It was hard to out down! I was so invested on this and I didn't expected the twists. It was all quite believable which was why I was so immersed. Fast-paced thriller.
A fast paced twisty tale which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
This really kept me engrossed as i needed to find out what was going on.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Five star read!
Lucy has been sharing a home with her boyfriend Sam, which they have renovated and are now planning to sell. The house originally belonged to Sam's grandparents, and the idea is that once it has been sold, Lucy and Sam will use the money to fund their plans for travel and new adventures abroad.
The story is told from two perspectives. Alternating narratives feature a session on phobias that Sam is hosting for his clients as part of his research on phobias, and Lucy's experience of showing someone around the house.
Lucy has a number of issues, including anxiety and claustrophobia, so she finds it very helpful when Sam is able to advise her on how to manage these better. When the estate agent calls at the last minute to inform Lucy that the agency needs her help showing a client the house she reluctantly agrees.
The client, Donovan, is a strange person. Feeling increasingly uncomfortable at his behaviour, Lucy finally asks him to leave, and receives a shocking piece of information that makes it clear that Donovan is not who he claims to be.
This story offers any number of twists and turns, keeping the reader's horrified interest quite well-engaged. Some suspension of disbelief may be required at certain points and it does contain violence, but as a thriller, the book does deliver the goods.
I raced through this book and read it in just a few hours but I just didn't enjoy the ending
Some people may love it but it just didn't work for me
Quite a slow start, but then it’s away in to a very tightly written thriller, that actually will thrill.
There is no excess in this book, no pointless plot parts and not a second where the atmosphere lets up.
A great read.
This book slowly becomes more and more unsettling until it becomes pure, chaotic moreish reading. ALL the twists and turns. As soon as it changes pace and everything starts to go wrong...I loved it! What seemed so normal to begin with is, is not all it seems and nor are the characters. enjoyed this
While Sam is away at work, Lucy reluctantly stays at home to show a prospective buyer through their recently renovated house as her real estate agent is running late. But Lucy doesn’t feel comfortable, whether because of her extreme phobias or that the buyer Donovan is asking very strange questions and is very intense.
The last C M Ewan book I read was The Interview and I could not stop turning the pages to see what happened it was so addictive. This is more of the same, and while it starts off a little slower as the reader follows both Lucy and Sam’s stories, the build up of tension is excellent.
This is a thriller with so many twists and turns in it you will be dizzy. Just when you think you know what is happening, the story takes another sharp turn.
If you like a good psychological thriller this is a must for your TBR pile.
Just incredible! I literally loved every second of reading this book. The author has written it in such a way that I was completely blindsided by the multiple twists and turns, as the the story raced on to its spectacular finale. This story is crafted so beautifully and I feel like all the little details had really be thought about. Nothing was written “just because”. The tension builds continually throughout making this one intense page-turner. It also concluded with no loose ends and I loved that 👏🏻 I cannot wait to read more by C.M.Ewan (quickly goes and adds to wishlist)!

Awesome.
Your estate agent calls.
She’s running late and needs you to show a man around your home. You let him in and begin the tour. But something about him feels wrong... You ask him to leave and he refuses. Then he tells you something about you. Something inconceivable. And then you realize..He doesn't want your house. He wants you..
Go and read it. It's a CM Ewan book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me an advance copy.
Lucy and Sam are looking to sell their house but the latest viewer isn’t who they think he is which results them being thrown into a fast paced tale with twists and turns throughout.
Based on the above I should have enjoyed this book however The House Hunt didn’t quite hit the spot for me. Maybe some of the twists were too obvious. Maybe the style of writing didn’t quite work at times.
So, overall an ok book..
This is the first book I have read by this author.
Lucy and Sam are selling their renovated house and the mysterious Donovan has come for a viewing.
The story started well, with plenty of great descriptions and tension, but as it went on the writing style changed. I wasn't keen on the one-sentence paragraphs which were almost like bullet-points. And the plot became a bit too unbelievable with an incredible amount of fighting and chasing each other around a burning building.
Then again, there were plenty of twists and turns and fast-paced action if you like that sort of thing.

