"The Island" is a great destination mystery. It's set in a newly open (or actually about to be open) luxury resort in Maldives. The first guests are a mixture of journalists and influencers. Of course, they were invited there to tell the world about all the good things the holiday paradise has to offer. Unfortunately, not all of them will live to tell the tale. What's even worse, they can't even post about it on their social media as there's a tiny problem with the wifi. For me, that's already pretty dramatic but that's obviously not the main "attraction". Nothing makes your holidays more unforgettable than the dead body of your neighbour. Especially when you're on an island, with no internet connection, phones are not working, bad weather makes it impossible to get out and one of your buddies is a murderer.
Cathrine Cooper is known for fast-paced, gripping thrillers set in wonderful holiday destinations. I really enjoyed "The Island" as it was a perfect mixture of a light summer read and a dark, twisty thriller. It was a pleasant experience and if you enjoyed the author's previous books you'll definitely like this one. It's pretty detailed but not in a bad way. I liked the descriptions of the surroundings and also the food. I love it when I can feel all the vibes described in the book.
Overall, great read so get your hands on the book ASAP.

WOW! Is the first word that comes to mind after reading this book! I devoured this gripping new thriller within 24 hours! I was hooked from the very beginning. Although this book was written with multiple POV along with a dual timeline it was really easy to follow and understand what was happeneing. I really enjoyed that the characters in this book were so current and relevant (social media influncers), it really made the book have a modern, up-to-date feel to it. The description within the book was excellent and I felt like I was on the island with them all! This is the first book I have read from @catherinecooperjournalist but I will definitely be picking up her other books now!

We've had The Chalet, The Chateau, The Cruise and now The Island. A slow burner that speeds up as the pages turn.
The Island sounds beautiful and picturesque and sounds like a dream, or in this case a nightmare.
As with all of Catherine's books, there comes a point in the book where I think "yes I've got this, I know who has done it" and then I'm proven wrong.
Another fantastic read from Catherine and I can't wait to see what comes next.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The story revolves around a group of carefully selected influencers invited to a luxurious Maldivian island resort. The trip, intended as a perfect opportunity to experience and document all the resort has to offer, turns into a suspenseful thriller as the island is hit by a storm, cutting off all access to the outside world. As the storm intensifies, it becomes apparent that something sinister is happening.
The individual worth of each character enriched the plot. Nevertheless, it was not until Cooper's conclusion that their interconnection became apparent. I found the plot to be intriguing and engaging. I enjoyed how the author cleverly crafted the story, gradually revealing the intricate web of deceit and secrets among the characters. The vivid and descriptive narration made me feel like I was part of the group, experiencing the island and the storm along with them. Due to the excellent writing style, I could read this within 24 hours.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates a well-written, thrilling mystery. It's a great read that keeps you hooked until the very end, and even if you think you know what's coming, the journey is still worth it.

This was okay, I didn’t enjoy this as much as her previous book but it still had some good points.
I liked the story being told in the now and also in flashbacks. Also loved the setting how could you not!
The characters however were annoying and slightly underwhelming. I just felt like part of the story never really took off like it need to be more thriller or more melodrama it just stalled between the two.
Thanks to NetGalley for this arc.

Thanks first must go to Netgalley, the publisher and Catherine Cooper for the ARC of ‘The Island’.
Having read a few of Catherine’s books I was very excited to be granted early access to this one. It certainly didn’t disappoint.
With a picturesque and ‘locked in’ setting and the dual timeline story reveals the twists and turns were plenty.
Kept me gripped until the very end. Highly recommended med and brilliantly paced.

The Island
Catherine Cooper
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This was a fairly quick and easy read. An intriguing look at how the rich and famous spend their free time - but is it all how it seems?
A group of influencers and journalists are invited to a new luxury island spot in the Maldives. With the promise of lavish meals, luxury facilities and butlers to see to your every need - who could refuse?
Assuming they were there to report their stay, things take a turn for the worst, when they're cut off by a freak storm and some of the guests start to die.
Having read another book by this author, I was a little more prepared to dislike our cast of characters. I mean, with this group too, all expecting to be waited on hand and foot, I was never going to love them.
But I think that this worked in this situation.
This was split up into two timelines - the present day on the island events and back to the 90's where we learn a little more about the owners of the resort.
It's pretty obvious that the events are connected and that this group had been picked out for this trip given the parts they played in the past. So then it was no huge shock when the reveal came.
But it was still a pretty fun read getting to this point.
This was not a really fast-paced read but it certainly built tension and intrigue and the short chapter lengths made me want to read on just that bit more each time.
The setting was just beautiful, but I'm still undecided on whether I'd like to visit or steer well clear!
💕Thank you to the author, publisher and random things tours for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

