A good collection for a celebration of Pride. There will always be man and woman who should have been included too. But overall a really good effort - and as always, a very nice illustration. Liked it a lot.

As always, love every single story included in this. What a powerful book to help encourage little boys and girls to be the best they can be, even when trials and tribulations happen. I am very grateful for those who share their stories, especially when the world may not agree with who they are. The biggest message I got from this book, and one I spread to my kiddo on the daily, is be who you want to be, but above all, be kind. Thank you for the opportunity to read the stories!

This new collection of stories/bios from Rebel Girls focuses on 25 people in the LGBTQ community. I really enjoyed that it focused on lesser known people within the community and instead of just photos of the people they were illustrated. While this collection is focused on a younger audience and is perfect for younger readers, I think adults can enjoy it as well and can use it as a teaching tool. The bios are perfect length to give you just enough information to keep your interest but not overwhelm you.

Another stand out from Rebel Girls!

Rebel Girls Celebrate Pride 25 Tales of Self-Love and Community features the fascinating stories of 25 inspirational people from all over the globe who campaign and work to ensure equal rights for the LGBTQ community. They’ve broken down barriers in sport, entertainment and science as well as overturned laws and created safe spaces where everybody can be themselves.

We were particularly inspired by Lawyers Menaka Guruswamy and Arundhati Katie who have successfully fought against anti-LGBTQ laws in India and Moji and Margaret Solar-Wilson who have created the Solar-Wilson Village, an African inspired safe place in Texas.

This diverse collection also includes sports heroes like tennis player Billy Jean King who runs World TeamTennis with her wife Ilana and paralympic swimmer, Theresa Goh. It features artists such as actor and activist, Laverne Cox, dancer and activist, Sherenté Harris, and actor and model, Patrica Velàsquez, who have all been instrumental in championing acceptance for everybody in the LGBTQ community.

There are also activities at the end of the book. Readers are encouraged to write their own stories, draw their own portraits and celebrate themselves. The terms ‘gender identity’, ‘gender expression’ and ‘sexual orientation are also explained and children are encouraged to talk to a trusted adult if they have any questions.

Not as good or as long as other Rebel Girls books. I can think of so many more high-profile and influential LGBTQIA+ people but I guess they're trying to showcase lesser known humanitarian-types.

What a great empowering book for children to see the diversity of gifts and to celebrate pride. The illustrations are engaging and it’s cool to learn different perspectives about people we know about and others who we weren’t aware of yet.

This was good. I enjoyed learning about these 25 people, most of whom I was unaware of, and it was interesting to have each one with an illustration rather than photos.
I understand this is geared towards a young audience and therefore not trying to get bogged down in in-depth stories and details - merely giving general overviews, but even so I feel like some of the mini-bios would definitely have benefited from having a little more elaboration. That said, this kind of thing is a hard balance to strike, and maybe the lack of detail will encourage readers to do their own research.
I liked that each of the 25 illustrations is done by a different artist. Aside of being able to showcase a wide variety of people (which is so great!), it gives the book a very unique feel - having so many different styles in one place. Plus, if one piece isn't your personal tastes you just need to turn the page and that one, or the next, likely will be!
Overall, I liked this a lot. I would easily recommend it to kids who are potentially questioning and could use the support of knowing there are others like them, as well as suggesting it as just a general -this is good stuff to know- for anyone else. While I personally would have liked to see more people featured and more details, again, as the focus is a young audience I can't truly complain about that. I *would* love to see an adult version, though!

This is the 3rd Rebel Girls book I've read and I really like this format of short informative tales.
It's great to see that in this edition they extended the range of selection to non-binary people and the title is also in harmony with this: this book is not about rebel girls but Rebel Girls - as a brand - celebrating all LGBTQIA+ individuals.

At the end of the book there's a short summary of what gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation are, I think that's a good starting point to discuss with younger audiences before jumping into the stories.

The stories of the people in this book are again really inspiring and moving and - just like in Animal Allies - have a lot of stories and achievements on a local scale showing that even the smallest ideas and deeds can have great importance.

