Another entertaining chapter in the William Warwick series this time finds a plot to steal the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London. His arch enemy Miles Faulkner is after revenge against Warwick and colleague and friend Ross Hogan with a dastardly scheme to discredit both them and the Hawk their boss. Full of clever detail the author still manages to amuse and entertain in this good yarn.

Fantastic, thrilling Accelerando.

I do not how the author does it, this novel grips you slowly and then tension and pace accelerate.

Unputdownable and thrilling are overused but these adjectives are appropriate to this book. Thank you, I've enjoyed all the books in the series hitherto and can't wait for the next installment!

Another enjoyable book from Archer. William Warwick is again pitting his wits against Miles Faulkner and his QC Booth Watson. As it's the sixth in the series, I would recommend reading the previous books first to get the full enjoyment.

Another exciting instalment in the William Warwick series.

It had excellent detail and expert storytelling. I really enjoyed immersing myself in the book and can't wait to see if there will be another.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

As always Jeffrey Archer gives a fantastic tale featuring William Warwick. The crown jewels are used each year at the state opening of parliament and this gives an ideal opportunity to steal them! Another masterpiece thoroughly enjoyable.

The Tower of London: the impenetrable home of the Crown Jewels. Once a year the precious cargo is transported across London by Scotland Yard’s finest. For decades, it has gone without a hitch…until this year.

One master criminal has set his sights on the heist of the century. Will he achieve the unachievable. Or can William and his team stop him in his tracks.

My reviews on Archer’s books are becoming repetitive, but I can’t say any more than I always do. Master storyteller. The plot is a web he weaves absolutely faultlessly, and how he manages to keep a hold of all the strands is incredible. Another fantastic instalment in the series. Highly recommend…but start at the beginning!

A rip roaring yarn from a popular writer. Having not read the rest of this series I suppose I missed the background on the main characters - both those on the wrong side and the right side of the law.
Fast-moving and amusing, cleverly crafted.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Jeffrey Archer/HarperCollins UK for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

A Crowning Success.

Superintendent William Warwick, now second in command of the Royal Protection Squad, returns for a further outing - this the sixth book in the series - and this story starts with him accompanying from the Tower of London to Buckingham Palace the Sword of State and the the Imperial State Crown for the opening of parliament.

Miles Faulkner, having served his prison sentence and then spent some time keeping his head down in New York, has now returned to London and is seeking revenge on Warwick, Commander Hawkesby and Inspector Ross Hogan, who were responsible for his enforced incarceration.

William’s wife, having for several years made a good living, in partnership with Christine, Faulkner’s ex-wife, is offered the position of Director of the Fitzmoleum Museum. She soon discovers that a valuable painting donated to the museum and donated to it but Faulkner to ensure a reduced jail sentence, is not what it should be, so takes steps to rectify the situation. Thus Faulkner’s desire for revenge is greatly increased.

Many of the characters from previous books in this series reappear in this fast paced and entertaining episode, including, of course Faulkner’s barrister, Booth Watson QC.

Jeffrey Archer writes in a simple style, but it has to be said that his complex plots are well thought out, the stories are presented in such a way that the reader is interested in the various story lines, and the development of the plot always ensures that the reader will want more….. as I suspect there will be.

I read this book from a pre-publication copy kindly supplied by the publisher, but this is an honest review with no concession to their generosity.

This is the sixth in the William Warwick series but reads well as a standalone.

It’s 1997, a general election is on the horizon & Warwick’s twins are writing an essay on Colonel Blood. You’d think these two events are unconnected but you’d be wrong. Miles Faulkner, an ex-con, is determined to get revenge on the three police officers who put him in prison. Especially when two of them outwit him over a Rubens painting. Cue a brilliant, convoluted plan to steal the Crown Jewels with the help of an obliging inside man.

I really enjoyed this book. A pacy read which had so many threads I wasn’t sure how they would all pull together but then Mr Archer is a master storyteller so I needn’t have worried. There were some nice little nods to his early books & birthplace too - IYKYK. Thoroughly recommended.

Jeffery Archer does it again.
Traitors Gate is the latest instalment of the William Warwick detective series. In this story it seems like the biggest heist of all time is about to happen. The British Crown Jewels, the most securely protected items in the world are in danger of being stolen. Each year the reigning Monarch of the United Kingdom wears the jewels at the State opening of Parliament. This year however the jewels are in jeopardy.
This is edge of the seat stuff. Our hero Warwick definitely has his work cut out for him here. His arch nemesis Miles Faulkner is determined to bring Warwick down. Will he succeed? Or, will our hero manage to outsmart this master criminal? A page turner that will keep you guessing.
Many thanks to #NetGalley for my copy of this book. For me it’s a definite 5⭐️story.

