn't really like Julia that much, didn't approve of the way she handled the opening incident in the book, and so found it difficult to really feel that sorry for her when subsequent events happened.
This was absolutely brilliant! Highly recommend this one! Thanks to NetGalley, the editor and the author for the opportunity to access this copy.
I was drawn to Just Another Missing Person after reading How to Disappear which I loved. As such, my expectations were quite high going into reading and it didn't quite hit the mark for me. Just Another Missing Person was an enjoyable read but it felt like it took a bit too long to get to the really gripping stuff. However, the twists are big and came out of nowhere, while still making a lot of sense within the context of the book, so in that respect, this book is very well executed. If you like the TV show, Line of Duty, this book will likely to appeal to you as it has a very similar feel to it.
Another release from Gillian McAllister that I really enjoyed. I loved the different POVs throughout and the twists in this book were next level.
I can’t wait to see what the author releases next.
Thank you to @netgalley and Penguin Random House for allowing me to read this ARC.
Believe it or not, this is my first book by Gillian and it defo has made me want to pick up her others!! I absolutely loved it. I was hooked on every single page and couldn't put it down.
The whole storyline was brilliant. The characters were amazing and I absolutely loved DI Julie Day. She is such an incredible woman and I was rooting for her throughout.
This was such a good thriller but it also packed in some emotion in there to make you think and feel all sorts!
The twists. Well, I tried and tried to guess where this book was going but I had no idea what WAS going to happen. The first twist completely threw me then they just kept on coming 👀 so brilliantly written too and then it all came together.
Absolutely amazing 😍
Thanks to Netgalley for my early copy of this great new book. It’s a really good read with good characters, sharp writing and lots twists and turns in the plot. I was hooked from the beginning and found it hard to put it down!
Now *this* is a thriller. Be sure to start ‘Just Another Missing Person’ with a whole day ahead of you, or you’ll be up till 3AM finding out what happened: the book is packed with twists, turns and reveals that’ll make you shriek, and the stories are so intricately entangled that you’ll wonder how anyone could come up with such a neatly-screwed-together plot. 22-year-old Olivia is seen on CCTV entering a dead-end alleyway, but never leaves, and has not been heard from since – before disappearing she sent a mysterious text to her new housemates, asking them to ‘please come’. DI Julia Day is in charge of the investigation, which she knows is a race against time, taking her attention away from her bright daughter Genevieve and complicated relationship with Genevieve’s father. Upon leaving the crime scene alone Julia is confronted by a masked man, who instructs her to frame another person for Olivia’s murder – if she doesn’t plant evidence, he’ll reveal her secret, the truth about what she and Genevieve did all those years ago. How far would Julia go to protect her daughter? There’s only one way to find out. Staggeringly-well plotted, this is a brilliantly fun read that you simply won’t be able to put down.

This was a tense thriller with you being left guessing as to how it would all fit together and how it was all done. Great writing and kept your gripped and shows what you would do for your child.
Absolutely brilliant, loved it. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an advance copy, I will definitely be recommending.
What a twisty, tricksy book this is. Full of heart, raw emotion, impossible decisions, human frailty and a complex and compelling storyline.
I was hooked from the start and then McAllister adds a tricksy sucker punch that just got me more wrapped up in the story.
The characters are hugely believable and the mantra 'there but for the grace of god' kept running through my mind. McAllister takes a seemingly no brainer decision and exploores it from so many angles and with so many variables that you're left reaaly wondering what you yourself would do if in that situation.
Although this was my first McAllister book, it most certainly won't be my last.
I was introduced to Gillian McAllister in Wrong Time, Wrong Place which I thought was ingenious, unique and the plot was mind-blowing.
Just Another Missing Person is another example of incredible plotting and audacious twists. Julia is a dedicated DI, a woman who loves her job often to the detriment of her family life. When she is called from the restaurant to investigate the disapperaance of a missing girl, Olivia, she has no idea how the case will impact on her professional and personal life, how she will risks losing everything …and this isn’t the first girl who has gone missing…
This book had me spinning. I almost stopped reading after the early chapters. I thought I had understood the character of Julia - diligent, devoted to her job, a by the book cop…and then the plot reveals something she has done in the past and to me it felt out of character. I was really torn at this point but I kept going and the plot got so compelling I couldn’t stop. This is one twisty turn read and I was constantly surprised at what it threw up. I loved the parallel devotions of parents to their adult kids - Emma, Lewis and Julia all loved their kids with a passion and what they would or wouldn’t do for them is what makes this book tick…
As with Wrong Time I was really impressed with the plotting and the originality of the plot and I enjoyed the read. However, I think for me this felt a bit too improbable and I still couldn’t reconcile what Julia did…Definitely looking forward to more by this author!
With many thanks to Netgalley and Michael Joseph for a digital copy of this book.
Absolutely brilliant! I’m on holiday without my kids so read it in one sitting - couldn’t put it down! A fantastic start to my holiday and a tough act to follow. I honestly don’t know how Gillian’s brain works to come up with these plot twists but I am absolutely here for it. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review - I will be shouting from the rooftops about it on publication day!
Another fast paced thriller from McAllister with plenty of twists and turns right until the very end! It kept me interested and reading quickly over a few days. I'm excited to see the author talk about this book at a literary festival now. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book.

