The good thing about a series of books is that the main characters are like old friends and it makes it very easy to get into the story. And of course Archer is a wonderful story teller! Fast paced and full of suspense. Well researched with lots of interesting facts too. A most enjoyable read

I have loved Jeffrey Archer's books since reading Kane and Abel when I was younger. However, I have to admit that I was disappointed with this one. I half-wonder if someone else wrote it on his behalf as his language style felt different and not as proficient. For example, "hung, drawn and quartered" was used both literally and figuratively and the POV changed around a lot, even mid chapter. I liked the background history around Colonel Blood but did feel that this was used to pad out the story. I felt the tension ramped up slightly when Ross was accused of influencing a juror and I quite enjoyed the courtroom drama subplot but I never got fully invested in the characters. I never felt a true sense of suspense and, when the Crown Jewels were stolen, Miles' scheme was worked out and their recovery was made much too quickly. Nothing in the plot ever truly caught me by surprise, the narrative felt a little too formulaic and the prose was often unimaginative, lacked any emotive description and sometimes felt rushed (just getting the words and the story down without trying to captivate the reader more). I also felt that setting it back in time to when Tony Blair was about to win the election was a bit lazy (of course, Jeffrey Archer would have extensive knowledge of the politics back then but it meant he did not have to do any research). It also made me feel like the book was not "new" in any true sense and had nothing fresh or exciting to bring to the table. I am thankful to have received the book on NetGalley but, if this is the best Mr Archer can manage these days, then I'm afraid it hasn't inspired me to read any more of his books.

Utterly brilliant. Jeffrey Archer at his very best in the latest instalment of DCI Warwick. Great characters, wonderful story, raced through it. Perfect for relaxing on the sofa or beach.

This book was surprisingly good. I’ve read a few books in the William Warwick series and find them all right, but this book changed that. I enjoyed the book and the plot (which I thought was great). The interactions between the characters, the twists and turns kept me engaged from start to end. Definitely recommended and am now looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you HarperCollins UK for an advanced copy of this ebook and giving me a chance to review this book!

Thanks to NetGalley this is my first Jeffrey Archer book in years. Don't know why I stopped reading them but he certainly doesn't disappoint with Traitors Gate. Book Number 6 in the William Warwick Series but it really doesn't matter. A thoroughly enjoyable 5 star read.

Oh how much I love these books, and I feel like this is the strongest yet. I love the familiarity of characters I know, particularly William, Beth, Ross and the children, and the cleverness of the story interwoven with Colonel Blood’s story. Genius!
I thought the concept of the novel and Miles looking for revenge was great, and the elaborate planning of their heist and then reading about it in real time, along with the golden hour afterwards- it was just incredible. With each page of the last quarter of the book I felt genuinely sad that I was nearing the end but equally I couldn’t put it down and slow the inevitable because it was just toooooo good! Now a long wait until the next instalment!

This book is a stand-alone but continues with the Mikes Faulkner saga. It is quite a slow paced book with not much momentum - quite a predictable storyline and not as exciting as some of the author’s previous books. Nevertheless an enjoyable read.

I had high hopes but I found this to be rather tedious and couldn't really get into it. To be fair I wonder if I'm not the target demographic for Jeffrey Archer.

I was so excited to get an early copy of Traitor’s Gate and it lived up to every expectation. There’s no doubt that Archer is a genius storyteller. He has honed his craft to perfection and for sheer escapism, he’s difficult to beat. This is the seventh book in the series about Warwick, so there’s character development as the stories are told in ‘real time’. There’s a recurring cast of characters and whilst this works as a standalone, the books deserve to be read in order to fully understand all the nuances of the relationships and how the characters are influenced and interact.

This, for me, is the strongest of the series. It’s hold your breath tension as action ramps up to steal the Crown Jewels. Warwick is head of the Royal Protection group and central to ensuring the royal crown and sword are delivered safely for the State Opening of Parliament. The research is detailed and meticulous and in the latter part of the book where an hour is counted down, almost minute by minute, I found my heart was literally racing with excitement. Woven into the tale is the story of an earlier attempt by Captain Blood to steal the Jewels and I enjoyed this historic account. Ross Hogan, Warwick’s sidekick, develops a romantic interest and just when his life seems to be taking an upward turn, he finds himself accused of a major crime and is suspended. It’s gripping stuff and Archer barely wastes a word.

