This collection of 25 stories about girls and gaming is fabulous. Boys are not the only ones who like to play, and girls are good at gaming, too!
My middle school granddaughter recommended this one to me, and I'm glad to be a librarian who passes this title along.
My daughter and I love the rebel girl books, they are beautifully written and so inspiring. I look forward to the next rebel girl books.
Yet another good installment in the Rebel Girls series, these books can't do a lot wrong in my eyes!
I really liked this book...
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I'll be honest and say that before reading this book I had no idea who any of these Rebel Girls were. I now do and once again thank Rebel Girls for exposing our youth to amazing girls who do amazing things. It's inspiring seeing what could happen when. Someone thinks outside of the box when they see something lacking in a game or want to pressure their passions.
Whenever I get approved to read a Rebel Girls book I'm always happy, they bring me a lot of joy, especially seeing how diverse they're getting. Girls all over the world can discover the women who have paved the way for them (or are in the process of doing so). Gaming has been such a male dominant world that it's nice to see all these girls breaking barriers.
Thank you, Rebel Girls!
Thank you Rebel Girls for an advanced reader copy.
This book is an excellent Rebel Girls addition. I've been watching the series since its first volume. Women can be invisible in the male dominated world of video gaming and game design, as well as production. So when Rebel Girls had this ARC available, I jumped at the chance to read stories of women in the gaming industry. I can’t wait to share this book with my daughter when she is older. As an adult reader, it opened my mind up to different aspects of the industry, like the who designs the background music. If you love gaming or your kid loves gaming, this could be a great addition to your Rebel Girls collection.
This was another great read from the Rebel Girls team. It is about women in the Gaming industry which I will be honest and say I don't know much about. Even with this, I loved learning more about this subject and the women who have opened up the gaming world to many girls over the years.
Another fab title from the Rebel Girls team! Great layout with bold colourful illustrations and short snappy text about women in the gaming/tech industry. Perfect for school libraries.
So many of these women’s stories begin with not being represented in the world of gaming. Each of them work hard and get a chance to bring change and make gaming better for girls.
Readers can create and tell their own story at the end of the book.
Thank you NetGalley and Rebel Girls for the opportunity to read this book.
This book was phenomenal! I'm a gamer and I loved learning about so many wonderful women in this book. I like the diverse representation and I even saw someone I knew and met personally. It was such a great line up and showcased so many interesting voices. I'm sure others young and young at heart will enjoy this.
Rebel Girls Level Up 25 Tales of Gaming and the Metaverse book review.
This is a book that needed to be published for girls worldwide. The awesome thing is that it includes women from all over the world. The importance of each of the single 25 mini-bios for young girls is going to cause a ripple effect.
The stories of these women will inspire and motivate young girls that enjoy gaming and understand the Metaverse and will do great things because of the role models available some of which are in the Rebel Girls Level Up book.
To see these 25 women have had the mindset to create a path in an industry that did not include them initially is mindblowing. There is nothing women cannot do. And in reading, Rebel Girls Level Up, you learn about the career breakthroughs created by Amber Allen, Anne Shoemaker, Brittney Morris, Cathy Hackl, and Helen Chiang among others. They are Video Game Studio Heads, Video Game Writers, Game Designers, Creators and Community Builders, and CEO’s. Because the gaming industry needs to understand girls like playing too.
If you have a gamer, coder, or creative in your life, Rebel Girls Level Up is a great way to nurture their interests in all things gaming and metaverse related. You never know, they may just be featured in a future Rebel Girls book.
I personally didn’t know any of the 25 women mentioned in this book. But now that I have read about them, it is a great way to find them on social media platforms and support them. The more we support women the more we will see their projects come to life and give them the space to further break down barriers. With Rebel Girls not only are you getting to know these women and their stories, but you also get to see the talents behind each of the illustrators that created the portraits in the Level Up book. Illustrators like Sonia Lazo, Lydia MBA, Juliette Toma, Katie Hicks, and more.
An interesting new book in the Rebel Girls series: This one focuses on high-tech women in gaming, from game designers to professional gamers. With the rise of artificial intelligence and virtual reality, these are women the world will watch out for!
I received a complimentary copy from Rebel Girls and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This was an inspiring book and should be required reading for girls interested in STEM , gaming and its ideal for schools as it shows young girls what's possible. It's a well researched, well illustrated and inspiring book. This should be in libraries, schools, read at bedtime and in every child's hand.
This is a great compilation of women and girls who are leaders in the gaming community. These girls and women have made strides in a field that men have dominated.
This book is perfect book to incorporate to l for young girls to learn about the impact and role women have had in STEM. Gamer girls are usually looked down on, and it's taken some time for them to be considered a part of the gamer community. That can be a bit discouraging and books like this these are necessary for young girls to know they belong and they to can grow up to be a part of team and play a role in the future of this industry.
The illustrations in this book are popping, absolutely love them.
This is another one of those books I would have breezed past had it not been for the Rebel Girls imprint. I didn't grow up in the gaming generation, so the topic isn't something I would normally care about or be interested in, but since it was Rebel Girls, and since it was offered... I jumped at the chance to read. I'm so happy I did! What a delight!
As with most Rebel Girls books, this one highlights women in the field - in this case, gaming and the metaverse. I learned about designers, streamers, CEOs, podcasters, players, and Esports (who knew!!). As usual, each meticulous bio was accompanied by a fantastic drawn/painted portrait - not just a stock photo, and the back of the book gave readers a chance to write their own stories, draw their own portraits, and try out some of the skills that the women in the book embody.
I love that each Rebel Girls book gives young woman a new perspective, a new path to explore, and a new topic to delve into. I only wish this series had been around when I was growing up, or was available for my nieces. I have to settle for ensuring I have a complete set in my classrooms and that my students are inspired to become Rebel Girls.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
I started gaming in the early days with Atari. It dates me quite a bit, but it's been a life long hobby. I love seeing a book that brings to the forefront all those wonderful women and girl gamers out there. The gaming industry is heavily male dominated. Women often go unrecognized. I adore the fact that Rebel Girls brings forward inspiring stories to young ones, all while teaching them that girls can be gamers and in tech, too! The bonus content QR codes are a fun addition to the books. As always the illustrations are bright, colorful and eye catching. Overall an inspiring read and a great book for the little gamers out there.
Oh, to see women get into the STEM careers and make a name for themselves is my dream! In a predominantly male industry, these amazing women broke through the barriers and made a name for themselves. There are so many awesome tales of these women and what they went through to make a name for themselves, and I’m here for it. I love how each person’s story is set up, the gorgeous illustrations that accompany the stories, and the little extra tidbits of information sprinkled throughout. As always, another amazing Rebel Girls book! Thanks for the opportunity to review!
This is a great collection of gamers, streamers, game designers, CEOs, esports players. I had no idea there were so many of them, never mind females. I think many young girls would be inspired by reading this book,
"It's important… that these companies do right by the marginalized communities that they try to include by actually including them." - Amira Virgil
Rebel Girls Level Up is a collection of women who have made an impact in the gaming sphere. It is so important for girls and young women to see others like themselves doing things they love. I love that this selection of women encompasses all ages, nationalities, cultures and backgrounds. Representation is so important!
I also totally love that, at the end of this book, there's a place for the reader to write their own story. This is a powerful book that encourages girls and young women to write their own stories and live their dreams. It's wonderful to see other women like you who have paved the way.
[Thanks Netgalley and Rebel Girls for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!]