The House Hunt - C M Ewan

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
Overview:
Lucy and her boyfriend Sam are looking to sell their recently renovated house to go travelling together. A last minute viewing has been booked in but the estate agent is running late, leaving Lucy to show potential buyer Donovan around. Things start to take a strange turn and Lucy is questioning whether this is just her paranoia and phobias getting the better of her, or is Donovan not all that he seems.
My Review:
I don’t want to give too much of the story away in the synopsis but safe to say there are many twists and turns in this book! I did struggle with the first half as it was very slow paced and we spend a lot of time being taken through the house viewing with Lucy describing all the different features etc. I was getting to the point where I felt bored and I just wanted to get the book finished and move onto something else. But then the second half took off! The pace very quickly picked up and I really enjoyed the twists and how the whole story came together at the end. I actually think this story would make a really good film and I think perhaps if the first half wasn’t so drawn out and slow I would have been able to give this the full 5 stars.
I wasn't sure what was going to happen in the book with the twists and turns and I don't know if it's just me but I'm left a little confused
I was super excited to read this after hearing numerous good reviews about the author but, sadly, I was on the fence with this book.
It was a slow start, I'm not sure I really engaged with the writing style. That is, it didn't hook me in.
As big thriller fan, I'm just not sure this one was really for me.
I don’t really know how to start this review as this book totally threw me!
Lucy lived with her psychology lecturer boyfriend Sam in his grandparents old house which they had renovated and were now looking to sell. Lucy had a call from the estate agent to say she was running late so could Lucy start showing Donovan ( the prospective buyer) around. Lucy wasn’t comfortable with this at all but reluctantly agreed to do it.
Lucy had had some issues in her past that meant she was wary of strangers, meeting people and she was claustrophobic. Sam ran therapy groups for people with phobias and Lucy was grateful for all the help Sam gave her in trying to cope with everyday things. Lucy was very wary of the buyer, Donovan, and hoped the estate agent Bethany would hurry up and arrive.
I thought I knew what was going to happen but was very wrong - this group had me second guessing the whole way through and had lots of twists and turns. A really good read.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Pan macmillan for the ARC (my first!) of The House Hunt by CM Ewan in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by this author and I very much enjoyed the short chapters and descriptive writing style ('spatters', 'splotches', 'splayed').
Chapters alternate between Lucy (first person), who is showing her house to a viewer and Sam (third person), her boyfriend who specialises in phobias. Lucy has claustrophobia and we are aware something terrible happened in her past.
The book is fairly slow to get going but this does build the tension. Then once it gets going, boy does it race along. I enjoyed the twist as I didn't see it coming. I found it a little complicated but the ending was satisfactory. I think you'd enjoy this if you read Sarah Denzil.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author and I did so based on recommendations from others.
It started well and I was intrigued by the concept. Lucy and Sam are selling their house and when their estate agent is running late Lucy agrees to show a potential buyer, Donovan, around the property.
Their is an underlying feeling of tension from the start when Lucy has a bad feeling about Donovan and this drew me into the novel.
However as it progressed it became too far fetched for me , I didn’t feel that the writing flowed and it lost the sense of tension.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.
Wow! The pace of this was phenomenal. I absolutely loved it. It was the most tense because book I have ever read- I don’t think I breathed for the last quarter! Fabulous writing style with short snappy sentences to build up the tension.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Lucy and her partner, Sam, have their house on the market. Bethany, Lucy’s estate agent is running late and wants her to show the next client, Donovan, around herself until she can get there. Lucy suffers with anxiety, but pushes her fear aside to show this stranger around her home. Except, Donovan isn’t really wanting to buy her home, but more spend time with her looking for answers.
This was a slow burn to begin with, but really ramped up soon enough. Usually in these types of books we are given clues throughout as to the outcome, but this author didn’t give anything away, and the plot was very twisty and turny. There was lots of action, which made this story jaw dropping in places. The characters were ok, I felt Lucy was annoying, but I did like Donovan. Another great read from this author!!
And breathe. It’s a rare and wonderful thing when you can’t anticipate where a story is heading.
From the outset we’re aware that this isn’t a regular house viewing and then things take a deliciously sinister turn.
It’s a wild ride with interesting characters and some very effective misdirection. Makes you think too. Can’t wait for the audiobook.