I spent years avoiding everything written by Archer because I had little regard for the man or his politics. But I was wrong; I’ve grown to respect him as an individual after reading the prison diaries and as a novelist he’s accomplished and every book has plausibility that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. Absolutely love this series and my greatest disappointment will be that the next, I believe, is planned to be the last. Simply brilliant.

I’m a huge fan of Jeffrey Archer’s William Warwick series of books.

Traitors Gate is the sixth in the series and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I found myself quite literally on the edge of my seat reading this book as it’s so fast-paced and exciting.

Once again Chief Superintendent William Warwick’s nemesis, Miles Faulkner, is up to his old criminal tricks and in the process trying to take down Warwick. All the usual suspects support Faulkner with his criminal activities - his butler Collins, his lawyer Watson Booth QC, and the dirty cop Lamont.

I know I probably shouldn’t enjoy these ‘baddie’ characters, but I’m constantly surprised by the ever conniving Booth Watson who serves his master and also himself. Miles Faulkner is a man who certainly holds a grudge and I’m always amazed at the lengths he will go to make anyone who crosses him pay.

Whilst the premise of Faulkner and his gang carrying out the heist of the century and stealing the Crown Jewels from The Tower of London is far-fetched - it was certainly a great fun and fast-paced read!

I can’t wait for the next William Warwick book in the series and can’t wait to see what Miles Faulkner has planned for Warwick!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's been a long time since I read anything by Jeffrey Archer but I'll definitely be back for more. This thrilller kept me on the edge of my seat, especially since I had just returned from a long weekend in London and recognised the locations mentioned in the book. Highly recommended, I couldn't put this down until I'd finished.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Is it accurate? I don’t know but it certainly is convincing! What it also offers is wonderful escapism into one of the monarch and their governments most ancient traditions. Fabulous.

An easy, light read. Quite an intricate plot if stretching the imagination to its full.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.

Another fantastic book. I was gripped from the very first page and really was reluctant to put it down at bedtime. A cleverly written story, with a captivating plot, I have been looking forward to this book and I wasn't disappointed.

Someone once said to me that when you first read a book by an author you should not pay too much attention to the authors name but read the book and make up your own mind, before reading any more by the same author. I did this with a Jeffrey Archer book and have now read everything he has written and have loved them all. He writes as if he is a hypnotist as once you start you cannot put the book down,

This time we follow William, Ross and the other familiars whilst they are escorting the Imperial Crown from the Tower of London to Buckingham Palace. I just love how Miles always comes up with schemes that get crazier in every book and how the writing is just so good that you have to keep reading until you find out if he has succeeded or not. You will need to have read the others in this series for a lot of what happens to make sense but if you do you are in for an amazing ride.

This is a definite must read. Jeffrey Archer is the greatest storyteller of our age and has the ability to almost hypnotise you with his writing.

Please Buy, you will not regret it

Would say that this is standard Archer fare. It has a fast moving plot, interlinking characters, suspension of disbelief and numerous rug pulls. Particularly enjoyed the Scooby Doo ending…

What can I say? Another winner from Archer. This is another book in the series involving Warwick and Hogan. However, even if you haven't heard of them before, you will enjoy each book as a stand alone read as they are cleverly written to please either way. This book is a totally unrealistic heist by Faulkner, the arch enemy of Warwick. Great fun, a wonderful read and of course, the goodies win out in the end....Please can we have more!

Loved this book. Jeffrey Archer is such a master storyteller I rushed to read it but didn’t want to finish it as I could have gone on reading. I love the William Warwick series, this one has a very strong storyline with some exceptional cunning planning both in New York and London. It really made me think about how the Crown Jewels move around for various ceremonies. Not sure if it was factually based but that is irrelevant as the story is so well constructed. The characters have been masterfully playing each other throughout the series, and, although this could be read as a stand alone, I would strongly advise any potential reader that hasn’t read any others to read the series in order for maximum enjoyment