This is the sixth book in the Detective Warwick series but can easily be read as a stand alone.
It's a book that only Archer could have written.
The Tower of London, And the wealthy fraudster Miles Faulkner has been released from prison and boy does he want to pull of the perfect historical jewel robbery ever known.
But that's not the only thing on Faulkner's mind he also wants to take down Detective Warwick with him!
Can Warwick intercept Faulkner before it's to late?
Like most of this series, it's fast paced and an easy read with brilliant characters.

In TRAITORS GATE, we return to our old friend William Warwick. It's the 6th book in this series but could easily be read as a stand alone. Chief Superintendant William Warwick and his Scotland Yard team is tasked to protect the Crown Jewels while being worn by the Queen during the opening of Parliment. Miles Faulkner considers Warwick his greatest foe. As a master criminal, he has tangled with Warwick on many occasions....see previous books.....and always come up the loser. Each man has an ironclad set of standards, whether law enforcement or criminal, and constantly find themselves on opposite sides of the same crime scene. But this year's plans maybe the first where Faulkner gets away with the goods.
Jeffrey Archer is a prolific author of fiction, mystery, police procedurals and even nonfiction. His series are read by millions, including me. If you have not read any of his back library, I see many binge reads in your future. Pick any book and start, you won't be sorry.

The Tower of London is impenetrable, well protected & secure. Home to the most valuable jewels on earth. Once a year, the Metropolitan Police must execute the most secret operation in their armoury when they transport the Crown Jewels across London. For four years, Chief Superindendent William Warwick, together with his second-in-command Inspector Ross Hogan,, has been in charge of the operation. And for four years it’s run like clockwork. But this year, everything is about to change. Because master criminal Miles Faulkner has set his heart on pulling off the most outrageous theft in history – and with a man on the inside, the odds are in his favour.
The sixth book in the series & another riveting, engrossing read. I love the way this master storyteller draws you in. The characters whether you love them or hate them are well portrayed. The pace flows effortlessly & there are twists & turns you don’t see coming. The research is very good & there’s insights into not only the Tower of London but Parliament as well. Another masterful tale from the master
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Master storyteller Jeffrey Archer is back with the latest instalment of the William Warwick series. This is my absolute favourite novel in the series so far.

Now Superintendent at the London Metropolitan Police, William Warwick is contacted by an old FBI friend in New York City, who believes criminal Miles Faulkner has hidden a misappropriated painting in a luxury NYC apartment, which is supposed to hang in the Fitzmolean Museum. Beth, now a successful art dealer, gets involved in an elaborate plot to reacquire this painting.
Gangster-in-chief Miles Faulkner has always been a cunning and skilled criminal, but this time he has planned a mega heist unheard-of for centuries. Faulkner’s heist, if successful, would shake the nation to its core: he plans to steal the crown jewels! And with the help of an insider, he might actually succeed.
We also encounter all the other, well-known characters, such as Miles Faulkner’s lawyer, Booth Watson, who gets into a court battle with William’s sister Grace and father Sir Julian.
Connecting and intertwining the actual heist with the story of the historical figure Captain Thomas Blood, who successfully stole the Crown Jewels, is ingenious. I particularly liked the numerous unexpected plot twists, such as suddenly finding out that inspector Warwick and his wife are not the law abiding people I always imagined them to be.

The brilliant and intricately weaved plot is fast moving and the plan for the heist is very complex and well-researched.
We should call ourselves lucky that Jeffrey Archer has chosen to use his extensive gift for writing fiction and to not pursue his clear gift for planning elaborate heists.
If this is your first book in the William Warwick series, hurry and buy all previous books and settle in for some quality reading time.

Chief Superintendent William Warwick’s sixth adventure, Traitors Gate by Jeffrey Archer, pits him – yet again – against his devious archenemy, Miles Faulkner, aided by his equally sneaky lawyer, Booth Watson, as the former attempts to exact revenge for his previous defeats at the hands of the detective and his associates.