Having read her three previous books, Cooper has become an auto-buy author for me and my go to when I want an escapist thriller that I won’t want to put down. I’ve been to a ski chalet, a chateau and on a cruise in previous books and in her latest, The Island, I was transported to an exclusive Maldivian resort - the stuff of dreams just as the weather turns here in the UK. And once again Cooper didn’t disappoint and proves why she is a stand out author in the genre.
A group of influencers and journalists are invited on a press trip to a new luxury resort. What begins as an idyllic trip soon takes an unexpected turn - with the weather closing in and the island cut off, so begins a series of suspicious events that suggest more may be going on the trip than meets the eye.
The opening of the book makes it clear that revenge is on the menu! Told in dual timelines, we are taken back to the 1990s when the brother and sister who own the resort were teenagers. As we learn more about their past, so the timelines begin to weave together though there are plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing right to the end.
It’s the combination of a vividly evocative setting and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat that makes all of Cooper’s books such page turners - and once again she delivers in spades. They are perfect escapist thrillers - where will she take us next?

A group of influencers are invited to a luxurious hotel in the Maldives. It's so beautifully luxurious until a storm hits and people start dying. Is someone a murderer? To be honest I enjoyed the settings the most in this book and then the mystery WOW!! I was so totally not expecting that. The glorious weather and the beautiful blue water had me longing to be on this holiday and then the storm well that topped off the cake. I had no idea who to trust and was knocked off my seat by the twist.

I really, really love Catherine Cooper. I have read all of her novels and so when I saw she had a new one on #netgalley I didn't hesitate to request a copy. Thankfully I was accepted and I'm always honoured when I get to read an authors work through netgalley.
When a new 5 star luxurious eco resort opens with exclusive invites to influencers and journalists to capture the beauty of the resort it sounds like paradise. The descriptions of the resort are so beautifully described by the author I was really able to picture this in my mind and was thinking when I can go? But things quickly turn sour when a body is found and it turns into a whodunnit. Is there a killer within the group and is everyone who they say they are?
This book has two timeframes flashing back to the 1990s and then the present day in the Maldives and as the book goes on, the story starts to piece together. The writer has done a fab job of building the pace and suspense and as the chapters are short, I found I just wanted to keep reading on to see how the story developed. It's another page turner from Catherine. One I really enjoyed and would you look at how gorgeous that cover is.
Thank you to #netgalley and @catherinecooperjournalist

The Island is a psychological thriller by Catherine Cooper. I’ve read all of her previous thrillers and they are all superb reads. So when I started The Island I expected great things and I certainly wasn’t let down. Set in the beautiful Maldives this was a book that hooked me right from the very beginning.
The story is told in two timelines. 1990 and present day and both timelines were gripping and tense. The characters were all described so well and I really had no clue who to trust as they all seemed to be hiding something . I had no idea who was responsible for it all and I was left open mouthed when it was all finally revealed. Apart from the thrilling and at times tense read I adored reading about this fabulous Island and as for the descriptions of the difference foods. Oh my mouth was watering. This is another utterly brilliant read by Catherine Cooper . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had fun in reading this mystery set in a wonderful place and featuring a cast of mixed characters that you can love or hate.
Well plotted and entertaining.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I have read all of author Catherine Cooper's novels and loved them, so when this came up on Netgalley I jumped at the chance.
Probably not her best novel, but she has a lot to live up to with her novel The Chateau which in my opinion was her best novel so far.
Still a very enjoyable read. Catherine Cooper's writing is fabulous, easy to read and intriguing storylines.
We meet a fair amount of different characters in this novel, but it does not get too complicated and they are really easy to read about and enjoy them. I loved reading about Malia, who is new the world of blogging/influencer and thought she made a great character.
There is a huge storm and the island is cut off, then the bodies start turning up and they realise there must be a killer amongst them.
A great story from a brilliant author, I would recommend this novel to anyone and everyone who loves a fast-paced, easy to read novel.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is another great murder mystery set in a wonderful location- this time the Maldives. The tension mounts throughout the free trip for journalists and influences for the launch of the exclusive high-end resort, as more and more accidents happen. The characters are a mixture of relatable and unlikeable, which gives the book a good balance. After the twist at tge end all becomes clear! I couldn't put it down!

I loved this destination thriller from Catherine Cooper. I was gripped by the story from the start and read it super quickly in a couple of sittings. It has a fantastic setting in the luxurious Maldives with a brilliantly worked dual timeline and a cast of intriguing characters.
The plot has plenty of twists and turns and switches between past and present. Cooper does a great job of slowly bringing the timelines together and uncovering more secrets. The ending wraps everything up and provides more shocks. Overall a brilliant read.

