I am always a big fan of the William Warwick series but I have to say I would prefer it if he could just keep Faulkner behind bars now for the rest of time, as I feel his time as a character is now up! As is that of his ex wife...

There were some elements to this story that seemed a rehash of previous installments - is anyone REALLY as terrible as Miles Faulkner, or is anyone REALLY as two faced as his money grabbing ex wife?

Fortunately.... this irritation was vastly outweighed by the brilliant story running through the book -an audacious plot to steal the crown jewels and embarrass Warwick out of a job - I thought the story line was outstanding and didn't actually need the other complications of stolen paintings. forgeries etc. I was gripped by the plot and couldn't put it down -for that reason it's a solid 4.5 stars from me!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

When I started reading this I thought it was an older one of his books as because of the subject matter it felt quite dated.

I only read about 1/3 of the book and didn’t finish. I’ve really enjoyed some of his previous works but this one is just not for me.

I have read all of Jeffrey Archers books, and I must admit I prefer his earlier ones. I cannot seem to connect to William Warwick as well as all his past characters. Still a good read.

Jeffrey Archer is a household name for a reason. This is the first book of his that I have read and it is the 6th in a season. The pacing is good and I loved the setting. A very good read and a very good author. I will be seeking out more of his books in the future.

3.5 stars rounded up.

How do you destroy the reputation of a senior police officer? Carry out an impossible crime under his nose and then show the world how he messed up. Chief Superintendent William Warwick has previously foiled, arrested, and jailed Miles Faulkner, although the latter has somehow clung to his vast fortune and now, released from prison, is again exulting in it. He is particularly proud of a con he perpetrated on Warwick’s wife, Beth, which has gone undetected. That is until Warwick, supported by Inspector Ross Hogan, his number two, solves that mystery, leaving Faulkner, in material terms, poorer by millions and determined to ruin Warwick and Hogan and as many others on their team as possible. Pondering on how to accomplish this, while keeping his own hands clean, a proposition is brought to him by a minor member of the Royal Household. Would it be possible to steal the Crown Jewels from inside the Tower of London, where they reside permanently under the watchful eye of the Resident Governor and an army of Yeoman Warders? Nearly four hundred years ago, Colonel Blood, had nearly succeeded in doing this, although he was swiftly caught, but since then security had been stepped up to such an extent that no one had tried. However, although I said ‘permanently’ above, that isn’t quite true. For the Annual State Opening of Parliament, the Queen (the story is set in 1997) must wear the Crown and carry the Sword, and that means they have to be transported to Buckingham Palace, used in the ceremony, and then taken back to the Tower. It is Warwick’s responsibility to conduct these transfers. Faulkner starts to devise a foolproof heist!
Once again Archer has produced a complex, but not complicated, tale, beautifully crafted to effortlessly lead the reader to a satisfying end. There are no inexplicable coincidences, no deus ex machina excuses, just the smooth unrolling of an entertaining story. The story is firmly in the Heist category, with detailed and meticulous planning and a flawless execution. Often in such stories there is an element of implausibility, but here the events are so perfectly described that it feels real, as if the reader is watching a perfect riffle shuffle. Along the way, we learn a lot about the history of the Tower and the Jewels, about the world of Art and Galleries, but mainly we learn about Warwick and his family and his team, all well realised and believable. All of Faulkner’s usual team are also on Parade: Collins his ‘assistant’, ex Superintendent Lamont, and Booth Watson QC. This is a great series and, it seems to me, becoming better with each outing.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review.

A convoluted, breath taking revenge thriller.
This is apparently the sixth book in a series and I've not read any of the others, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment of this one. Several of the characters 'have history's with each other and there is fiendishly to extract revenge.
The story moves along in Jeffrey Archer's typical rapid style whilst filing in lots of background details that really held my interest to the end. It practically demands that you turn the next page.
I was a little confused about when exactly the book was set, but various references such as Princess Diana, Concorde and Tony Blair becoming Prime Minister explained the situation..
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to people, in fact I already have.

I read 'Next in Line' this time last year and I must admit after reading 10% of this I had to go back and check it wasn't the same book that I'd read before - same heroes, same villain. After a quick check that this was just the next one in the series I braced myself in and got wound up in the crown jewels heist that followed. Jeffrey Archer has always produced very readable books and this is no exception whether you're new to the series or not.
An enjoyable story followed. Not one that will live long in the memory but enjoyable nonetheless. My only criticism is that the style is rather dated - this is a book that reads as if it could have been written twenty, thirty, even forty years ago. But it's a winning formula so why not stick to it!?

Many thanks for the ARC.

A typical rollicking Archer yarn. Goodies v baddies. Goodies win. Entertaining and enjoyable. If you're an Archer fan, you won't want to miss it. If. not, this one probably won't convert you. Thanks to Harper Collins and Netgalley for an advance review copy.

Fabulous novel by Jeffery Archer and the 6th book in the Warwick series.

