This was a very easy read that I got through in a matter of hours. Some parts I felt were a bit too heavy-handed, but overall it was a quick, enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed this book. Wasnt expecting it to go the way it did and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.
Lucy and Sam have renovated a house and put it on the market, a viewing is set but the agent is running late and Licy needs to start the tour of the house on her own, nothing to worry about, right?
Will definitely be recommending this book and the author. Can't wait to read more.
Lucy is waiting for an estate agent to come to her home for a viewing with a potential buyer. Unfortunately the estate agent is running late and asks if Lucy can show the buyer her, and her partner Sam’s, house instead, which she agrees to but feels uncomfortable about. Soon she realises that something is wrong when the buyer refuses to leave.
This story is very entertaining with short, intriguing chapters that draw you in and make you want to carry on reading. I did find that the story dragged slightly half way through but then picked up nicely and became fast paced, suspenseful and very twisty! I had a few shock moments and loved all the action crammed in. Some parts may be slightly far fetched and crazy but I found myself enjoying it more because of this. Overall, once you get past some of the slower parts of the book, this is a very fun read and I look forward to seeing what the author comes up with next! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this copy in return for an honest review.
The first book I’ve read by CM Ewan but definitely not the last! This story had me suspecting everyone and second guessing right until the end. I did get a little lost and confused mid way through, but as each twist was unravelled and explained, it all tied together in the end.
Thank you for the advanced copy and creating a story that I binge read in one day!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this psychological thriller. The book has very short chapters helping to build intensity for a story that actually only takes place over a matter of hours. I liked that the chapters moving between Lucy and Sam appeared to be linear time wise actually weren't. I liked Lucy as a character and I'm glad she got to be a hero at the end of the book.
My first read by author C.M. Ewan and I found it a very interesting premise and a good read.
The story started quite slow for me personally, but it soon hotted up. Lucy shows a man around her and her partners home and from the very first introductions, the reader realises that something is not as it should be. Lucy has obvious issues and her partner Sam has helped her as he specialises in phobias etc.
When the house viewing goes awry, Lucy is desperate for Sam or the estate agent to get to the house and help her.
Whilst reading this novel, I did find I was slightly on edge, a woman basically held in her own own with a man who is extremely strange!
The writing is intense and good and I read The House Hunt within a few days.
Thanks to Netgalley, C.M. Ewan and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
The estate agent is running late so Lucy, who suffers from claustrophia, reluctantly agrees to show a prospective client around the house. This leads to a series of terrifying events. This is a pacy novel which maintains the tension throughout. The major twist at the end was unexpected.
A tense, page-turner of a psychological thriller. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-arc. All opinions are my own.
Another excellent page turner from Chris Ewan with that "Just one more chapter" vibe that keeps you reading into the early hours.
Seemingly ordinary people encountering extraordinary events is where this author lives and The House Hunt uses classic misdirection to weave a twisty, addictive tale around the reader.
Short snappy chapters, plenty of cliffhangers and a sting in the tale makes this wildly entertaining. Loved it.
I thought this was okay, but not as exciting as I expected it to be. It seemed a bit flat somehow, I thought it would be more thrilling.
Lucy and Sam's house is up for sale, normally when the estate agent is showing potential buyers around Lucy leaves her to it, but today Bethany is running late so Lucy has to overcome her fears and do it herself. But this viewing turns into a nightmare that Lucy feels she'll never escape from.
This novel was a fast paced action thriller. Very tense. You feel all of Lucy's anguish. It was very cleverly written as I didn't expect the final quarter at all. Left me completely blindsided
I read this book in a few hours and found it to be an easy read.
Lucy has emotional problems and has been renovating her boyfriend's house which he recently inherited and which they plan to sell in order to travel.
Sam (the boyfriend) is a lecturer specialising in phobias.
Lucy is due to show the house along with Bethany the estate agent. However, Bethany calls to say she'll be delayed and could Lucy progress in the short term without her? What follows is a claustrophobic experience for both the reader and Lucy. Donovan, the potential buyer, is an attractive man, but, is displaying strange behaviour and Lucy becomes more and more uneasy as the viewing progresses. There were elements that were overdone and dragged, but, overall it's an enjoyable read with some twists and turns.
Thanks to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview.
This thriller was everything a book lover can hope for! This is the one house showing that you cannot miss! Terrifying yet compelling!
