Rochelle is in an unconventional love triangle; instead of being two love interests, it is between her male best friend and his older brother. Unfortunately for Elle, Noah treats her more like an annoying little sister than a potential girlfriend. It is made quite clear that Elle has a big crush on him, but also finds him irritating. But whether she just tells herself this to make herself feel better, who knows.

There was an opportunity in this book to explore deeper themes concerning high school but the story took a different route. When Elle is going to parties, Noah warns other guys away from her. However, this has the downside of her being quite naïve, and I could see the story turning a completely different direction if it wasn’t for Noah popping up at every opportunity.

Fortunately or not, the story stayed light and fun with a lot of flirtation between Elle and Noah. I found myself smiling at several parts throughout the book, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good pick-me-up. The o0nly thing I am disappointed about is the lack of a sequel. It would be nice to see some more character development, as it was just a bit too simplified for me. The relationship between Noah and Elle isn’t a particularly healthy one due to his overpossessive and sometimes violent reactions towards other guys concerning her. Yes it was nice that he stuck up for her, but I think this could possibly send the wrong message.

The Kissing Booth is a straightforward cute read. I whizzed through it, enjoying the laughs and romance it bought. This book won’t stick with me forever, but it was a fun read while it lasted. 4 sofas!
