Huge thanks to the publisher for this ARC, it was a really fun, easy read however, for me, I just wish there was a little bit more danger.

A fun, low drama, easy read. I would recommend this for people who enjoy romance books but want a break from angst and/or miscommunication. Really nice subplot about Cassie learning to believe in herself despite not being able to progress in her career and personal life in the way she wants. I think that will resonate with a lot of 20/30-somethings these days. A solid 4 stars. Really enjoyable.

Rating: 4/5

This book was everything that I wanted it to be; a cozy, paranormal story with minimal angst and the sweetest, slow burn romance. It’s stories like these that remind me that not everything requires paragraphs of backstory, and there’s plenty of joy to be found in simply going with the flow. If you saw the word ‘vampire’ in the title and are looking for something rich with the lore that surrounds that, then you might not enjoy this as much. However, if you love cute, fluffy romances with paranormal themes that are light and easy to read, then this is the book for you.

The story introduces us to Cassie Greenberg, a woman who is in desperate need of a new apartment to live in due to the impending eviction she faces at her current place. As a struggling artist, she hasn’t been able to secure an income that can fully support her and so when she comes across a listing for an apartment in a lovely neighbourhood that is worryingly cheap compared to what she is used to, she’s unsure if reaching out to the owner is in her best interest.

Enter Frederick, her new roommate, and as the title of this book will reveal, a vampire. I love that we’re in on this fact from the beginning as it removes any possibility of Frederick’s odd mannerisms being sinister in the slightest. He speaks as if he is from another time and the inside of his apartment is a mishmash of eras that confuse Cassie immensely. She might even question it more if it weren’t for how downright handsome he is, and maybe that’s why it’s easier for her to overlook some of his oddities.

When Cassie agrees to move in she also agrees to some strange rules, such as staying clear of a hallway closet and not disturbing Frederick as he sleeps during the day. She also agrees to his preferred form of communication, the sweetest hand-written notes that Frederick leaves for her each day. It becomes clear that he is a little clueless in these modern times; wi-fi is a foreign concept and ordering coffee is unnecessarily confusing to him, and so although there’s a lot for Cassie to gain in this extremely inexpensive home, there’s also a lot that Frederick can gain from her when it comes to getting by in the modern world.

Although this story is told from Cassie’s POV, I loved that the start of each chapter would provide us with an insight into Frederick’s mind, be it from text messages, diary entries or letters he has exchanged with others. This kept the story light as there was no big mystery to unravel and although this is definitely a slow burn, there’s a lot of tension between the two roommates and it was so much fun watching how they both dealt with that.

Overall, I really loved this book. I read it in one sitting and it had me smiling and laughing on a few occasions. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something light and sweet (with a little spice).

After seeing this title on social media, I've become curious, and I'm so glad its didn't disappointed.

Cassie is 32 years old and soon-to-be homeless, until her friend finds an advert on Craiglist for a room in a nice location of Chicago for only $200. Seems to good to be true, but after Cassie meets Frederick, the owner of the apartments, she accepts to move in. What she doesn't expect is for her roommate to be a vampire in need of a human to show him how to navigate the 21st century. There are a lot of hilarious situations and spice scenes between Cassie and Frederick. I enjoyed reading the book, but I was expecting more drama in dealing with Frederick's mom. I thought the problem was resolved quite easily.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC of 'My Roommate Is a Vampire' by Jenna Levine

'My Roommate Is a Vampire' by Jenna Levine was so fun and lighthearted with a bit of humour and some annoying people who don't want true love to happen because of "commitments" that happen decades ago. The best part was that Cassie found out almost instantly that he was a vampire instead of the usual: They split up at the end and then come back together. Good stuff.

"It was a hard thing to wrap my mind around. For starters, it seemed incredibly inefficient. Assuming his caloric requirements were roughly the same as a human of his size, how much blood did he have to drink every day?"

The real genius of this book is the title. It makes absolutely sure that from the start, the reader is in on the joke. And it is a brilliant, inside joke. theasy to root for and fit seamlessly into the roles and world created for them.
One of the major weaknesses I quickly found, is also one of the real joys - it is so deeply rooted in pop culture that I worry if I had read this even in just a couple of years time, it may well have felt out of date. There are references to TikTok, to specific memes, to Instagram, to Buffy, to JK Rowling drama. It does help to keep it engaging and relevant, and adds to the feeling of being 'in' on the joke, but I do fear that it will show it's age quickly.
That being said, I absolutely devoured it. I found it addictive, and regularly found myself grinning like a fool while reading. It's definitely not challenging, and there's no real tension built or resolved: the narrative instead darts from scene to scene, by turns sexy and hilarious. But sometimes you just need a break from tense, or challenging novels, and this is a wonderful little piece of escapism.

