I really enjoyed this audiobook - the plot was good and straight to the point. I liked the plotline of the detective having a history with the killer. I kept trying to figure out who the killer was, but didn't have any inclination until it was revealed. This book reminded me of great thriller/suspense movies of the early 2000's like "Along Came A Spider" or "Murder by the Numbers".
I would recommend this audiobook.
This book is the perfect opener to a new series. It was twisty, gripping and truly terror inducing!
Lexi Bennet is a fabulous character, strong, yet with a past that leaves her vulnerable at the same time. It helps you to really get on board with her.
It was a real chilling mystery. It would be great read as a standalone, however personally, I cant wait for the next in the series!
I thought the plot involving triplets was really different, inventive and horribly scary at the same time!
I look forward to reading more in the series and really getting to know Lexi.
This is my first exposure to this author and I was not disappointed. Belsham has delivered a fast paced and deliciously wicked tale. The characters are well rounded and come across as believable, whether you love them or hate them. This provocative, somewhat dark and twisted story grabs you from the first page and keeps you guessing until the very end! I am anxiously awaiting to see what new adventures Lexi Bennett will encounter next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The Girls on Chalk Hill by Alison Belsham is an enthralling and chilling thriller that will keep you captivated from start to finish.
In this gripping story, Detective Lexi Bennett is devastated when she discovers the bodies of two teenagers, their throats brutally cut. As she delves into the investigation, she realizes the victims are triplets, and the third sister, Paige, is missing. The case hits close to home for Lexi, as she herself is a triplet who experienced a traumatic abduction in her past.
The premise of the story is compelling, and Lexi's personal connection adds an extra layer of intensity. The author's skillful narration alternating between Lexi's perspective and the chilling voice of the perpetrator adds to the suspense and creates a sense of unease. Lexi is a strong and determined protagonist, and her FBI training and personal experiences make her a compelling character. The balance between the investigation, Lexi's personal life, and her relationships with colleagues is well-executed, providing depth to the story.
The pacing of the book is deliberately slow, allowing the tension and creepiness to build gradually. It's a refreshing change from the typical fast-paced thrillers and adds a unique flavor to the narrative. The author's attention to detail and the intricacy of the plot make this a standout thriller. The gradual unveiling of the motives and the well-developed characters personally kept me engaged and invested throughout. As the first book in the Detective Lexi Bennett series, The Girls on Chalk Hill sets a promising foundation. I eagerly anticipate future installments and the further exploration of Lexi's life and work.
Overall, The Girls on Chalk Hill is an exceptional slow-burn thriller filled with tension, intrigue, and a strong protagonist. I highly recommend it to fans of the genre.

The Girls on Chalk Hill, by Alison Belsham
Put your life on hold for a few hours, this book is so compelling, you won’t be able to stop!
Fortunately, the audiobook narration by Sofia Zervudachi is exemplary and I was able to speed it up without losing the expression or clarity of the words.
I loved the premise of Lexi Bennett, a police inspector, being the lead on this case where two out of three triplets have been murdered and the third, Paige, is missing; Lexi reveals that she is a triplet herself and that she and her sisters suffered a similar ordeal many years ago, and only two of them survived. Her sister, Rose, was never found.
As a twin mum myself, this book gave me goosebumps when we heard from the creepy and evil perpetrator, which was a brilliant touch by the author, running his commentary concurrently as we heard how his obsession with Lexi is what was driving him.
Lexi is a strong woman, physically and emotionally. I liked her a lot and was rooting for her. I felt so much tension as she raced to find Paige and the scenes between Lexi and Joanne Carter, Paige’s mother, had me feeling really emotional.
As the first in what I hope will be a long running series of books with Lexi at the helm, I really enjoyed the balance between the details of the case, the snippets of Lexi’s personal life, her relationship with her colleagues and her FBI training.
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I was given the opportunity to read and review on NetGalley. This was a well written mystery that kept me guessing. I was a little slow getting into it. But it stayed with me and I ended up unable to put it down. It was an excellent first book for a new series. It wrapped up the main crime but left just enough open to keep me interested in the series as it continues. I think we're in for some great surprises in future books.
The girls on Chalk Hill
By Alison Belsham
Edge of my seat serial killer thriller without too much gore! I was enticed by the female detective who had experienced an abduction at a young age and being a triplet herself. I found myself intrigued and involved searching with Lexi and her new crew to find the killer and the missing sister. There were hints at Lexi going to Quantico to learn profiling after her police training and I hope the next books give more insights to her experiences there. Fans of Jane Harper will enjoy this fast paced thriller! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! Excited to see what comes next for Lexi!
Interesting mystery, chilling crime scene and setting in a small town. I liked the headstrong attitude of Bennett but the story itself and the interactions between characters was a little slow. Some parts felt like it dragged on a bit.
The Girls on Chalk Hill is a gripping thriller that had me hooked from the first chapter. This book follows DI Lexie Bennett as she investigates the kidnapping and murder of triplets. The story is mostly told from Lexie's point of view as she investigates and confronts the traumatic past she and her sisters shared, but there are a few chapters from the killer's pov that chilled me to the bone. One of the only issues I had with this book was the few loose ends that remained once the story ended. Hopefully the next book in the series addresses those. I'm looking forward to reading more from Alison Belsham soon! Lastly, I really liked the narrator. Her voice added so much tension and emotion to the story.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book started out slow. Almost too slow. I'm not sure if it was the British accent (which completely makes sense - it's based in Britain), or the story line. There were several times that I put it down and took a few days off, but I always came back. And boy, am I glad I did!!! At about 50%, the twists began and the story took off!!! I found my jaw on the floor several times. The plot wasn't farfetched, and the writing was extremely clever! I can't wait to read the next case in Lexi's series!!!
