A fast-paced thriller with a strong female protagonist. Swallow's writing is both eloquent and visceral, transporting the reader into the heart of the action with every pulse-pounding sentence. The pacing is relentless, each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that left me desperate for more. From high-octane chase scenes to tense showdowns with shadowy adversaries, "Dark Horizon" never once lets up its grip on your imagination.

I really enjoyed this read but I think my dad or grandad would have enjoyed it more. I don't think me; a single mother in her 30s am really the target audience for Swallows books but I enjoyed it all the same.

With an intricate plot of terrorism, government agencies, and revenge it was actually a really enjoyable read.

A fast paced thriller with an Interesting plot and characters. For me, there was a little too much action, I would have preferred a little more plot, I was expecting some conspiracies but it was more action scene after action.

But it was a good romp and great to read on my holiday.

An excellent thrill ride, non stop action keeps you racing to the end. Great characters and plotting, could not put it down. Pilot Kate Hood is forced to fly a plane to an African country while her family are being held hostage. An action packed thriller you expect from James Swallow.
I received this book from Welbeck publishing and Netgalley for a review.

Sometimes you just need a book to drag you away from reality, leave your questions at the opening pages and embrace a fast paced, page turning, thrilling , action paced read. Dark Horizon is one such read and James Swallow is a superb writer of this genre of book. I was sold by the plane on the cover and the blurb " At 40,000 feet, there is no place to hide" . This book did not disappoint.

The book opens with a fatal road crush and two brutal murders in a small town in the UK , the two events are linked and so begins a tale of hijacking, kidnapping, terrorism, murder, double crossing, undercover missions , bravery and skill. A pilot with a secret past. The CIA and MI6 . A local police partnership. Mayhem in the sky. This book has it all! It cracks along at a lightening fast pace, decent storyline , great characters.. The epitome of a page turner that was impossible to put down.
A perfect summer beach read!

Another high-octane action thriller from the master James Swallow and what an ending! It is one of those that keeps me up at night thinking of all the different scenarios that can play out!

If you're in the mood for car crashes, hostage situations, hijacked airplanes as well as a lot of bad guys this is a definite read!
Kate Hood is one badass character who's got to make a very tough decision but if you have to decide between your loved ones or one bad guy is it such a difficult one?
She is forced to take over as a pilot of a plane that is on a covert mission to transport an alleged terrorist to a Black Ops site but there are people whose mission it is to not let this happen. Who will come out as the victor and how many lives will be lost? Will her partner Alex and his son George be collateral damage?

Put your seatbelt on and your seat in the upright position and get ready for a wild ride!
Thank you to Netgalley and Welbeck Publishing UK for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

Kate is a pilot with a history, so her only way to fly is with a no questions asked aviation company. Things don't feel right before she's even set off, and they become a lot worse when her family is in danger, too.

This is such a high octane read from the start and doesn't stop until the final page. This fast-paced story starts with a car bomb and delivers a thrill a minute ride. Absolutely fantastic reading.

Another amazeballs book by James Swallow!!!

I absolutely LOVE when James Swallow's books pops up on Netgalley as I know they are going to be fantastic to read.

Pace, intrigue, well developed characters, unexpected turns, and satisfactory ending!

Dark Horizon delivers on all of the above points!

Kate Hood left the military in disgrace and she is now working as a contract pilot for a private jet company doing the luxury flights only the mega rich can afford.

Late one evening, she's called in to do a flight which normally would have been taken by one of her colleagues but as he didn't show up, the pressure is on her to step up.

She quickly realises that this flight is not like the others she has done for the company and she's very reluctant to go through with it; that is until she realises that she doesn't really have a choice!

The plot is as deep and dark as it gets, multi-layered with 'who knew what when?' as the strands come together and the finer details get filled in. This is an absolutely compelling, gripping book full of mystery and suspense. Only a few authors can write deeply involving psychological drama of the very highest quality. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

3.5/5.

Dark Horizon is a poignant, action packed and twisted book. A fatal crash and a brutal murder of Colin Brady then murder of John Price in small town has not only torn apart the families but the unfortunate events due to secrets and conspiracies followed by terrorist activities has made it unsafe for everyone. Now Kate Hood is harbouring her own secret behind leaving the military. She had plans with Alex and her son George but the last minute assignment to fly a covert cargo to a non-extradition country has turned her life upside down. In the midst of secrets, violent terrorist conspiracy, enemies and allies, it has become such a predicament for her. Her decision will not only threaten her life but Alex and George’s life too depends on her. After fighting for survival and navigating a way through a dark passageway of dangers, violence and conspiracy, Kate can save herself, her family and passengers. But will she find her way out of dark horizon?

The author has done a brilliant job, it’s heart-throbbing and gripping thriller. Twists after twists will keep you at edge and the strong protagonist like Kate will touch your heart. The author has very well elaborated the crisis in the cargo as well as the crisis on ground. It was touching how Alex was fighting for George.

Thank you Netgalley, author and publisher.

James Swallow’s latest thriller takes the action 40,000 feet in the sky, bursting with intensity and anticipation of each subsequent page from the explosive opening. Dark Horizon is a brutal and uncompromising narrative of the lengths one will go to protect their loved ones, whether they’re trained pilots or not.
Kate Hood left the RAF under shrouded circumstances, now flying private for rich folks. When she’s pulled in for an urgent flight, she feels something off-kilter immediately, with government-issue vehicles and weapons guarding a hooded body. Her mission is to simply fly the covert cargo to a non-extradition nation. Unbeknownst to her, she has stepped foot in a web of danger and conspiracy centered around the cargo’s potential link to a violent terrorist conspiracy, not only putting her at risk but also those she cares deeply for. It quickly becomes a race for survival for both Hood in the air and her loved ones on the ground.
Dark Horizon packs the adventurous and exotic vibes of Swallow’s Nomad series. His focus on the plight of believable and life-like characters makes the turmoil all the more impactful as the characters, faced with imminent threat, pull off desperate maneuvers to starve off the danger. Kate Hood is a strong and admirable protagonist who shines with her take-charge-no-bs attitude, whether she’s playing coy or dodging missiles from Reaper drones in a jet hardly designed to sustain such crazy high-speed G-turns.
The action sequences are a thing of beauty, especially the aforementioned dogfight between a Reaper and a Hawker jet, an unlikely pairing but visualized and executed stupendously by Swallow in visceral style that every reader will take the time to say Holy Moly. The crises on ground is just as exciting and thrilling, with Hood’s firefighting boyfriend stopping at nothing to save his son from the dangers set upon them by Hood’s impromptu mission.
Dark Horizon connects a vast multitude of characters and parallel storyline in such densely packed writing that you don’t even need to worry about losing track. The fast-paced spidey-sense-tingling story with twists upon twists stacking up keep the story fresh and concentrated as you bite your nails to the quick in anticipation of how it all unfolds, and it does not disappoint. It’s a must-read standalone thriller that you will want to read with minimal interruption just because the unfolding of the action feels so addictive.