First of all I adore the cover, however the writing style was very dry for me and I often found myself bored at some points in the book. I couldn't really connect to the characters and i kept putting this book down as it wasn't really gripping me,

I liked the concept and it was a fun read! I really liked Fredericks texts and google searches etc.
However i found myself getting bored at some points and the ending was a tad anti-climactic and fell flat for me.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC.

I'll start by saying romance isn't my usual genre, but I loved the cover and was looking for a light/quick read. I expected the story to be a bit silly, but nothing actually happened above what had already been described in the synopsis. Very dry writing style and the characters were too one-dimensional for me to engage with.

I'm sure lots of people will find it a quick/fun read, but just not for me sadly.

Cassie Greenberg is quickly running out of options. With limited job prospects and an impending eviction, she is forced to apply for the spare room in a sketchy-sounding apartment. Fortunately, she is pleasantly surprised by the prospective roommate- the striking, if decidedly old-fashioned, Frederick J. Fitzwilliam. With his strange schedule meaning he sleeps through the daylight hours, Cassie is left to work on her art, but she cannot keep from wanting to know more about her new roommate. The more she learns, the harder it is to keep away.

This is a perfect example of a delightfully fun read. It incorporates the comforting tone of the genre with a light-hearted exploration of contemporary society: what is the trend for holes in jeans, why are there so many options for cookware, and why do people share photos of their breakfast foods online?

The easy writing style creates relatable and rootable characters, especially for the growing attraction between the protagonists. Their interactions are equal parts sweet, humorous and amorous. It can be noted that the narrative does centre around the pair, with limited exploration given to the supplementary characters. Whilst this makes them feel isolated, causing the main conflict to seem jarring, it does allow for an immersive relationship.

This is seen in the book's reliance upon cliches and established conventions: the love interest is swoon-worthily handsome, the male best friend has to be in a committed gay relationship (people can't just be friends), plus the protagonist needs to learn to keep valuing herself because others will realise her worth soon enough. It doesn't detract from the enjoyment, although it doesn't offer anything original to the genre.

Also, the resolution to the conflict is silly; it's fun but frivolous and lacks substance, making for a lacklustre conclusion to the story. The same can be said for the mostly formulaic epilogue; it provides further information for the characters yet adds little to the reader's understanding or expectation.

Crucially, however, this offers a great time. It isn't a romance that will remain with the reader for long, but it isn't trying to be. As such, Fitwilliams' transformation to modern man is rapid, with him overcoming many societal obstacles with little objection or resistance, yet in an endearing manner. Simply, it's an entertaining story.

I have heard so many great things about this book but unfortunately it was just an ok read for me. Author’s writing style wasn’t really for me but that’s just a me thing, I’m sure others will enjoy this.

All the fun of the vampire romances of my teens, without the teenage angst. This was light and fluffy and very sweet and I love the notes and letters throughout. It had me laughing out loud and I think the notes, text exchanges, and news articles at the start of the chapters were great for bringing the characters to life and driving the story forwards.

Frederick was adorable. I love this take on an awkward, inept vampire with slightly silly powers... but still smoking hot of course.

My only criticism was that I would honestly have enjoyed it being slightly longer. I think a little more intrigue before Cassie finds out his secret, and a more challenging third act development would have brought out more tension and made it harder for me to predict where it was going. I think Cassie slowly figuring it out and Frederick making comical excuses could have been very funny.

The concept was really interesting and had so much potential, but the book just didn’t provide that. It was really slow going and boring, the chemistry between characters felt forced and the main character spent too much time feeling sorry for herself. I skipped the last 50 pages because it was pretty obvious what was going to happen

An absolutely sweet, meet cute story of an artist and a vampire falling in love. Think Kate & Leopold, but if Leopold was a vampire! Frederick is such a cinnamon roll, struggling to adapt to modern society after being in slumber for a century. I need a whole book with just text messages between him & Reginald haha. I hope we get to see Reginald's story unfold next 🤞

Special thanks to Random House UK & Netgalley for providing me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review!

This is not the first vampire book I have read but it is indeed very different to the others. I really enjoyed how funny this book was and how I instantly connected to Cassie and Frederick.

I definitely recommend this book to others that enjoy reading about vampires

Thank you to Random House UK for my ARC through Netgalley! I really wanted to read this book!

My Roommate is a Vampire is an adorable, fresh and funny intake on the vampire falls for a human girl trope.

