Cassie's work as an artist means that she sometimes struggles to make rent and now she's facing eviction. Then she sees an advert for a roommate that seems too good to be true. A beautiful apartment in a good Chicago neighbourhood for just $200 a month. It turns out her roommate Frederick isn't exactly normal. Despite only being in his mid 30s, he doesn't seem to know what technology is, he's out all night and he leaves Regency romance novels all over the apartment. But he also loves Cassie's artwork and encourages her to follow her dreams. When Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge, it's time for Frederick to be honest about who -or what- he is.
I really liked Frederick as a character. He is very charming and he made me laugh a few times. I would have liked the storyline with his family and would-be fiancee to have been a bigger element. It all felt a bit rushed towards the end and I think an extra 50 pages ish would have really helped to make this feel less shoe-horned in. I also would have liked to have seen Cassie at work a bit more. There were a few scenes near the beginning where she was running art classes at the public library and then we seemed to forget that was her job, which was a huge shame. Overall, I did enjoy the romance and I thought the spice level was just right -I didn't cringe and there was only one graphic sex scene, which I think is always enough.
A modern artist in need of an apartment finds herself rooming with a vampire, a premise that had me hooked at the start. This is a romantic comedy, heavy on the comedy aspect; it aims to make you laugh. I think anyone looking for a supernatural romantic comedy should give this one a try. It had real charm and whimsy with the electric group of characters.
While I found the characters likable, overall I think this book's humor just wasn't for me. I found it too cutesy and silly to take the adult characters seriously. I wanted a little bit more drama and angst for a vampire romance.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC.

If you're in the mood for a light-hearted, whimsical read, "My Roommate Is a Vampire" by debut author Jenna Levine might just be your next favorite. This charming romantic comedy centered around the life of struggling artist Cassie Greenberg offers a delightful mix of humor, romance, and the supernatural. Cassie's journey begins on a rocky note, facing eviction and financial struggles, making the too-good-to-be-true apartment in a beautiful Chicago neighborhood irresistible, even if it comes with a few quirks.
Cassie soon discovers that her roommate, Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, is anything but ordinary. With his peculiar habits like sleeping all day, being out at night, and speaking like he's from another century, Frederick is a mystery waiting to be unraveled. The heart-melting notes he leaves around the apartment and his genuine interest in Cassie's art and well-being add layers to his character, making him irresistibly charming. The plot thickens when Cassie stumbles upon bags of blood in the fridge, leading to Frederick’s revelation—he’s a vampire, and he has a proposition for her.
Rated at 3/5 stars, this book is a fun escape into a world where true love is at stake, literally. While it may not have the depth of some classic romances, the quirky premise and endearing characters make "My Roommate Is a Vampire" an enjoyable read. It's perfect for those looking for a sweet, supernatural twist on the typical romantic comedy.
I loved this, it was a cute read for a vampire story and I loved the interactions between the MCs. Frederick was a great character and really well written, he made me laugh a lot. Excited for the second instalment
Thank you for my earc of this book. This was a fun read and I especially liked the epistolary style!
Vibrant, lively (pun intended) and sharply witty, this was an easy read. The characters really speak to the realities (okay, paranormal realities) of living - and loving - as a vampire, and trying to interact with humans in a "I promise I'm not a vampire" way. Light hearted and a generally good book. I look forward to the upcoming sequel.
Not my usual genre of book but one I devoured as soon as I started.
I love the way Cassie ans Frederick first communicate and how their friendship slowly develops into more. I enjoyed seeing snippets of Fredericks relationship with Reginald and navigating 21st century technology.
An easy, fast paced modern romance
Such an amazing book. Really enjoyed it. Bought a copy as soon as it is as published. Definitely one I will recommend to friends.
Cute funny sweet ........ wow I enjoyed this more than I thought I would it was just so bingable I started and finished it in a day
Struggling artist Cassie Greenberg finds a too-good-to-be-true apartment in Chicago's upscale neighborhood, suspecting her secretive roommate, Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, is hiding something. Soon, Cassie discovers Frederick's nocturnal habits and regency-style speech are just the tip of the iceberg—he's a vampire. Despite the shocking revelation, Frederick's genuine care for Cassie and his proposition add a twist to their unconventional living arrangement.