Lucy and Sam are selling their house. Well, it's Sam's house really but Lucy has invested masses of time in helping to do it up. It's up to Lucy to show round a prospective buyer when the estate agent doesn't show up. She's reluctant to do this because of something that happened in her past but Donovan seems like a kind man, helping a child who fell of their scooter in front of Lucy's house and even offering to wait outside until the estate agent turns up. And Sam will be home soon, straight from the psychological support group he runs. So, she invites him in. After all, what harm can come of it? Well...
This was a page-turning, read-in-a day book. The atmosphere builds slowly to one of excruciating tension. Lucy suffers from claustrophobia and this was very well described. The twist is good, perhaps a touch unbelievable but well executed. I really enjoyed the fact that there was a lot of psychology in the book. A true psychological thriller. In fact I liked it so much I've just bought The Interview,
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Wow!! This book was gripping, I loved the twists and turns throughout and the ending was brilliant. It’s full of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters were great, the story itself was excellent and the style of writing was perfect. I have read other books by this author and have loved them all. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading psychological thrillers.

Lucy and Sam have remodeled their London home and are hoping to sell it and relocate out of the city. A potential buyer has a viewing while Sam is at work. The estate agent is running late, so when the potential buyer shows up Lucy reluctantly agrees to let him view the house. Lucy is very apprehensive throughout the viewing and before long her fears become real.
We all know that home is the one place we should feel safe and protected, unfortunately, this isn't the case for Lucy. Suffering from paranoia, and constantly feeling as if she's being watched, means that she doesn't even feel comfortable in her own home. C. M. Ewan uses this to great effect to set the opening scene in The House Hunt. When the prospective buyer, Donovan, turns up you fully understand Lucy's apprehension about allowing a complete stranger into her home. Donovan should have been accompanied by an estate agent, Bethany. who, unfortunately, is running late. When Donovan explains he's pressed for time and Lucy realises that there are lots of other properties nearby up for sale she warily agrees to start the viewing, assuming Bethany will arrive shortly.
We are given a sense of Donovan's character early on. Well-dressed, attractive, wealthy enough to be able to afford a property in London and compassionate; nothing that should cause alarm. As he tours the property he makes positive comments and asks all the right questions. However, you can feel the tension coming off the page as Lucy's neuroses make the viewing uncomfortable for her. Little by little you realise that something isn't quite right. Donovan begins to make some strange comments, he's wearing gloves, and when he views the basement he claims not to have heard Lucy shouting to him.
Along with her paranoia, Lucy is also claustrophobic, hence her unwillingness to enter the basement. The claustrophobia stems from an assault that took place a couple of years ago, an assault that her mind is blocking. Luckily, her boyfriend is a psychology lecturer and is helping her overcome the trauma.
The longer the viewing goes on, the more uncomfortable Lucy feels. I was getting palpitations as I was reading, dreading what was going to happen, feeling a growing sense of menace. The sense of relief when Bethany finally arrives is unbelievable but there is still a niggle at the back of your mind. Is this some kind of game? An experiment? Is Bethany involved in it? C. M. Ewan then throws in the first of many twists, leading to a terror-filled situation.
You are holding your breath, willing Lucy to summon the strength to overcome her phobias and simply survive until her boyfriend is able to get home and rescue her.
This was my first C.M Ewan book and WOW it was fantastic. I absolutely loved this book was hooked on the first page and raced through it could not put it down. It was a twisty book where every chapter was left on a cliffhanger. A brilliant well written thriller. I highly recommend this incredible thriller which will have you up late in the night reading. Thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me an advance copy.
The House Hunt started off well, sucked me into the story and I was doubting every character!
The main twist took me by surprise but from 2/3 of the way through, so many other curveballs were added into the mix and it soon became too much for me. Too much to follow and keep track of within the original plotline.
Very thrilling but sometimes, less is more.
I devoured The House Hunt in a couple of days. Lucy and Sam have renovated their house and are looking to sell it. A house viewing has been set up but the estate agent is running late and wants Lucy to show Donovan around her house himself. She can do this, can’t she? But something feels wrong and when Lucy asks him to leave, he doesn’t. What follows is a gripping thriller with plenty of twists as Lucy aims to discover the truth. This book is brilliantly written and I can highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and the author for the chance to review.

Overall, I throughly enjoyed this book and all the plot twists that it presented! Another cracking book by C.M Ewan.
I absolutely loved this book and was completely hooked on every page. It's twisty and unexpected and really damn scary. A brilliant well written and scarly realistic story xx
