Have you ever read The Flatshare and thought "ok cool, but where are the vampires?" If so, so I have a book for you.
This book was utterly charming. The growing chemistry between Frederick and Cassie was just adorable, and I liked how even if we didn't get chapters from his POV we still got snippets from his brain.
This is also a rare book without a third act breakup, but don't think that means that the ending is boring or without drama.
I did have a couple of niggles about this book. Sometimes Frederick seemed to slip out of character into something more akin to a modern man, and some of the things he said and did seemed to come too easily for him when they were things he would have never done in his lifetime. Despite those slight issues I just loved this book; cute romance, loveable characters and vampires. What more could I want?
I liked how I laughed at this story more than once. Usually your male vampire is set as this strong macho man who never shows emotion but Frederick was the complete opposite which was a breath of fresh air. I feel like the ending could have been better and there wasn’t much depth to the storyline in general however it was an easy read romantic comedy and I liked that as sometimes that’s exactly what I’m feeling in the mood for.
This was a fun quirky book! Cassie was a really likeable character and I found myself rooting for her to believe in her self more! Frederick was fun, he had some funny views and comments about the 21st century after being asleep for 100 years!! I loved his frenemy friendship with Reginald too! This is a perfect quick read if you’re into Vampires and a cute little romcom!

THIS BOOK! A cute, cozy, fluffy rom-com that will make you simultaneously laugh and melt! I devoured it in a day, and I'm "head over fangs" with it!
The book follows Cassie, a struggling artist, and Frederick, a centuries-old vampire with no clue how to navigate the modern world.
All the characters were super loveable! Cassie was such a down-to-earth gal, and FREDERICK🫠😍 - the most wholesome, cute, and old-fashioned gentleman and overall just a cinnamon bun of a vampire! I cannot tell you how many times I laughed out loud because of him!
There were really great supporting characters as well, like Reginald, Frederick's bestie, who was both funny and creepy and an all-around troll(based on that ending, I really hope we get a book about him!😅)
Definitely give this book a read if you are looking for a pick-me-up or, a cozy rom-com. I believe it is out on the 28th of September!
Thank you, Netgalley , Penguin Books , Century Books , and Jenna Levine, for providing me with an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
My Roommate is a Vampire is a contemporary romance novel with a twist, and a really fun one at that. The main character, Cassie, is looking for an apartment and finds a very cheap one in a great area but thinks it may be too good to be true. When she goes to view the apartment, she meets Frederick, her soon-to-be new roommate. He has strange habits like sleeping during the day and dressing/talking in a very old-fashioned way, but she thinks nothing of this until she discovers blood in the fridge and Frederick is forced to come clean and admit that he is a vampire. I found the love story in the book to be very cute and well-written, and I would love to read more about the two characters (and the side characters!) as I thought their interactions from start to end were really interesting. I couldn’t put this book down! I’d definitely recommend this to anyone interested in vampires like I am, as Frederick adapting to modern human society was amusing to read about, and I liked him as a love interest for Cassie because of how caring he was towards her. I’m very grateful I had the chance to read this book early because I really enjoyed it and think others will enjoy it too!
3.5*
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.
My Roommate is Vampire is a cute play on some classic romance tropes, reminiscent of The Flatshare but with a supernatural twist.
The book started off slow and I think that, in part, for me came from the fact that desperate women with desperate financial situations, holding out for their dream job, is cropping up a lot. And, dammit, I’m here for escapism!
I enjoyed the humour in this store and its lightheartedness. A quick summer fling for any supernatural romance fan
Give me a vampire romcom any day and I will eat it up!!! Fun contemporary paranormal books are my fave and when you make it a spicy romance: 😚
Oh I just loved this!! Cassie and Frederick were both perfect. I loved how Cassie actually had a freak out when she found out he’s a vampire but all their little moments were just too cute! And this is without a doubt one of the funniest books I’ve read - it had so many genuine laugh out loud moments and I have so many quotes that I want to share but they’re all spoilers! The entire premise is just so good and I loved all the little side plots, particularly with Cassie’s career.