The illlustrations are as vivid as ever and as diverse as the depicted people themselves.

All of the Rebel Girls books I've read so far have been well-written, informative, and beautifully designed, and this was no exception.
This book did an amazing job representing LGBTQIA+ folks from all walks of life and cultures. An absolute gem. Representation is so important, and people need to see themselves everywhere so they know they are not alone and can achieve great things.

Rebel Girls Celebrate Pride is a collection of short biographies beautifully put together and presented alongside gorgeous portraits. The stories do a great job of putting the person's life into context, often showing the subjects from childhood up until their most notable achievements. Some of the pages include QR codes that lead to the Rebel Girls app where readers can find out more about the lives of these extraordinary people.

For young readers coming across the book, these engaging stories and the variety of professions mentioned are bound to inspire children to follow their dreams and be proud of their identity or identities.

While the diversity in terms of race, sexuality, and gender identity is something to be applauded, the people showcased in the book are mostly from the English-speaking countries, with only 7 entries (and 7 illustrators) being people from the rest of the world. In addition, a whopping 14 people portrayed in the book are representing the USA. There is also a lack of representation of people with disabilities, especially visible ones.

That aside, this is a beautiful book celebrating the achievements and lives of LGBTQ+ people and I'm hoping that this is the first of many books in which Rebel Girls celebrate Pride.

"Rebel Girls Celebrate Pride" is an excellent addition to the Rebel Girls books.

The illustrations are beautiful and well thought out as with all the other installments of this series.

I love the diversity here. There are people from all over the world and that's a nice touch when we are discussing being inclusive.

Some stories are more emotional than others, but I feel like it's possible for anyone to find something to identify with.

I also liked that there is a QR for extra information in some cases, it's a good idea to expand the book experience.

In general, it is a good book -although sometimes a little basic- to help children and adults to recognize the importance of telling these stories.

I think this is a good addition to the Rebel Girls-books. There are some non-binary folks in here, which made me pause - not because they don't deserve the spotlight, but because of the title. But I'm thinking the title is more of a brand than anything. And some NBs do identify as women in some way, so yeah.

Anyway, as always, beautiful illustrations all around, wonderful quotes and inspiring stories. These book are definitely for the keeper shelves.

(A bit curious about why some of the stories lack birth date, but maybe it's hard to find or the authors don't really reach out to the people they write about...)

I love the Rebel Girls series and everything they stand for. I was especially thrilled to see that they have a new book celebrating Pride. This book did an amazing job representing LGBTQIA+ folks from different countries, cultures, and walks of life. An absolute gem that all girls need access to! At first, I was surprised to see that non-binary people were included in this book (I am non-binary) because most of us don’t identify as women (even if some do). Still, the author wanted to get out of the non-binary spectrum, and honestly, I find it excellent. So don’t stop at the title.

There were many people to discover, scientists, stars, and activists… from around the world. Maybe seeing more labels would have been great. But a great book, I discovered people that we don’t really see in other books.

Perfect for kids, and grownups too

This was my first Rebel Girls book and I can safely say that it will not be my last!

I absolutely adored the illustrations and how compact, yet very informative the information was.

Voices heard from athletes to scientists to artists to entertainers. We get their brief bio and then maybe a line or two about their rainbow identity. I think I like the activists bios the best because they are just regular people like you and me (not that athletes and entertainers aren’t regular people), but they are making incredible steps forward for our freedoms - often at great cost for themselves. Thank you.

I have to say that the illustrations done by multiple artists are just gorgeous.

There is also a section to write down your own ideas. Terms that you should know and a little about GLAAD.

Rebel Girls Celebrate Pride is a quick and fun read. This is a great beginner’s book and introduction to rainbows.

I always enjoy the various Rebel Girls books because when I read them, I come away with knowledge about people I’ve never heard of. In my classroom, I try to teach my students about a new person every day and try to focus on lesser known figures. This book will certainly help with that, and I know students will find it interesting to read as well.

It was the perfect book to read this month (and for any other month of course). It was an eye opener.
