I loved the differences in the authors' storytelling styles, and thought that the introduction, "What is a Witch?" by Jonathan Strahan was wonderful.
Great stories - nothing less than ***, twelve ****, and ten *****. Score overall: 4.10 for 29 stories.
My favourite stories were:
Witchfires by E Lily Yu;
Night Riding by Usman T Malik;
Just a Nudge by Maureen McHugh;
So Spake The Mirrorwitch by Premee Mohamed;
Nameless Here For Evermore by Fonda Lee;
Orphanage of the Last Breath by Saad Z Hossain;
I'm not really into poetry, but Seed of Power by Linda D Addison, and Escape Artists by Andrea Hairston were wonderful poems!
I chose an ARC of this anthology, which I voluntarily and honestly read and reviewed. All opinions are my own. My thanks to NetGalley, the publishers, the editor, and all the authors.

I love anthologies and witches so was super excited for this very inclusive selection of witchy tales.
Unfortunately, this book wasn't quite my cup of tea. Some of the individual stories were fantastic, but the pacing, style and tone varied a bit too much between chapters and it didn't feel like a cohesive collection to me, which made progress slow.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the advance reader copy.
I’ve come to realise I might not be as big a fan of these types of books; where it’s a lot of short stories and poems but from different authors.
Initially when I started I enjoyed the different tones and the stories, but found that quite a few didn’t have structure and didn’t feel finished.
Overall I think if you enjoy these styles of book, this is a good read for you.
The topic of witches within different cultures is interesting and also a great starting point for maybe continuing with a specific author.

A super selection of all things witch related. There are some big names who have contributed to this collection but all are worthy of inclusion.

The Book of Witches is a diverse short story collection about witches from around the world. There were 29 short stories/poems in this book. I wanted to read it because some of my favorite authors were there. It was such a lovely collection. My favorites were John Hollowback and the Witch by Amal El Mohtar, What I Remember of Oresha Moon Dragon Devshrata by P. Djeli Clark, and Witchfires by E. Lily Yu. Also, I found some authors that I wanted to read more. It is so hard for me to rate anthologies but overall I enjoyed it a lot. It is a chunky book but it is definitely worth reading.

A collection full of variety and boasting some of the best names in fantasy.
Authors I had read previously such as: Ken Liu, Fonda Lee, and Amal El-Mohtar deliver the quality I know they can deliver. But I also discovered, or dipped my toe, into a plethora of other authors that I've wanted to try, or knew nothing about. P Djeli. Clark, Tobi Ogundiran, Indrapramit Das, and Andrea Stewart shone for me and I can't wait to explore their work.
Thank you to Netgalley, Jonathan Strahan, and the Publisher for the e-ARC.