But the book wouldn’t have worked without darling Reginald. I love him. He was so funny, I love how much he basically fucked Frederick over all the time but was still there for him. Now while I hate celebs doing those stupid travel shows, I would totally watch one with these two: anyone up for Freddie and Reggie’s Nocturnal Travels??
The only thing for me was that the ending felt quite rushed to me and was over so quickly, but it didn’t really take away from the rest of the book. Now the epilogue!! Honestly this was exactly how I was hoping it would end and I’m so happy!! It was so cute and perfect!
I think we all need a funny romance now and again (at least once a week in my case lol) to just make us happy and not stress us out and this is perfect 🥰
This book was great. So unserious, i loved it. I need like a prequel novella and a sequel novella and so much more info about these vampires but also, it was great as it was.
I really thorougly enjoyed reading this and I cant wait to read more from Jenna!

Thank you NetGalley and Random House UK for the ARC.
Since I first saw promotion for My Roommate is a Vampire I had been looking forward to reading it. Vampires? Forced proximity? Slow burn romance? Take my money! Or in this case, please give me an ARC!
On receiving that approval e-mail, MRIAV shot to the top of my reading list!
Levine gave me exactly what I was expecting and, at the same time, this novel was so different than I imagined. I don't think it's giving too much away to say that the reveal of Frederick's "condition" came much earlier in the book than I was expecting, as did their attraction to one another. I loved the little detail of having Frederick's text messages or journal entries and letters starting the chapters, and it was adorable to see him grappling with his feelings for Cassie.
Their relationship developed in a believable way (as believable as a relationship between a vampire and human can be), even to reaction to his big secret and how she handled it. Frederick's confusions at the modern world was endearing and made you want to jump into the pages and help him find his way in the modern world.
The only negative I have is that the crisis wrapped up so quickly that I had to double back over that page to make sure I hadn't missed anything. It all felt a little too neat and left me wanting more which is the reason for 3.5 stars.
I do hope Levine will write more of Fredrick and Cassie, as I would love to see more of him navigating the modern world and of their relationship as time progresses and Cassie has to make a big decision.
What I loved about this book:
🧛 vampire/human romance
🛋️ roommates to lovers
👫 forced proximity
🔥 slow burn
❤️🔥 lots of tension
This was a super cute read! Frederick, a centuries old vampire wakes up after a 100 year coma/spell gone wrong and has to learn about life in the 22st century. Enter Cassie, his new roommate! Ignoring all the red flags, Cassie doesn’t know she’s living with a vampire initially, until she discovers a fridge full of blood. Their relationship was sweet and funny. Cassie and Frederick’s growth was realistic and lovely, especially as they helped each other reach their full potential.
At times, I found the writing a tad dry, but it was a wonderful story!
Thanks to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Are you looking for a book that is a mix of romcom, vampires, Twilight, and What We Do In The Shadows? Then this is the book for you. Everyone who knows me knows I love a vampire book, so I may be a bit biased, but this is definitely a great standalone worthy of a read. There's funny moments, emotional moments, and times when you won't want to put the book down. It's an easy read that I was able to read in one sitting and didn't have to put much thought into understanding.
This was SO cute and I really enjoyed it. Frederick was such a loveable character and there were some laugh out loud moments with some great spicy scenes.
Sadly, I had to knock off a star for the resolution to the conflict towards the end of the story which I found far-fetched and silly.
That being said I would love to see a sequel in the future so fingers crossed for more Cassie and Frederick content!
OMG, "MY ROOMMATE IS A VAMPIRE" is, like, the best love story ever! It's soooo cute, funny, and totally magical. It's got all the feels, and it's so hot it'll make you melt. It's all about love, not just romance, but also friendship, art, and loving yourself. Cassie is like, so relatable, she's a mess but so lovable. And Frederick J. Fitzwiliam, omg, he's the vampire of my dreams, dressed to perfection! This book is, like, amazing, and I can't wait for Levine's next story!
