A group of disposable heroes are sent to a radioactive Tokyo, looking for a secret weapon that could give France the upper hand in this far future’s global power struggles. (why France? well, because the mangaka was really impressed by Nicolas de Crécy). Obviously, things go wrong very quickly, and the main hero finds himself alone in a derelict and dangerous metropolis. And yet, even if a guy is shot in the head on page 15, this feels more like a Ghibli film than a real thriller - the art is beautiful yet caricatural, we meet a magical girl with bird legs, a huge lion-like creature with a sweeping mane, and mysterious humanoids that look like yokai. The story is nothing special, so far - at its heart, this is just a typical post-apocalyptic survival manga, and this first volume didn’t really convince me to keep reading. Too bad, I liked the art, especially the color pages.