So, I've got some mixed feelings about My Roommate is a Vampire. On one hand, the whole forced roomie situation between Cassie and Frederick sets the stage for some pretty great moments, and I'm all for watching a relationship grow. But, it did drag a bit and didn't exactly leave me jumping for joy. I'd give it a solid three stars. If you're after a light-hearted read with some cute vibes, add it to your TBR, but if you're craving something with a bit more oomph, this might not be your best bet. It's got its fun moments and all, but nothing that'll have you shouting from the rooftops.
I thought I’d love this, but to be honest it fell really flat for me. Unfortunately took me 9 months to finish 😅 I try really hard not to DNF books especially arcs & this one pushed that limit!
This was very much an insta-love type vibe, and the entire relationship they were building felt dry, boring & felt as if they were young teenagers rather than adults.
Although this was based around a vampire it felt so much like an after thought, Frederick didn’t feel very well fleshed out and he seems to put cassie on a pedestal, she could do no wrong and it was 😴 it would have maybe been better having his pov, we go his messages & letters which didn’t really make much sense if we’re not getting his pov too.
The ending was odd, we had the threat of his mother the way through and then it just seemed to I don’t know, kind of just quickly resolved in such a weird way? I was confused majority of the last part.
In the end I listened to the last 50% on audio to get through it quicker on 3x speed and wasn’t overly impressed.
Thank you to the publishers for the arc via NetGalley.
This was such an easy read!! I loved it!
All the characters were really easy to love... even the grumpy neighbour at the end, but I this caused genuine glee and giggles when FJF was soo cute. Even to the end he is still CUTE! His lack of understanding of social situations and also social media, made me chuckle, but also his lack of understand of his own feelings. His character progression for strange cute vampire to Smokin' hot strange cute vampire was so well done. I even got to the point where I was expecting something silly and unknown to happen.
There were very clear definitions of what section what Texting and what section was story. It didn't distract and it almost felt like an additional sneak peek at something that only the characters would see.

This was the first paranormal romance book that I’ve read and it definitely won’t be the last! I absolutely loved this from Jenna Levine and I’m so excited to read more of her work.
This book was so much fun and has instantly become a new favourite for me. The characters were amazing, I loved seeing them get to know each other and then develop feelings. The resolution near the end was a little rushed but my enjoyment of the book was so high that didn’t matter to me
Thank you to NetGalley and penguin for an eArc of this book!
Wow! I absolutely devoured this book! I loved the main characters so much and could not wait to find out what happened.
I love paranormal romance so this was definitely my kind of book! I can’t wait to see what the author writes next!
unfortunately i dnfed this book. i tried to pick it up but struggled to stay interested. i will possibly try again in the future but it just wasn’t right for me now
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine. This was so funny and such an enjoyable read! I loved the vampires and the love story was so sweet and endearing. The writing style was great - I loved the use of mixed media in the form of emails, notes and text messages. Frederick was somehow both a vampire AND a prefect gentleman through every part of the book and Cassie was so funny and kindhearted.
I was really drawn in by the premise of this book!
Sadly, I struggled with it and it was a rare DNF for me.
I found the characters annoying and unbelievable, the dialogue very cheesy and the plot ridiculous. It definitely felt like I was reading YA rather than an adult paranormal contemporary romance. No rating on Goodreads as I couldn't get far enough I to it!
Funnily enough, this actually ended up being a book that I read for a book club as I had been meaning to read this ARC as well...
This was honestly such a fun and fast paced book that I read this quite quickly and over the course of the book I really enjoyed the little excerpts from Frederick's letters and diaries. This format of writing was honestly such a breath of fresh air, which really made the book very enjoyable. I went into this book with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. My favourite part of the book was obviously Frederick and how cute he was the entire time, cause we all know that the best partners are the ones that are himbos in a way and also just heads over heels. Though I must admit, the fact that the major conflict was resolved in such a way in the end kind of made the ending pretty anti-climatic. However, the characters do make up for it and especially the fact that we have our fl trying to not fall for Frederick and it happened either way ahhaaha
Anyway a fun read!!!
The book was very entertaining and funny. I loved the witty banter and did not mind that it was a bit predictable. Sometimes it is very comforting to know exactly what you get, and that is what this book is.