Cassie is a kind young woman who has a degree in art but could never find employment in the field. She is making ends meet with odd jobs working at a library and at a coffee shop. She needs to find a new place to stay and when she’ll answer a “too good to be true” offer for an apartment, she’ll be met by the sexiest man she’s ever seen, even if he dresses like the nobles from Downtown Abbey and talks like them too!
Fredrick J Fitzwilliam will be disconcerted by Cassie’s disheveled appearance, paint splatter and all but he has not many choice and they will soon learn to share his apartment.
And what if Fredrick has some rooms Cassie can’t enter? Or if he lives at night? And talks as people from the last century?
He is still pretty decent.
But the day Cassie discovers bags of blood, the cat is out of the bag! Fredrick is a vampire!

This story is a romantic comedy and even a satire at times so don’t expect overpowering alpha male vampires and sex kitten heroine!
No, Fredrick J Fitzwilliam was just a charming and vulnerable vampire, looking very sexy but more akin to a sweet puppy than a terrible monster! You can’t help falling for a vampire watching K Drama! He was kind and considerate to Cassie.
And God knows Cassie needed the confidence boost! Because she’s been rejected for her art so many times that she has zero confidence in her ability to create something appealing to others.
I felt sorry for Cassie as it is so hard to earn a living as an artist while staying true to your conviction.

I loved that they talked through notes left in the kitchen (cue The Flatshare vibes) that Cassie illustrated with cartoonish Fredrick and Cassie!
And the messages Fredrick sent to Reginald, his friend, had me laughing so hard! These were probably my favorite part of the story.

Their love story looked like a very long meet cute, slowly going towards heated territory.

The only thing that made me lower my rating was a twist at the end to resolve some drama. I found that very far-fetched and too improbable.

But that element aside, I did had a good time reading this story in record time!

This was a cute and fun, short read.

Frederick was such a ridiculous character and a thoroughly enjoyed watching him trying to navigate through modern life, the rest of the characters I kind of struggled to appreciate and I think if it wasn't for Frederick I may have DNF'd.

The final conflict of the book just was downright silly and wasn't very believable at all. I skimmed the last section just to get through but I think that was a me problem and other people would enjoy the book a lot more than I did.

Cassie is looking for a new apartment as she's being evicted from her current home, and she finds an ad for a roommate at $200 a month in Chicago which instantly raises red flags as this is way too low for the area! But beggars can't be choosers so she takes the room and meets her new roommate - Frederick. He dresses in 3-piece suits, carries a pocket watch and keeps his oddly decorated apartment dark at all times. He tells her he sleeps from 5am - 5pm and generally leaves the apartment in the evening to conduct his business.

One night, Cassie returns to the apartment to find the fridge full of blood bags and confronts Frederick on this. He tells her he is a vampire but that he would never hurt her and only steals blood from blood banks to survive, rather than maiming humans. She runs. But then a couple of days later decides to give him another chance and agrees to hear him out. After Frederick tells her that he's been in a coma for 100 years (but doesn't really give any further information), she agrees to help him navigate the 21st century. Cassie moves back in and they work together to teach Frederick the ways of the world now.

It's clear they're both attracted to each other and when they kiss (for science purposes or course) it's clear that both feel the same way about each other. From this point things speed up quite quickly and they end up in bed together in a well-written steam scene, but then Frederick is kidnapped by his mother and his fiancé's family. Cassie comes up with a plan to rescue him and they all live happily ever after.

I enjoyed the story but the build up took quite awhile for them to get together around the 80% mark and then everything was sped up and felt very rushed. The kidnapping and Cassie's plan to rescue Frederick took more time to plan than execute and the whole thing felt like a bit of a let down when she turned up at the house and within minutes Frederick has been released. I expected a little more of a back and forth with the vampires keeping him hostage but they relented extremely quickly.

I also felt the ending was a little rushed. After Frederick is rescued, it jumps forward a year and we see Cassie in a new job and the idea that she might also become a vampire in order to stay with Frederick forever. Is there going to be a sequel that explores this part? Who knows! But if there were, I would definitely read it and hopefully it won't be quite as rushed as this one.

This was such a fun quick and easy read. It has a slow burn romance which I love as well as having a little bit of spice.

Frederick is perfect as the cinnamon roll vampire who is trying to navigate the modern world after being asleep for a 100 years and Cassie this quirky struggling artist who finds herself as his roommate through an ad on Craigslist.
There were some parts that were so sweet and others that had me laughing out loud.

If you’re looking for a sweet and cozy rom-com then I highly recommend this debut novel, I throughly enjoyed it.