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 stars because of the slow beginning
Thank you for introducing me to Lexi Bennet! She may be my new favourite detective! From the first page to the last I was totally engaged and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The mystery unfolded in a dramatic and suspenseful way. Lexi approached it methodically, however we still got to see her personality shine through. The journey was certainly not a straight path, which I absolutely love! Enough clues to keep me going, but never enough to give it away!
I will be returning for more of Lexi!
Have you ever finished a book and IMMEDIATELY thought, “I need more!!” - that is how I felt with this one! We follow Lexi as she investigates the kidnapping and murder of triplets, which takes her back to her own kidnapping. We learn about what Lexi and her sisters, Amber and Rose, went through during their time in captivity - and what Lexi has gone through since then.
I found myself on the edge of my seat for most of this story - the narration kept my interest and I did not want to pause the audio. If I could have, I would have listened through with no breaks. The author did a fantastic job of giving us background on the main characters throughout the entire story, kind of like leaving breadcrumbs until we got to the end. And the narration? When the narrator switched to the kidnapper/killer’s voice I would get chills.
Such a good story - I cannot wait to listen to more from this author, and to hear more of Lexi’s journey as a DI. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery/thriller!

Move over Tracey Crosswhite there is a new Detective in town.
Im obsessed with this character and her story.
I had never heard of this author until netgalleys and now I want to listen/read every book.
Please when book two comes out have the audiobook ready for sale on audible because I need it ASAP.
This is the first in the Detective Lexi Bennett series, I do love getting stuck into a good book series. Great storyline that had me hooked from the start. Dual storyline of Lexi dealing with her own past demons while trying to solve her current case. The storyline is told from both Lexi’s and the perpetrator’s point of view and it was great to get both sides. I really liked the characters for different reasons and their relationships with each other. Really well developed plot that had the mystery factor going for it. Great pace to begin with but slowed off in the middle and got going again for the last 1/4. The narration was engaging and kept your attention. I look forward to the next instalment. It’s never a bad thing to find a new book series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to #TheGirlsOnChalkHill
Detective Lexi Bennett is on a case of abducted triplets, two (Lucy and Eden) who have been found murdered, and one (Paige) is still missing. As Lexi begins investigating and chasing down leads, you soon learn that Lexi has an eerie connection of her own to this case, see, Lexi is also a triplet, and had also been abducted, along with her sisters Rose and Amber. Lexi and Amber escaped, but Rose was never found. Now she's fully immersed in an investigation, that to be honest, she should never have been involved in as she's too close and has too much of a bias, and even other characters in the story tell her this as well. But alas, she's heavily involved anyway, and as she is diving deeper into leads, she soon uncovers that the man who abducted her and her sisters is most likely involved here as well, even leaving clues behind that only he had access to, and even parts of the story are from his point of view, which adds an extra layer of creepy factor into this very gripping novel as Lexi races to solve it to save Paige. You won't believe who she uncovers.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Sofia Zervudachi who was a pleasure to listen to. Not choppy nor robotic sounding, but flowed very well.
The first book in a new series, The Girls on Chalk Hill is a the type of book that pulls you in from the first pages and keeps you busy folding another load of laundry or take another lap so you can keep listening. Lexi is working a case where 2 of 3 triplets are found dead and the race is on to find the third. Lexi is also a triplet and was once abducted along with her sisters years ago. The premise may sound a bit gimmicky, but it is well done and makes for a great page turning mystery. Narration was excellent and easy to get drawn into. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Detective Lexi Bennett is in charge of a murder investigation. Two sisters have been found dead, and it is a race against time to find a missing girl and the person responsible. Lexi also has a past that she cannot escape.
I received a copy of The Girls on Chalk Hill as an audiobook in return for an honest review. I have only recently got into audiobooks as previously I felt as though I couldn't take in the story. I enjoyed this book and found myself wanting to get back to it. The book wasn't too long, not overly descriptive, and kept me guessing throughout. I found I could retain the story as I found it interesting. I liked the fact that some of the chapters are told from the point of view of the killer, and this gave the story more of an eerie feel.
I’ve just finished this and wow, what an immersive and riveting tale.
Brilliantly written with twists at every turn, this book is definitely a five star recommendation to all fans of the crime thriller genre.
Gruesome, creepy and clever with an interesting and likable heroine this is certainly one that you will read long into the night and the explosive ending is unforgettable.
Five Stars and a Must-Read.
Lexi has just returned home from a four year stint in America learning profiling and solving multiple murders. She’s back in her childhood town of Canterbury. On the morning she is due to start her new job running a police crime investigation unit, during her morning run she comes across a crime scene. This brings back memories, are the crimes linked, how can she recover from what happened 17 years ago and focus on the present?
Listened on audiobook and loved it. I felt the tension, the sadness, the emotions, the descriptions were great - it was like I was there.
Bring on book two.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. I love a good crime fiction series and this fit the bill. It was a fast listen and I loved the story line. Can not wait for the next one
