Lana and Christian, have the most adorable meet cute - both of them hiding in a closet, her from her cheating ex, and him from the paparazzi. Lana, however, doesn’t own a tv or have any interest in pop culture, meaning she doesn’t realise that she’s sharing a closet with (and eventually dating) Hollywood’s most famous actor, who wants to keep that a secret for as long as possible.
This was a very sweet, quick read and I was instantly pulled in by the premise of the story. It was a lighthearted book that gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, the only downfall being that I felt their relationship moved a BIT too quickly which made it hard for me to be fully convinced by it at times - I also think the characters (particularly Christian) could have been fleshed out a lil bit more outside of their relationships and careers. But overall, a nice, happy read that I enjoyed spending time with!

Thank you to Boldwood Books for this gifted e-ARC in exchange for an honest review 🫶🏻.
This was a cute, quick, fluffy read. I do love that attention is being brought to women in the sciences, and I am all about supporting this trend. ALSO, this book talks about how hard it is for an academic to get their research funded, and this is a REAL PROBLEM so I love seeing it being addressed.
As for the book, it was fun. I am not normally a fan of the "secretly famous" (or even NOT secretly famous) trope but I did really like Christian as a character. I liked that he appreciated Lana, respected her boundaries, and didn't let his status affect how he looked at her. And Lana was nicely written as intelligent and not too quirky (like a lot of sciency female characters are written).
Overall, nothing earth shattering, but a fun way to spend an afternoon.
If you are looking for a quick, fluffy, and cute romance book, this is the book for you! I read this book in a day. It was light, romantic, and very sweet, just what I was in the mood for when I was reading it.
The FMC, Lana, is a rocket scientist who meets the most famous man in Hollywood, Christian. After being stuck in a closet for an hour, the two form a connection... without Lana knowing that Christian is a world famous movie star.
I really liked almost all the parts of this book. It was the perfect length for the story that was told. It was very trope filled, which is always a plus for me. The tropes of instalove, secret identity, he falls first, and rich vs. poor all were present and I really enjoyed reading about it and having them in this novel.
I will say that as someone that inhales romance novels like it's my job, there wasn't really anything that made this 100% stand out to me, which is why I am rating it the way I am. It is a very normal novel for the genre, and is well written, but there is nothing novel about the book. This isn't a bad thing! There is always a time and place for the familiar or for a really well written, engaging romance novel! But for me who reads so many of them, I was hoping for a little more overall.
This is the perfect beach read for the summer and should be read by those that love romance novels, women in STEM, tropes, and quick reads! I definitely think that you should give this book a try.
Thank you to Boldwood books and NetGalley for a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review!
This was a really cute romance story, the spice was sweet with a bit of steam and fade to black. I really loved Lana’s inner dialog moments.
There are a few pop culture references throughout that are fun, and made me smile and think, hey I know what that is. I was left wanting a little more resolution on one or two things, but I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future and would recomend this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the free ARC for my review.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an Arc of this book, all thoughts are my own. The Love Theorem was a quick and fun rom com. I love reading books with a STEM obsessed MC and this delivered. Overall, I think this story ticked a lot of boxes. I think there could have been a bit more character development as it was hard for me to connect with the main characters. At some spots, I felt like they glossed over things that needed more detail or resolution. And the last 20% of the book did feel rushed. However, I am excited to read more books by this author.
Christian and Lana couldn't be more different. What are the chances of a big-shot Hollywood actor and a dedicated rocket scientist making a relationship work? It sounds like a challenge even before it starts. But Christian and Lana are something else, and they make one hell of a romantic statement.
I enjoyed this, but since I wasn't able to form a connection with the characters, I couldn't rate it higher. I'd still recommend it to others, though. Especially those who love to read about women in STEM.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.
The Love Theorem is an updated version of To the Stars and Back by Camilla Isley. It is an opposites-attract mistaken-identity romance that could easily be made into a Hallmark movie. While The Love Theorem can be read as a stand-alone, it is part of the First Comes Love series.
Lana Voynich is a PhD student at UCLA, studying aerospace engineering. When she tracks her boyfriend of 10 years and her best friend to a room at a posh hotel, she is so upset that she hides in a broom closet inside the hotel to cry. Then a handsome man enters the closet to hide from someone and they start talking. Christian Slade introduces himself as an actor, but Lana hasn’t watched TV in years, and besides half the people in southern California are aspiring actors.
Christian Slade is a British actor who was voted America’s sexiest man for several years. He is constantly avoiding the paparazzi and is thrilled to learn that the sobbing beautiful woman has no idea who he is. Christian takes Lana home and then asks her out 2 weeks later.
Christian’s personal assistant, Penelope Jones, helps him court Lana and stay under the tabloids’ radar. Lana continues to remain unaware of Christian’s fame until 6 weeks later when paparazzi force their vehicle off the road. Then Lana has to decide if she can withstand the pressures of Christian’s lifestyle.
The Love Theorem is an enjoyable romantic comedy with no profanity or graphic sex. Lana is an incredible lady, a brilliant engineer dedicated to supporting other women in STEM while being a good friend and co-worker. Her reaction to Johnathan’s cheating is hilarious and shows her true nature. Christian is a likeable romantic hero, and it’s good to see his interactions with others who have their own stories in the First Comes Love series. I loved To the Stars and Back but when it was edited to become The Love Theorem, it became even better. The characters are so engaging and the story moves along at a nice pace. I really hope that the author will write Penelope’s story, because she deserves it!
