William Warwick returns for another super, fast paced episode. His nemesis Miles Faulkner is set on revenge and destroying the careers of William, his partner and his boss as he sets out to achieve the ultimate unattainable goal, steal the Crown Jewels. If you aren’t familiar with the characters, the first few chapters quickly place everyone, although fans of William Warwick will delight in cheering along this highly likeable detective. It’s a jolly good yarn, really well plotted, action packed and a great page turner.

Easy read from a well known story teller. The story had pace even if some of it was a bit cliched. If you are just wanting a nice easy crime novel this could be for you.
Traitors Gate by Jeffrey Archer has been an excellent series and this is the sixth book in the excellent William Warwick series. This has been a series that I have been hooked from the very first book called Nothing Ventured which was a five star read.
This was a book that is full of great twists and turns that will have you turning your pages quickly to read what happens next, which made it another addictive book within this series a Great read.
I loved it and looking forward to book seven within this series.
Reading Archer novels is a bit like eating sweets … not the best choice maybe, but enjoyable! Archer delivers another captivating tale in this page-turner. If you seek an entertaining and easy read, this series is perfect for you. This is the sixth installment, and all the books are worth reading. The dynamic between the protagonist, William Warwick, and his enduring adversary, Miles Faulkner, remains compelling. I especially enjoyed how Archer intertwined the history of the Crown Jewels with the 1990s setting. It's a good easy read.
The sixth William Warwick novel, and it is just as exciting as those before. Whilst part of a series, these twisty crime reads can be read as standalone novels. Traitor's Gate sees Warwick's nemesis, Miles join in a plot to steal the crown jewels, one that will ultimately embarrass Warwick and see him disgraced from his job. This is an exciting read and the adrenalin is increased as time is limited for Warwick in the race to return everything to the status quo and catch his villain. Heart-in-throat action until the end. #traitorsgate #Jeffreyarcher #netgalley
I love Jeffrey Archer books and this series in particular so was ver pleased to receive a free advance copy from net galley and the publisher; many thanks.
The book follows the adventures of William Warwick. It’s a fast paced thriller with a race against time and as such is a real page turner. I couldn’t put it down. As usual, there are some fiendish and clever twists, which I particularly enjoy. Can’t wait for the next one!
This is the 6th book in the William Warwick series but is the second that I have read - and it was good!
For four years, Chief Superintendent William Warwick has been involved with retrieving the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London for the state opening of parliament. For four years, it has run like clockwork....but not this year. Arch nemesis and master thief, Miles Faulkner has plans to steal the Crown Jewels and end the careers of his hated opponents, Warwick, Hogan and Commander Hawkesby.
This is a thrilling tale that builds slowly towards the robbery itself. Utilising a cast of undesirables and misfits, Faulkner sets about pulling off the biggest heist he has ever attempted - even using Warwick's own father as part of his alibi. It is a twisty plot that I just about managed to stay ahead of. Archer is a fabulous story teller that is able to take readers on a journey in a way that makes them feel that they are peeping over the shoulder of the main players. There are a couple of other subplots running at the same time - Warwicks wife being made director of an art gallery and having to 'steal' a painting back from Miles Faulkner, Hogan getting into trouble for potential jury tampering, and the Warwick children writing an essay for a competition about the last person who tried to steal the Crown Jewels. Some of these side plots feel like filler - specially the essay writing competition as this mirrors the heist that Faulkner plans.
Traitors Gate is a good story that kept me coming back to find out what happened. Not quite vintage Archer but pretty good all the same.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is book 6 in the William Warwick crime series. As with all Jeffrey Archer's books it is well-written with a lively pace. I quickly became hooked on to the story of the theft of the crown jewels and found it a very enjoyable read.
Highly recommended.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for this arc.
“Traitors Gate,” the sixth installment in Jeffrey Archer’s William Warwick series, is a thrilling narrative that intertwines historical fiction with suspenseful crime drama. Set against the backdrop of the Tower of London, the novel revolves around the audacious plot to steal the Crown Jewels during their annual transport for the State Opening of Parliament. Archer’s storytelling prowess is on full display as he crafts a tale filled with intricate details and rich character development.
The protagonist, Chief Superintendent William Warwick, faces the ultimate test of his career as he leads the elite protection squad at Scotland Yard in thwarting this unprecedented heist. The narrative is gripping, with a pace that accelerates towards a climax that promises to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Archer’s ability to weave a complex story while maintaining clarity is commendable, and his characters are vividly portrayed, each with their unique motives and backgrounds.
However, some reviews suggest that “Traitors Gate” may lack the ‘unputdownable’ quality of Archer’s previous works, with a plot that meanders and characters that struggle to come alive beyond the pages. Despite this, Archer’s fans and readers of the series will find much to enjoy in this latest adventure of William Warwick, as it delivers the twists and turns expected of a master storyteller.
In summary, “Traitors Gate” is a solid addition to Jeffrey Archer’s repertoire, offering a blend of historical intrigue and modern-day crime that will satisfy fans of the genre. Whether it stands out as one of Archer’s best works may be subjective, but it certainly encapsulates his skill in crafting engaging narratives that explore the depths of human ambition and the complexities of justice.
This book honestly gave me chills! It’s a fantastic mystery and will have you gripped from the first page until the last !
If you’re looking to completely get lost in a story then look no further!

