Fun wholesome reading! I don’t know much about K-pop, but always love a delve into a new world! This is definitely going to end up with a bit of a cult following I think!
The Yakuza’s Bias 1 by Teki Yatsuda offers an intriguing blend of romance and crime drama. The story follows a young protagonist entangled with the enigmatic and dangerous world of the Yakuza, leading to unexpected connections and tension. Yatsuda’s writing is engaging, with well-developed characters and a captivating plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Themes of loyalty, love, and the complexities of choice are woven throughout, making this a compelling read for fans of romantic thrillers.

This was absolutely hilarious!
As a Kpop fan myself I could relate to how Ken was feeling but just the thought of a Yakuza being this obsessed with a Kpop group, yet alone a Kpop idol was so funny to me. If you enjoy Kpop I highly recommend you to read this because it was so funny but still relatable. Some of the things might’ve been a bit extreme but that’s what made it so much funnier and more enjoyable.
The Yakuza's Bias vol 1 by Teki Yatsuda is a fun manga, that follows Ken Kanashiro, a highly ranked yakuza member that becomes a k-pop fan. The manga follows his journey discovering the life of a k-pop fan, going to concerts, trading photo cards and making new friends due to the shared interest. There are many funny and relatable scenes if you’ve ever been in the vicinity of k-pop and fandom. It’s a light-hearted and funny manga, and I’ll be sure to pick up the next volume in the series!
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Who would have thought that Yakuza could have a bias and be the biggest fan of an idol group?? Such fun and wholesome reads!!

A fun look at stans of K-POP groups and fandom in general. The USP in this is that it is a hard-nosed gangster who falls into fandom in a huge way.
The art is good, dark and rough for the gangsters and all clean cut, soft focus for the member of the boy band.
I thought it was fun but does the concept have the legs for a multi volume series? Only time will tell.
Thanks NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for this arc!

This was a fun read, in the same vein as The WAY of The House Husband, but make it KPop! This was amusing, but did get a little repetitive for me. I was entertained, but I still struggled to finish it.
I didn't like this volume, and I won't be continuing it.. The story was a little amusing, but I can see it quickly becoming one note. I also hated the art. Hated. It looked like something out of the 1980s. Maybe that was the style the artist was going for, but I found it off-putting. I'll find something else to read.
This manga is was amazing. I love this art style storyline, and just how funny it is also wholesome. Ken is the second in command of the Washio Clan. Daughter takes him to a M.N.W concert and that’s where everything changes. He has a lot of compassion too Jun because of what he does to make people happy. Also what it takes to be able to go on stage. There are so many parts that made me smile and laugh. Because he loves this group so much especially Jun. I also like that he writes fanfiction about this group. He also has a large Twitter following about the group and the fan on there as well. I like that president wife and daughter that like the group and then they decorated the homes with pieces of merchandise from this group. I also like that a different clan member went to a concert with Ken And they both saw how memorizing this group was. I cannot wait to read the next volume.
Recently finished this one as well. This was quite a good read and a good laugh. Really needed it after the downhill from my previous fantasy read 🙈
I'll be definitely continuing this series. This is quite a unique concept for me, and it has K-pop content as well. Highly recommended for those who want comedy 🫶
Funny over the top comedy with just the right length for this volume. (I'm not sure if the story or laughs will get thin for multiple volumes.)
I think this book definitely gave me Way of the Househusband and Geek Ex-Hitman vibes with the main characters all becoming obsessed with things that aren't stereotypical of their menacing auras; but in this one it's more focused on K-Pop. While I'm not big into the K-Pop scene, I feel like anyone who's been sucked down a fandom rabbit hole will definitely find this story relatable. This is definitely a story I was laughing out loud multiple times.
I think my main issue is the fact it's a gag manga (which was mentioned in the author's note at the end) and it definitely has more of an episodic vibe (much akin to Way of the Househusband) and I think this series would definitely have the opportunity to dive into some deeper topics and it's going to be very surface level. Of course there's nothing wrong with that and there's the chance future volumes might go deep and dark; but it's still something I'm more apprehensive about than irritated.

This manga volume was a fun introduction to this world. It was humorous, fast-paced with characters you cannot help but like/root for. The graphics were amazing as was the storyline. Definitely waiting to read the next volume.
Ken Kanashiro is a lieutenant in the yakuza, a man of unshakeable loyalty to his crime family. Then the boss' daughter takes him to see her favorite K-pop idols, MNW, in concert, and his devotion suddenly has competition: his new "bias" (idol), the scintillating Jun. In Jun, Ken sees new possibilities for masculine expression and what it means to be a man. Forced to hide his transformation from steely enforcer to trembling idol devotee, Ken is now trapped between two very different worlds, with highly entertaining results. Delightful. I'm excited to read volume 2.
I very funny and entertaining gag manga—following Ken, a Yakuza, who discovers the thrall of Kpop and becomes a diehard stan of an idol. The art is beautiful and the comedic timing is impeccable. Highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an e-ARC copy of this book, in exchange for this honest review.
The first volume of The Yakuza's Bias compiles the first seven chapters of Teki Yatsuda's gansters-turned-kpop-stans gag manga.
The manga is utterly relateable and completely hilarious if you're an idol stan yourself and spend enough time in fandom spaces to get the jokes and understand what's going on (mercari, twitter, fanmeets, etc).
The art is great, but the style didn't fit for me. It's too serious for a gag manga (though I can understand how that in itself could be funny for some). I'm also not sure where the story is going, but seeing the characters fall into the blackhole of kpoo fandom is certainly entertaining.
Very cute and fun read about mobsters turned pop icon fans. It was humorous to watch the fandom grow as more mobsters were exposed to the group.
Much like 'The Way of the House Husband" this gag manga takes the cruel and vicious Yakuza members and turns them into overzealous fans. Filled with misinterpretations, many references to K-Pop and J-Pop fans, and great artwork, this is a delight to read and great for any fans looking for something a little less serious. Well worth the read.
This was hilarious yet very entertaining. I couldn't have imagined a gang's second in charge leader falling for a fandom of k-pop. Recently k-pop culture is getting very much attention and being a Kpop fan myself, I was able to understand the love and affection for the idol. I had a great time reading this.
To start with the drawing of this manga, it is too beautiful, I love the expressions of the characters and their entire design.
The drawing was what I liked the most because when it came to talking about the story I didn't like it very much, it didn't seem funny or interesting to me, it bored me a little.
