Is your name here? Utterly delightful skirt through some wonderfully grouped signees' monikers.
Hugely simple premise - Julia has signed many, many books over the years - here are some of the children she's autographed books for.
Grouped adorably - into colours, historical names, animal names, names relating to food, fairy tales and flowers - it's a cornucopia of smiley pages that rhyme beautifully and give joy to a carefully curated selection of names.
Some you might know, some you might not, you might look for your own name, but it's a sweet and simple book celebrating the variety of our names, what images they conjure up, and allowing a little wordplay to creep into a picture book... with no story whatsoever.
Whimsical illustrations that help a child understand the context of each group, it's a lovely little bedtime read.
For ages 3 to 6.
With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample reading copy.
An impressive list poem, based on some wacky choices of names the famous author has allegedly had to dedicate a book to at a signing. If there's a fault it's that the rhyme is so easy to read, but the amount of details in the artwork are so wonderful, the reading becomes a little disjointed as we try and take them all in. The only thing to do, then, is start right back at the beginning. As all great books should demand. A fine work – four and a half stars.
The hugely successful, much-loved writer Julia Donaldson has signed a lot of books for children, and here she recalls some of their names - in rhyme.
This is such a simple idea yet so clever!
Julia Donaldson has been asked to sign hundreds and thousands of books in her successful career, and she has met children with some lovely and often unusual names. She's listed them here in rhyme, with colourful and cheery illustrations from Nila Aye.
They're collected in themes - months of the year, flowers, colours and food - and there's Julia's whimsy as well as rhythm and rhyme to enjoy.
"I've signed for boys called Romeo
and girls called Julie .
I've signed for Roman, Saxon, Dane -
Though not for Norman yet."
A very lovely book!
It's Julia Donaldson! When it comes to writing for children, she's just there at the top of the list. It's a lovely, fun rhyming book, which we have come to expect from her and it is matched by the beautiful and witty illustrations of Nila Aye. I am so looking forward to having a copy of this to read to the children in my class. One page has three of their names on, pretty good going Julia! Thanks to Macmillan Children's Books and Netgalley.
Told in her infamous rhyme, this new release from Julia Donaldson has a gorgeous sentiment behind it. After years of signing picture books for her fans, she's now made a book dedicated to them...
Are you looking for ideas to name a new baby or a pet or a toy? Well Julia Donaldson has kept a list of all the names she's ever signed and here is here round-up of some of them. Maybe your name is on the list or the name of someone you know or maybe there are names you've never heard of before...why not dive in and take a look?
Focusing on names from nature, names inspired by history, names that rhyme and names that are beautifully unusual, this is simply a celebration of readers and a book full of joy. Nila Aye's stunning pictures reflect the theme of the names on each page - from food to fairies to space - and it's impossible not to read it with a smile. Highlighting that each and every one of us are uniquely different, it brings readers together through their shared love of books. Even my daughter's name is in it, reminding us of the special time we were able to get a signed book. If you're a fan of beautiful names and rhyme then this is a book you won't want to miss.
I thought that this was a lovely story and the illustrations were perfect for the book!
I loved the idea behind this book and although my daughters name (Ava) wasn’t one of the ones that was picked to be in the book, I loved that she was able to add it in! We read the book together and I think it was perfect for her at age 5.
It was easy to read, I loved the flow and she loved trying to find the names of her school friends in the book too.
We do love Julia Donaldson’s books in our house and this was one we really loved!
It is 5 stars from us for this one, loved that it was interactive and fun – very highly recommended!
Lovely written book. Read to my children (3 and 6 years old) and they enjoyed looking out for their names and their school friends names. The names included are the more unusual ones compared to traditional names. My 6 year old wants to read it herself next, so was a hit!