William Warwick and Ross Hogan are responsible for supervising the Crown Jewels as they are taken from the Tower of London to Buckingham Palace. But when the unthinkable happens, the pair need to restore the jewels and catch the perpetrators before the theft is discovered.
Traitors Gate is the latest of Jeffrey Archer’s William Warwick series, set in 1996. As with all his stories, it is entertainingly written and makes for a thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish. The tension mounts as Warwick and Hogan battle to discover the location of the real jewels and it makes the book thrilling. Impossible to put down once you’ve started!
The latest sequel of the William Warwick series by Jeffrey Archer is expectedly unputdownable. Archer is a master storyteller and keeps you on your toes the whole way through with many twists and turns.
Warwick's arch enemy Miles Faulkner is planning an elaborate heist to steal the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London which in turn challenges Scotland Yard enormously. There are also a couple of side events connected to the main story line, the taking of a paining and a court case.
All in all I would definitely recommend this fast paced action thriller.
Many thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for giving me the opportunity of reviewing the ARC.

I thoroughly enjoyed this instalment of the William Warwick series having not enjoyed the previous one as much as the others, This felt like a return to the winning, entertaining formula I've come to expect. Will Miles Faulkner finally outwit William and the rest of the team? The only way to find out is to read it already. you won't be disappointed.
EXCERPT: Tuesday 22 October 1996
Commander Hawkesby pulled open the bottom drawer of his desk and took out two dice, although he was not a gambling man.
Superintendent William Warrick and Inspector Ross Hogan remained standing as the Hawk, like a Vegas croupier, shook the dice vigorously in his right hand before tossing them onto his desk and waiting for them to settle.
'Five and two,' said William. The Hawk raised an eyebrow as he waited for William and Ross to confirm the relevance of the two numbers. 'Five, sir,' said William, 'means that when we leave the palace, we'll be taking the longer Embankment route.'
'And the two, Inspector?' demanded Commander Hawkesby, switching his attention to Ross.

ABOUT 'TRAITORS GATE': THE TOWER OF LONDON…
Impenetrable. Well protected. Secure. Home to the most valuable jewels on earth. But once a year, when the Queen attends the State Opening of Parliament, the Metropolitan Police must execute the most secret operation in their armory as they transport the Crown Jewels across London.
SCOTLAND YARD…
For decades, the elite squad at Scotland Yard have been in charge of the operation. And for decades, it’s run like clockwork.
THE HEIST…
But this year, everything is about to change. Because a master criminal has set his sights on pulling off the most outrageous theft in history―and with a man on the inside, the odds are in his favor. Unless the team can stop him before it’s too late…
MY THOUGHTS: I know I can always rely on Jeffrey Archer for a top quality read and he hasn't let me down with Traitors Gate.
As always, Jeffrey Archer grabbed my attention from the start and held me firmly in his grip until I closed the cover after his last word. Immediately I said to my husband, 'You have to read this!'
I love this series. William Warwick aka 'The Choirboy' is a man who is incorruptible. He has a staunch moral code and sticks to it. His arch-nemesis Miles Faulkner is out of jail and looking for revenge. The chance to take it in the most spectacular fashion presents itself from a most unlikely source. But it's not just Warrick he has his sights set on, it is the three: Hawkesby, Warrick and Hogan.
The plotting in Traitors Gate is meticulous. An incredible amount of research has obviously been done and has paid off. The historical aspects interwoven into the plot add interest and authenticity. The pacing is perfect, the crimes complex and needing split-second timing.
Thrilling and audacious.
Archer is a master at his craft. I am glad that there is obviously a #7 planned for this series. I will be one of the first in line for a copy.

Whether it's his own career in politics, his passionate interest in art, or the wealth of fascinating background detail - inspired by the extraordinary network of friends he has built over a lifetime at the heart of Britain's establishment - his novels provide a fascinating glimpse into a range of closed worlds.
A member of the House of Lords, the author is married to Dame Mary Archer. They have two sons, two granddaughters, and three grandsons. He splits his time between London, Grantchester in Cambridge, and Mallorca, where he writes the first draft of each novel.
DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Harper Collins UK, Harper Fiction, vis NetGalley for providing a digital ARC of Traitors Gate by Jeffrey Archer for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.
Another standard Jeffery Archer book the latest in the William Warwick series. It is the standard fare which will delight the legions of his fans and provide a good holiday read for many.
The sorry revolves around a plot to steal the crown jewels and at the same time disgrace Warwick and moves along at a good pace although for this reader the characters are too stylised and lack any real depth.
That being said it remains a very readable book providing light entertainment perhaps while lying on a sunbed.
The master of intrigue, I was so looking forward to reading his new novel and am so grateful to have access.
Good old detective romp. Set in the 1990's around the Royal family, the crown jewels and the Police force with their family life coming into the story. The police get their man and the bad guys go to prison. Page turner.
This book is like a rollercoaster ride – you won't want to get off! I certainly didn't and devoured this in under 24 hours.
Archer brings his A-game with characters who feel real and a plot that keeps you guessing at every turn.
Archer's got a knack for understanding the dirty game of revenge, and he doesn't hold back. The twists and turns in the plot keep you hooked, and you'll find yourself racing through the pages to see what happens next.
Whilst the book has some complex twists, the writing is still incredibly easy to get into.
In short, if you're into suspense, drama, and a bit of political insight served up in an engaging way, Archer's latest is a must-read! However, this is book 6 in the series, and I would strongly recommend reading them in sequence in order to understand the complexities of some of the characters and their motivations.
An OK JA story, but nowhere near as good as his early works and too many coincidences and narrow escapes for me, along with a plot (and denouement) that just doesn't feel credible.
