A young woman arrives in a peaceful Cornish village, with little to nothing with her of her former life. But that’s ok: this is a place of sanctuary, where you get embed yourself in the community, a place where everyone will take you to their heart. She’s not the only one to have made a new life in the village – but she is someone who captures the attention of a few of the locals, romantically. One in particular is certain that he is falling in love with her. But when you’re running away from your past life, it has a habit of catching you unawares when you least expect. What price did she pay in choosing to run, and how will she deal with the consequences of doing so? It’s a different kind of book from Tony, but one that you’ll want to read through to the end to see what happens. It takes a few unexpected turns but the plot is all the better for it.

Definitely Tony Parsons’ best in a long while.
I really felt for all of the characters, Cornwall was painted so beautifully and evocatively.
My one gripe, and it is only one, was that when Tom Cooper, the protagonist, was describing The Imaginary Fish - he was repetitive in his observations about Anton’s restauranteur - everything was repetitive especially the fact that restaurant critics had been to the imaginary fish and the sky was so full of stars - it was okay the first time around but jarring by the second. Sorry Tony.
Nevertheless, a fantastic read though - one I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, Tony Parsons’ is back at the top of his game..
Whilst I did have to suspend disbelief at certain aspects someone being stabbed in the neck with a lobster implement - then him being moved in the cover of darkness to an icehouse…. #WhoSheWas #Netgalley

There is a bonfire on the beach. It’s the middle of the night, seems a little suspicious so Will and Tom, locals, go to investigate. To their surprise it’s not townie surfers, but a young woman. This is just the start of St Jude’s menfolk becoming mesmerised by the enigmatic Clementine.

This book started so well. The setting and the characters really appealed and the plot help great premise. Unfortunately there was so much repeating of bus stop, seals and lobsters, etc., that it all became a little bland and spoilt a really good idea.

A good book for a holiday read, enjoyed the idea, disappointed with the repetition.

Thank you NetGalley.