You know this one is a great thought out thriller - you get the feeling that not a hair was left out of place in regards to the plot. It’s complex, it’s exciting and addictive. I loved the multiple narrators; the complex cast, how the story unfolded deliciously slowly and making you want more.

Wrong Place Wrong Time was one of my favourite reads of 2022 and put Gillian McAllister swiftly on my list of auto-but authors. Although Just Another Missing Person didn’t quite have the same wow factor for me, I still thought it was an excellent read.
The book is well written and cleverly plotted, with so many twists and turns I could hardly keep up. The reveal in the middle is one I definitely didn’t see coming.
The characters are well-drawn; I particularly liked the dynamic between the main character Julia and her daughter, Genevieve.
Just Another Missing Person is a superb crime thriller, and one I couldn’t put down.
Once again Mcallister gives us another multi layered mystery that ensures just when you think you've got to grips with what is going on, another reveal throws everything up in the air again. A must for fans, and a great introduction for anyone who has never read a novel from her before.
I absolutely love Gillian McAllister's work so I was delighted to hear another book was coming out. Her work is always thoroughly engaging so I couldn't wait to dive in.
This is a police procedural centering on DCI Julia Day and the hunt for a missing woman, Olivia. Olivia was last seen on CCTV going into a dead end alley, but she never came back out! What's more, Julia is forced to NOT find out what happened to her, and rather, must frame someone else!
I ended up loving the story but the first half was a little bit slow. There was a lot of background info, especially with regards to Julia and her daughter Genevieve. There was a bit of repetition, but it all built up the story and mystery.
Come the second half the twists started coming through and I really started to enjoy it. It was definitely worth holding out for. The plot twists were crazy! There's definitely some very clever writing, research and thought gone into them. You may think you know what's coming next, but invariably the story goes completely the other way! Brilliant!
A solid 4 star, and enjoyable read and I can't wait for the next one. Thank you to Netgalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
Olivia is missing. She was last seen on CCTV entering a dead-end alley, and not coming back out.
Detective Julia is assigned to the case, but things get complicated when the investigation hits too close to home. Julia struggles with her own dark secret and is forced to frame someone else for Olivia's murder in order to protect her family.
As usual, McAllister has pulled it out of the bag again! Each time, I think, “Surely it will not top her last book!” but it does!
The main theme in the book is moral dilemmas. Told from various POVs, we really get into each character’s head as they weigh up whether they are doing the right thing. Each character is well-developed and flawed, making them relatable and believable.
As usual with a McAllister novel, nothing is predictable and straightforward, and you do not know which path McAllister will lead you down next.
The plot is unpredictable and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Although the story starts off slow and may seem complex at times, the pace picks up quickly and the twists keep coming. The book is full of suspense and has several major twists that will leave readers shocked.
A dark, gritty, well-thought-out thriller!