Having been away for years – a few in prison and the next few running his scams in the USA – Miles is homesick and wants to settle back in England, but only after putting his adversaries in law enforcement out of commission. His thirst for vengeance is stoked further when he suffers a setback at the hands of his foes immediately upon his return home. Not much later, though, Miles gets a chance to realise his dream when an unlikely ally approaches him with an ingenious proposal to steal the British Crown Jewels from under the noses of William and his team, thereby destroying all his enemies in a single stroke. Prepared to go to any extreme to humiliate the police department, Miles assembles his team of crooks and puts in place a clockwork plan that would get into his hands the most precious treasures in the nation, with the intended victims of the scheme entirely in the dark. What ensues is a game of moves and countermoves, the matching of wits of the wiliest criminal minds in the country with the most resourceful in law enforcement, and the scales seem to be tipping towards the villains’ side.

Archer once again spins a fine yarn set in the London of the nineties that is charming and captivating. Most of the cast are known to the readers and are already well-developed, enabling the story to take off immediately. The plot, with double- and triple-crosses and several twists – a few surprising and others barely so – written in the simple, flowing prose of the master storyteller, is enjoyable. The main plot is complemented by several asides – amusing for the most part – involving the families and associates of the main characters. In addition to the authentic descriptions of the period in which the story takes place, the history of the Crown Jewels and the infamous Colonel Blood makes for informative reading. While Archer keeps the reader entertained all along, one could not help feeling that the novel lacks in heft somewhat. The characters, while interesting, are not very relatable, and their troubles and concerns do not evoke much sympathy. Also, the rules and formalities connected to the royalty – depicted realistically by Archer – feel excessive. In an era when authors keep outdoing themselves with intricate mysteries, multilayered characters, and nonlinear narratives, Archer’s recent novels, including this one, feel dated and formulaic – comfort reads that may not grip the demanding reader.

While I will not deny that I had fun reading Traitors Gate, I wish Archer would move away from such dated plots and give his fans something that does justice to his supreme prowess.

My gratitude to HarperCollins UK for the Digital Review Copy of Traitors Gate in exchange for my unbiased review through NetGalley!

The wait was finally over, to read and review the new Jeffrey Archer offering. Some interesting characters, but well written and very enjoyable. Thank you for the ARC.

Wow, what a lot of history of the Tower of London packed into this blockbuster of a book Traitors Gate by Jeffery Archer.

Can William Warwick win again or will Miles Faulkner and his QC Booth Watson, finally got the better of him?

As with the rest of Archer's books a thoroughly well written and researched book. Some of the story seems a little unreal, but I think that adds to the fun of the book. I also love the way he beings in real life historical events in to make them more believable.

This is the sixth book in the William Warwick series and I'm guessing there may be one more to come, as its kind of a spin off from the Clifton Chronicles series Archer wrote previously that gets the occasional mention. However saying that, Traitors Gate can easily be read as a one off, but if you do, I'm sure you'll want to read the rest too.

All the usual characters play their part and I'll be looking forward to reading more in this series and anything else that this very gifted author writes.

I'm also surprised that more of his books haven't been made into tv shows or movies as they would be very entertaining and this book and the William Warwick series would make a great multi part BBC TV drama and would bring many more readers flocking his way.

A big thanks to HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for the fantastic advance copy for review.

Compelling Story.
William Warwick’s arch nemesis is furious when a valuable possession is taken from him and his lawyer says he can do nothing about it. He is determined to take his revenge with an outrageous heist that will see William and his friends disgraced and possibly imprisoned. Loved it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Not knowing the Captain Blood story in detail, I found myself educated in the history of the British Monarch’s crown jewels and a previous attempt to steal them from the Tower of London. The Tower and the info about the ravens I did know from my thoroughly enjoyable visit there, but it's nicely portrayed here for those not in the know. It's the consistency of Archer’s storytelling that shines through yet again. During the last hour or so of the book I found myself turning pages quicker that I could read them because I needed to move on as fast as possible to find out how they might solve the many issues involved in losing the crown jewels. As always, this writer's ability to spin a story that is so easily readable and yet, plausible, is why I know I will read all of his books released in the future. This set of characters, from William Warwick and Ross Hogan on the good side - with Myles Falconer and the most appalling yet clever barrister, Booth on the other, persist to be totally believable and it is inevitable that this series of books will eventually become films. I look forward to the next in this series having been educated, entertained and baffled to how this story would end. Being used to the king for the past year, it was strange that QE2 played such a pivotal role in the story, but once you know why, you'll know why.
