I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Teddy's Midnight Adventure is an absolutely beautifully illustrated story in Japanese that has been translated to English. Firstly, I loved the colour palet chosen of black, grey, and white with splashes of red throughout.
The story follows a little girl called Akiko and her beloved Teddy bear. Teddy has lost his eye, and Akiko really wants to find it for him. That night, the moon is magical, and Akiko awakens to find she is the same size as her Teddy. They set out into the garden that is very different and mysterious now she is smaller and out there at night. I loved meeting the animals they interacted with to try and help Teddy, and the whole feel of the book was magical and endeering from start to finish. Definitely a must-read for any Teddy bear lovers young or old.

A little girl goes on a magical adventure to help her beloved teddy bear find his missing button eye.

The story is really well written and will appeal to children as well as the adults who read the book to them, but the true star of the book is the art; the luscious black and white illustrations are a wonder to behold, and the few bursts of color are used to excellent effect.

Received via NetGalley.

Akiko and her little Teddy went on a magical adventure to find Teddy's missing eye. The illustrations are stunning and they evoked my imagination of childhood. Moreover, I love the way they highlighted the red colour and give the story a misterious vibe.

Though I'm definitely not the target audience of this picture book as it is a short and simple story suitable for little children, I can still appreciate it especially for the partly oldschool art style which on the other hand is also quite modern because of the monochrome palette with red accents.
And as a fan of fungi I was delighted to see that the adventures actually took place through scenes with several different kinds of mushrooms.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing the ARC.

“Teddy‘s Midnight Adventure“ with story and art by Yoko Mori with translation by Cathy Hirano is a beautifully illustrated picture book about a young girl who'll do anything to help her teddy bear.

Akiko loves her teddy bear, named Teddy. One day while outside, Teddy loses an eye in the garden. That night Akiko shrinks down to size and she and Teddy explore the garden in the moonlight looking for Teddy’s missing eye. They discover a magical world.

This is a charming story about friendship and of not being afraid of the night. I loved the stunning illustration style. I think this would be a fun going to bed book.

When her stuffed bear loses an eye, Akiko wishes she could shrink down to Teddy's size, and go look for it. And, wouldn't you know it, that's exactly what happens. The two pals, now the same size, share an adventure in the garden while searching for the missing eye.

Mori's illustrations are unusual - dark and somewhat mysterious- compared to most children's books.

I found the read to be a little creepy, but hopefully children will be charmed.

When Teddy loses an eye, he and Akiko head off on a magical nighttime adventure to find it. This is an enchanting story for readers of all ages with a simple concept of hunting for something important with an added magical element. I loved how the illustrations were mainly shades of black, white and grey with the eye drawn to Akiko’s red outfit and some toadstools within the story. The language was simple for a child to follow but descriptive enough to build a clear picture of what was happening.

I loved the gentle feel of this book, and its sense of wonder. Akiko's teddy bear Teddy loses his button eye, and Akiko wishes she could find it. That night, she awakens and discovers she's the same size as Teddy. The two go on an adventure in the garden, asking Mee-Chan the cat and crickets for help finding Teddy's eye, and appreciating the beauty of the plants and mushrooms.

The illustrations are lovely, and I liked the selective use of red, which makes portions of each illustration pop.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Pushkin Press for this ARC in exchange for my review.

This is a delightful tale of a little girl and her beloved Teddy, who go on a bedtime adventure to retrieve Teddy's lost button eye, which fell off in the garden earlier that day. Accompanied by a brief rainfall, their midnight odyssey yields some magical moments, including encounters with crickets and cats.

The illustrations are delicate and beautiful and convey the atmospheric nature of the story. The way the little girl interacts with her Teddy is also very touching. Highly recommendedg

This delightful book from Japan is about a little girl and Teddy, her constant companion teddy bear) and their
search for Teddy’s missing eye, which has somehow fallen out and gotten lost in the forest. During the night, true magic occurs and while using some magic mushrooms as a flashlight, the eye is found. It’s put back firmly in Teddy’s face and all’s well that ends well. A very sweet story, suitable for bedtime or any other reading time.

I received this book as an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley.

In Teddy's Midnight Adventure, tiny is mighty. This magical story of Akiko and her bear, Teddy, is as adventurous as it is heartfelt. It's a well-written tale of a young girl's heart and courage to brave the microscopic forces of nature. The friends she meets along the way are of little help, but their characterization as naturally nice and well-intentioned animals is great. Teddy's Midnight Adventure is The Wizard of Oz meets Alice's Adventures In Wonderland; readers will be refreshed and inspired by Akiko's unrelenting hope in the wellbeing of her favorite stuffed friend—even as she shrinks to the size of a blade of grass.

This story is heartwarming, and I think would help children feel empathy and what the meaning of friendship is, I would recommend this book for a children's library and read to my own children.