After seeing this all over bookstagram I knew it would be perfect for me and it was! A lighthearted tension filled romance - no it won’t win any awards for original plot or incredible writing but an excellent escapist read!
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Unless it is this one because look how cute it is!
I was lucky enough to get this ARC from net galley and really enjoyed reading this. It is such a silly, funny, paranormal, rom-com. I was genuinely laughing at this the whole way through. What a great debut novel.
We meet budding artist cassie who is scraping to get by, so has to move in with strange but hot Frederick. Only to find out he is actually a very socially inept vampire. Their relationship is so wholesome and I definitely was not expecting the spice!
I’m not sure if there will be another book about Reginald but would love to read it if there is!
This book is an absolute blast, just the right amount of humour and delivering a perfect blend of romance with a little bit of spice. Just picture a vampire Frederick, awakening after a century-long slumber, utterly bewildered by the complexities of modern life. Naturally, he decides to acquire a roommate to guide him through simple tasks like tying a tie or ordering a cup of coffee.
This roommate turns out to be Cassie, with her art and her life still in the process of unfolding, embodies delightful chaos in the best way possible. Her friends appear to have it all together, but Cassie, fiercely independent, is determined to find her own path without relying too heavily on their assistance.
The relationship between Cassie and Frederick is utterly endearing as they navigate their modernity lessons, using them as a means to truly get to know one another, building a solid friendship that inevitably blossoms into a love.
Firstly, a big thank you for the ARC of this book, in exchange for a honest review.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. The premise was different and it started off strong. Cassie, a young, down on her luck woman who needs a place to stay spots a too good to be true apartment listing. Enter Frederick, a mysterious, handsome man who sleeps all day and doesn't have any kitchen equipment... I'm sure you can guess where it's going!
I thought the characters had some chemistry and thought Cassie was well written. Frederick however had moments of being almost like a baby which didn't suit him. I know he is supposed to feel like a fish out of water in this modern world, but the way he acted was sometimes jarring.
As I mentioned, the plot starts off strong but unfortunately becomes weaker towards the end...almost like it's run out of steam. The introduction of the conflict between the characters was good and interesting, but the resolution I found very naff and disappointing. It was over far too quickly and the way it was resolved was ultimately a bit meh.
The ending is annoying, as I really did enjoy this book and could really get to love the characters!
I really enjoyed this take on a vampire romance, with a quirky rom com feel or left me feeling warm and fuzzy. The story took me on a journey of emotions.
As someone who normally reads a darker vampire romance I find this take on it very lighthearted and refreshing yet still with the sprinkle of paranormal I love.
Following Cassie and Fredrick trying to navigate living together whilst falling for each other was fun and full of tension. This is a slow burn romance where this is a high level of tension and angst throughout. Which makes it even more gratifying when range finally decide to share their feelings for each other.
I really enjoyed this read. Jenna Levine tied in some of my favourite vampire mythology, and who doesn’t love Buffy. She managed to portray a 300 year old vampire trying to navigate the 21st century with charm and decorum and you really felt Fredrick’a struggling in trying to understand the new and modern world.

This was absolutely ridiculous.
And great fun.
It’s the perfect summer read, (which is typical because it’s released at the end of summer) and it’s just one of those books where you don’t have to think—you’re just along for the ride.
My kindle stats say that it took me an hour and a half to read—the perfect quick book!
There isn’t much in the way of plot, but Cassie and Fredrick more than make up for it.
The situations they get themselves into...and just Fredrick in general is hilarious!
There were so many moments when I was smiling or laughing at the two of them.
Cassie is such a sunshine...she’s a painter, and the way she sees the world is fascinating.
Fredrick, on the other hand...he’s so stiff and awkward!
There are so many moments I want to mention—but can’t because of spoilers, but let me just say...these vampires are a little different...
On the romance side of things, it was basically a romcom—BUT WITH A VAMPIRE. And we all know vampires make everything much better.
Their love story was sweet and fun...exactly what I’d expect from these two sweethearts.
While I haven't finished it yet its very promising and I'm enjoying it a lot. I connected with the characters and can't wait for any thing else by this author
