Honestly this struck the perfect balance of absurdity, wholesomeness, and humor. Looking forward to volume 2 and I might pick up the anime in the mean time.

"So, Iruma, my sweet boy! Won't you be my grandson?" - Sullivan

What's worse than being a perpetual pushover? Getting sold to a demon by your own parents!

Iruma has just landed himself in the Netherworld where he's surrounded by demons who would love to take a bite out of him if they knew he was human. Keeping that secret well-guarded is difficult as he's thrown into a school for demons! He must navigate through his new world and put his survival skills to good use hoping that they will be enough. Of course, having a doting-demon-grandpa never hurt anyone maybe it will give him a leg up?

"I'll be the one who decides if you're useless trash. . .or if you're going to be somewhat useful trash." - Kalego (one of my favorites!)

I was beyond excited when I saw this manga was available! I have seen the anime and completely fell in love with this story! From the outrageous characters and their bigger than life personalities to the plotline of the series! This has to be one of my top favorite anime/manga!

Iruma's parents get the medal for "worst parents of the century"! Everything's portrayed in a very comical way, but Iruma's parents take the cake. . . Because of his upbringing Iruma is a giant pushover and will do anything for anyone. He also has honed his skills in survival and some of his abilities are utterly hysterical! Iruma has to quickly adapt to his new surroundings or else he might just be someone's dinner.

As he tries to keep his presence hush-hush everyone and everything seems to have other plans for him. Just like most MCs who wish to slip between the cracks and be permanent wallflowers things never go their way. Iruma is faced with so many trials right off the gate and some of them are close calls! I love that Iruma has such a pure heart and causes others to see things a little differently than what they're used to. Iruma's a very loveable character and you just want to protect him!

I laughed so much with this manga and cannot wait for the next volume! The teachers at this school and Iruma's classmates are the best. There's even a character who would either be besties or rivals with Bakugo, the two being very similar to one another. This volume does end on a cliffhanger and if you do not wish to wait until the next installment comes out then this book ends on episode five-six of season one of the anime.

This is a slice-of-life comedy manga with mention of darker elements, but everything is kept light. There is some language here and there but no major f bombs or a lot of curse words. Violence, slight gore, and bloodshed are shown but nothing is detailed out. Iruma does have to hear of things demons wish they could do to humans, namely eat them. A couple of panels depicting demons bullying other demons. A little bit of nudity but no fanservice or panels of really vulgar things.

I absolutely love the artwork in this manga! On the panels that are fully colored I enjoy the vibrant pallet the manga artist went with! In the anime you can really see everything come to life and how pretty all of it is. I also like how majority of the little shorts at end of the manga are added into the anime episodes. Really showcasing the different personalities of everyone. We also get notes about the manga, the artist, her team, and their workspace!

Enjoy the read as you laugh out loud and don't forget to give the author some stars!

Welcome to Demon School is a quirky fun manga. A human boy, Iruma, is sold to a demon who wants a grandchild and enrolled in demon school. Only one problem, humans aren't allowed! Iruma is both clueless and endearing winning him some amazing friends. This volume covers the first several days of school as well as his origin story. Several of the characters are over the top, but in such a fun way. The illustrations are black in black and white and very easy to follow. My children and I enjoyed this one together.

I received an advance reader copy and am leaving this review of my own volition.

An entertaining manga about a young human boy who is sold to a demon who really really really wants a grandson by his own parents. A great day to pass the time with an enjoyable read that doesn't require a lot of effort. Possibly aimed for younger audiences.

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is a basic shounen adventure, although I do enjoy the fact that there's Corky Romano in this. As in Iruma is a loser of sorts and nothing works for him and by doing so, it actually works. Bad luck is actually good luck. Iruma Suzuki's parents sell him to a demon and the demon makes him his grandson. Iruma needs to attend a demon school and there he somehow makes friends and all bad things somehow turn into good ones. Gladly Iruma isn't too stupid, more like someone who wants to please others and it gentle. It's great we get inside his head and being a human among demons is interestingly constructed. There's some Blue Exorcist in this too.

The art looks good, it works well with the theme and the humor is finally better. The series is already 31 books long, so there's going to happen all sorts of things. This s a good shounen series, it's nothing new or miraculous, but the characters have more heart and the humor is slightly different. Basic series work.

I believe this book might been aimed for a younger crowd.

Our main lead, Iruma, is given a contract by a demon lord who asks for him to be his grandson. It's a weird stuff, but just strange enough to get me intrigued. Through becoming part of this demon world he has to learn to summon demons, meet new demons who can potentially be love interest, and even learn to fight and defend himself.

It's just that none of it was very interesting, least for me. I couldn't get attached to any character, Iruma especially, way too much of a people pleaser. I also didn't like the demon world in here, reminded me too much of school, like a Harry Potter demon academy. The art was solid enough though and I think for kids or maybe young teens, this might be a solid choice.