Who wouldn’t be captivated by the theft of the Crown Jewels? Can Warwick outsmart his nemesis and protect his good name?

Fabulous book and a great and highly recommended read.

This is the sixth book in the Detective William Warwick series by author Jeffrey Archer. I have enjoyed this series from the start with its excellent characters and masterful storytelling.

The latest novel “Traitor’s Gate” is a race against time to stop the crime of the century. The novel is full of intrigue and suspense and against the backdrop of the Tower of London. As always Jeffrey Archer keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with masterful storytelling.

Master criminal Miles Faulkner is about to attempt the crime of the century by stealing the Crown Jewels and Chief Superintendent William Warwick faces a race against time to thwart him.

The tension builds throughout the novel and is an exciting read.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Harper Collins for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I've been a fan of this author since his very first novel, and his work just keeps getting better and better . . .

Sergeant William Warwick along with Inspector Ross Hogan have been responsible for transporting the crown jewels across London for the opening of Parliament for four years now - and it always goes like clockwork. However, they have made an enemy of master criminal Miles Faulkner who wants, more than anything, to discredit them - and what better way than stealing the crown and sword from right under their noses? That would stop their rising careers in their tracks - surely?

I love this series; each and every book is packed with information from beginning to end. Following the careers of both William Warwick and his wife Beth along with their family would be a story in itself plus there is the added excitement of Miles Faulkner and his determination to wreck everything they hold dear. This is a tense, pulse-pounding read and one which kept me reading into the wee small hours, long after I should have been in the land of nod. This is a series I'm very happy to highly recommend and it's so much better to read in order. I look forward to each and every novel so much, and they have never fallen short of a full five stars!

My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.

Typical storytelling from Jeffrey Archer. The story rattled along and kept the reader wanting more. A must for Archer fans.

Traitor's Gate is Jeffrey Archers latest novel in the Chief Superindendent William Warwick series.
Warwick effects the return of a painting from America to its rightful place in a London gallery but in so doing really upsets his arch felon Miles Faulkner. Faulkner who seems to have unlimited funds, wants to exact revenge on Warwick by stealing the crown jewels, the very jewels Warwick is charged with keeping secure whilst they are whisked from The Tower to Buckingham Palace for the Queen's speech.
It's an easy read, fast paced, jolly jape themed novel. There's a parallel story which is told by Warwick's children researching Captain Blood, the likeness with the modern day heist doesn't go unnoticed. I enjoyed the book and for entertainment level only, I will score it five stars.

Another great read from the master storyteller, Jeffrey Archer. This is a standalone book, but I think your enjoyment will be enhanced if you’ve read the earlier books in the series. The story was fast, paced with plenty of the usual twists and turns along the way. Highly recommended.

I have read most of Geoffrey’s books over the years, my first being “Not a Penny more, not a penny less” and this started me off with one of the greatest authors who has ever written successful novels.

His writing is superb, the attention to detail and his research into whatever he’s writing about is just wonderful. This book has got to be the most entertaining book I’ve read in a long time. Everything is done to perfection and it’s no wonder he’s sold in excess of 275 million books!

I have read the others in the Warwick series, but this can be read as a stand alone as there is enough information for a new reader to pick up the characters.

I’m not going into detail about the book as I don’t want to spoil it for the readers, because the synopsis tells you what it’s about, just read it and you won’t be disappointed.

I’m sorry that it has come to an end, but hopefully there’s another one of the series in the pipeline.

My thanks to the author, Netgalley and Harper & Collins for the ARC.

An enjoyable book but really rather dated both I the way it was written and the style of the story. Still can’t stop reading his books!

The masterful story-teller hits the right notes yet again. I was drawn in instantly to the most daring heist imaginable . Quick thinking on the part of William Warwick and his team avert the duplicity of his arch enemy Miles Faulkner

This is my first book by Jeffrey Archer and it did not disappoint. The characters were great, plot was brilliant and the writing was superb. .

Although this is part of a series I think it can be read as a standalone too.

Will absolutely be reading more from this author.

I love the William Warwick series of books and this one doesn't disappoint. As usual Miles Faulkner is up to no good and has his sights set on bringing Warwick, the Hawk and Hogan down. This time it's a game of intense skill and timing which involves stealing the crown jewels right from under Warwicks nose! What he hasn't anticipated is how skilful Warwicks team are and just how much they will pull together to solve cases. Who will be Th he winner this time? Will Faulkner get what he wants and get them all to resign or will he end up back in prison for treason?

Archer is a wizard with his words, such a master and I am highly anticipating and so excited to read the next Warwick instalment.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this. Will be highly recommending to everyone I know.

Like many Jeffrey Archer books you have to believe that no matter how clever the villains are, good will eventually triumph but go along for the ride, suspend some disbelief that these things could possible happen and you're in for a pretty enjoyable read.

I hadn't read any of the previous books but didn't feel at a loss because of this as whilst some knowledge of previous interactions between the characters may have helped a tad, it didn't prevent enjoyment overall.

Fast paced, well written and enjoyable.