The perfect escape, or the perfect trap?
When a select group of influencers and journalists receive an exclusive invitation to a luxury resort in the Maldives, it seems like the ultimate press trip.
But when the island is cut off during a storm and people start dying, it looks like someone has murder in mind. Are the guests really who they seem to be, or does each one of them have a secret to hide? Something they would kill for?
You know that I love a closed room thriller and this one was no exception. Catherine Cooper really knows how to write them!
When a book starts with the death of a young girl you know that revenge is going to be on the cards - what’s the saying? Revenge is a dish best served cold? Well this was certainly the case when 33 years later on a remote island in the Maldives people start dying.
This was a bit of a slow starter, although it didn’t take anything away from the story - I was just waiting for someone to die!
The twists can’t thick and fast at the end and I didn’t see any of them coming.
An enjoyable read; one you could easily get through in a day around the pool on your own remote holiday island.

I read my first Catherine Cooper book in 2021 when participating in the blog tour for The Chateau and fell in love with this author’s glamourous settings. I am reading one of her books every year. Last year I reviewed The Cruise and now I escaped with The Island. I have a copy of The Chalet sitting on my TBR pile which I need to make some time for soon.
If you are not familiar with the author, then you can expect a gripping thriller with an amazing setting. All her books transport you to beautiful destinations with amazing scenic descriptions that will leave you feeling that you visited these wonderful places. If you are looking for an escape read, then you won’t go wrong reaching for one of Catherine Cooper’s books.
The author successfully transports you to an island in the Maldives when you open this book. The story features two timelines 1990 and the present. Each chapter shares new information about the characters. The Island is an intriguing read about rich twins, their privileged lives and the impact their choices had on other people. While this book has a slow start, you will soon find yourself engrossed and unable to put it down.
Malia is an influencer, but she does not have an impressive following, yet. An exclusive invitation to a luxury resort in the Maldives would go a long way to increasing her followers. Malia is not sure how she got added to the guest list, but she plans on taking full advantage of this rare opportunity. But when the Wi-Fi goes down and people start dying, while a raging storm keeps everyone trapped on the island, Malia is eager to go home. The luxury of the hotel is not enough to make her feel safe.
This book brought the Maldives to me. I loved the detailed description of the food and food presentation. I was curiously turning the pages to find out what was coming next.
The characters in this story are full of surprises. Not all of them are good. I shared Malia's doubts about these people. Henry, the spoiled rich kid, who saw himself as better than everyone else, was a huge disappointment. The way he stood up for Ophelia when he knew she was not a nice person left him annoying me. As for Ophelia, how can anyone be that cold and selfish? Xander was so concerned with what Henry would think that he never considered how badly he treated Ashley. Sadly, he did not receive any sympathy from me. Claire made me smile with her constant diva comments. She added a lighter side to the story. Araminta was difficult to place, initially, she seemed to fall flat – it was as if she didn’t have a personality at all. That changed towards the end of the book. The only character I felt bad for was Ashley. She was innocent in this story.
This was yet another great read from Catherine Cooper. The graphic detail about the food left my mouth watering while turning the pages. Whether you are new to this author or not you will find her books to be a fabulous escape. If you are looking for a glamorous thriller that is full of surprises, then you will not want to miss this book. You should note that by the time you reach the end of this story, you might want to head to the Maldives to experience the amazing food and water sports.

I was absolutely thrilled to get my hands on this latest book from one of my favorite authors.
The premise had me hooked from the get-go: a group of social media stars and journalists are whisked away to a brand new resort for what they think will be the ultimate vacation. But as the days go by, strange things start happening and it becomes clear that someone - or something - is out to get them.
What I loved most about this book was the way the author seamlessly wove together different timelines and perspectives to create a truly gripping story. Every chapter left me wanting more, and I found myself racing through the pages to uncover the truth behind the mysterious events at the resort. And while the pace was definitely fast, the author still managed to build tension and suspense in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat. If you're looking for a thrilling mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

The start of this novel gives a ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ vibe.
Two timeframes, moving back and forth from 1990’s Uni days of a gang of friends and a tragic death to the present day Maldives where no one really seems to be who they say they are.
A new 5 star eco resort opens and invites a miscellaneous group of influencers and journalists to showcase there resorts amenities. A luxurious start for all involved soon develops into a case of whodunnit.
Unusually for Catherine coopers book this one does not begin with a ‘C’.
This is not my favourite Catherine Cooper book, but it is still an enjoyable read. As some one who has read all her books I would encourage anyone to give her a go!

I love books which go back and forth between different timelines and end up connecting brilliantly as the book goes on.. this was a perfect example of this type of storyline, I was engaged from the beginning and really enjoyed it xx