(I was given a ARC by Netgallery in exchange for a fair and honest review.)

I wanted to like it but the art is too cartoony and I just didn't care about the story enough to look past it.

Pity poor Iruma - his deadbeat parents have just sold him to a demon. But wait, maybe that's not a bad thing? Because the demon he's been sold to actually just really, really wants a grandson, and now he's ready to pamper Iruma and make sure that he can live his best life, in the most ridiculous way, of course.

If you're already a fan of the anime adaptation, reading this is a no-brainer; the show has clearly been very faithful, based on this first volume. But even if you're not familiar with the story, it's worth picking up, because it's just delightful - it blends goofy fantasy humor with a strong sense of kindness as Iruma bumbles his way through his first days at demon school and learns that he's worth something besides hard physical labor. This book brings the main trio of characters (Iruma, Asmodeus, and Clara) together, as well as introducing the first few members of the Misfit Class, and it's not hard to become invested in the characters' adventures. Silly and sweet with a touch of danger, this is a fun book for old and new fans of the franchise alike.

For full disclosure I did receive a copy for free to make this review, however, I also went out and bought my own if that gives you an idea of how much I liked this.

In case you have somehow missed out on Iruma-kun despite its very good and relatively popular three season anime adaptation, this is a comedy about a young boy whose parents sell his soul to a demon. That demon, the very cool Sullivan, doesn't want to eat Iruma or anything, he actually just wants a grandson to spoil because he's jealous of all his coworkers.

To make-up for the school life that Iruma never got to experience due to the servitude imposed by his parents, Sullivan enrolls our young hero at Babyls: a school run by demons, for demons. Despite his best efforts to go unnoticed by a student body that dreams of eating humans, Iruma instead becomes the star of the school on his first day by accidentally beating up the most powerful freshman in his class.

The demons of the underworld might have magic and superhuman strength, but Iruma has the greatest power of all: kindness. A kindness that he will use to enact a relentless and unintentional campaign of subjugation on his fellow students as well as the teachers that run the place. You see, it is not a question of if Iruma will conquer the underworld, but when; and how many friends he'll have made in the process. You truly cannot go wrong with picking this up, it's excellent in all areas.

Iruma Suzuki finds himself in a bit of a pickle when his parents sell his soul! So he goes to the demon world and is immediately adopted by a grandfatherly demon who takes care of him but also is making him go to demon school. He can't be found out though or the demons might eat him! This first volume is full of hijinks and adventure and I can't wait to see what the next volumes hold!

Such a fun story. Iruma’s worthless parents sell him to a demon who is desperate for a grandchild. Iruma never can say no to anything and so he agrees to be his grandson and gets enrolled to a demon school. Humans aren’t allowed, so he has to be careful. But due to misunderstandings, his unique abilities and good heart, he makes friends and even gains respect as a great demon.

Illustrations are black and white and good. The story is suitable for all ages.

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is a charming manga following the adventures of the human Iruma in the demon realm. I was very excited for the English translation of this manga as I’ve been watching the anime. This manga lived up to its manga. Iruma is a charming character and incredibly sweet as he just tries to survive. The supporting cast is just as charming. This is a manga wherein I believe that the amount of fun you’re able to have with the characters is what matters the most and Nishi does in really at designing characters you want to spend time with. If you enjoyed this anime or just want an enjoyable adorable manga, I’d recommend picking up Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-Kun.

Thank you to NetGalley & the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I love Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-Kun! It is literally one of my favorite series. It’s cute, funny, emotional, & it tugs at my heart in every way. I had no idea the manga wasn’t officially out yet in English when the anime is already going to season 4. I’m looking forward to seeing how the stories is similar & different to the anime.

Iruma Suzuki is a 14 year old human boy who has been abused by his parents. From the moment he could walk, he was expected to provide for his family. One day they summon a demon and sell him. Iruma fears the worst when he is transported to the demon world, but he is surprised to learn the demon who bought him is desperate for companionship and longs for a grandson. Iruma decides to be adopted by Sullivan, who pampers him and treats him like his own child. Iruma is enrolled into a school for the first time in his life and is overwhelmed by being the only human. He must learn how to pretend to be a demon so he isn’t eaten as well as learn how to make friends and be a regular teenage boy.

This series is so cute and I love all the characters so much. In volume 1 we meet Iruma of course along with Azz & Clara who will be his major companions throughout the series. I had forgotten how much Clara’s beginnings had made me sad. I love so much that she was able to meet Iruma & Azz. Hopefully the misfit class is introduced more in volume 2!

I’m so glad this series is getting officially released now. Hopefully it’ll get a wider audience because it deserves it. If you like slice of life series with humor that revolve around school life and demons fighting with magical powers, I suggest this one highly.