I received an advance review copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Boldwood Books for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Opposites attract in this fun romantic comedy. FMC Lana is a rocket scientist. Cat friendly, environmentally conscious and delightfully bookish, she accidentally meets MMC Christian Slade in the most adorable way. He is famous, has so many cars and has met his match in her.
I liked the glimpse into these characters’ respective lives. I really connected with Lana and her science-filled life, especially seeing the research side of things. I also really liked seeing Christian in his life. In both cases, this attention to the characters’ lives really helped me connect with them.
This is a closed door romance, and for the most part, it has a sweet heat that I enjoyed, but there were a few instances where the door closes on the reader rather abruptly, and I found it a bit jarring. I wanted more!!
This is a sweet stem romance with lots of fun and funny moments. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC. My review and opinions are my own.
Tessa Bailey meets Neil DeGrasse-Tyson to create The Love Theorem - a smart, witty, romantic comedy that had me hooked from the first page. I am a fierce advocate for women in STEM, so to see books surrounding smart, independent, strong female leads thrills me. Isley captures it perfectly, appealing to both science-based readers and not. It covers love, heartbreak, strong friendships, facing adversity, making sacrifices, and facing the fears of starting over.
Rounded up from 3.5 stars. The Love Theorem is a cute, fast read. Opposites attract, cute banter. I like the premise and instant connection they formed but the rest of the book was a little too insta-love for me but as a shorter read I get it. I didn't like the fake cover used as I feel that would be almost too hurtful to move past. The star storyline was the sweetest. Think of this as the closed door cousin to other STEM novels.
The Love Theorem was cute and sweet! It reminded me of a classic rom-com movie. This book is perfect for lovers of Bridget Jones, Notting Hill, When Harry Met Sally, and so on. This books reads just like a PG-13 movie. It is not very spicy in the same tone those PG/PG-13 romantic comedies aren’t either. This is a perfect beach/holiday read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Love theorem follows the story of Lana, a space engineer Phd student, who doesn’t watch tv and accidentally meets an Hollywood super star while hiding from her life in a closet.
This was a quick and fun read, I just wished it had a bit more of the STEM side rather than de Hollywood one.
Read this if you like:
- Dual POV
- Insta love
- Opposites attract
- Famous and non famous romance
- Closed door
“The Love Theorem” by Camilla Isley
New Life, New Love
I loved this story from the get-go. Lana and Christian are both special people. Who would have ever thought that two people who are pretty much polar opposites, just might find forever love. The info I was given stated that this story, in a previous life, was published as ‘To the Stars and Back’. But has undergone major reimagining. I love this version! Happy Reading ! !
3.5⭐
Fun, quick read. A little bit preachy but I believe in the issues presented so it didn't really bother me much.
Love it when the FMC is in STEM. They rock but it seems like all of the ones I've read at least were socially awkward.
I enjoyed the story overall but my eye twitched with the "cover-up" that Christian used.
Fade-to-black, dual first person POV.
Will continue to read the rest of the series once released.

Favorite Quotes:
“Two adults booking a room at the Peninsula? They’re not here to play Scrabble,” she hisses.
“I’m trying to find a silver lining,” Winter says. “If breaking up with Jonathan isn’t giving you the slightest chest pain, perhaps it isn’t all bad you broke up. I mean, he and my sister are two cockroaches who deserve to burn in hell forever, but maybe it was about time you took your relationship with John behind the barn and shot it.”
My Review:
This was a fun and appealing read that was smartly written and I can boast it was also informative as well since the main character was a rocket scientist who taught me the little known fact that there is a scientific unit of measurement called a slug, which weighs 32.2 pounds. And my mother always chided me for reading fiction - claiming it was a waste of time.
I adored these characters, they were easily accessible and highly likable and I wanted good things for them. Penned in my favorite dual POV, the writing style was crisp and engaging, yet also perceptive and loaded with wry wit and clever touches such as naming identical twins Summer and Winter. I easily fell into this tale from the very beginning and felt happily entertained and well pleased as I zipped through their star-crossed storylines.
This book was super cute! Christian and Lana make an adorable couple! I loved the way they met and how different their personalities are, it’s definitely an opposites attract situation!
A great fresh take on a romantic book. I liked the chemistry between the characters and the banter between the both of them. Seemingly different people coming together to make a perfect partnership.
I think we can all thank Ali Hazelwood for becoming Stem-romance fans LOL. But I am and therefore was SO excited to read this! It definitely delivered on everything that I could have hoped for. The "nerdy" girl, sexy man trope was done so well here and I really enjoyed! It was almost tooo insta-love for me, it definitely rode that line but I was able to look past it and really enjoy! I think this will be a huge book this summer (and for good reasons!).
I am a big fan of Camilla Isley and was very excited to get an advanced copy of The Love Theorem from NetGalley. This book does not disappoint. Lana is a rocket scientist (for real) and Christian is a movie star. Lana has no idea who Christian is when they meet - in fact she doesn't know until confronted by the paparazzi after one of their dates. Will Lana be able to put up with the craziness that is Christian's life? You'll have to read this book to find out! The Love Theorem hits all of the right notes and I can highly recommend it. It is well written and not your regular formulaic romance novel. 5 stars.
I absolutely loved The Love Theorem by Camilla Isley. Such a wonderful, quick read full of great banter and chemistry! This story is about Lana and Christian who are from two completely different worlds even though they are both in California. I’m still not sure how Lana didn’t know who Christian is, especially with Summer being a fan of his but I will let that slide given how yummy the book is. I am so looking forward to reading Winter’s story.
A big “Thank You” to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with an advance copy in return for an independent, honest review.
