Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House UK for the ARC!

When I saw the title and cover, I know that of course I had to read this and I was so grateful to get a copy to review.

We follow Cassie, who is an artist trying to survive whilst working part time jobs and is in need of a new place to live with her landlord kicking her out. She answers an ad for a Chicago apartment at an obscenely low price, which is where we're introduced to our MMC, Frederick.

As the title suggests, Frederick is a vampire. This, as you might except, causes some hilarious oddities to begin with as they begin to navigate their new world as roommates. I won't spoil any of the plot, but I really enjoyed the characters here.

Cassie was sweet and pretty open minded about everything, with a passion for her art that was admirable. Even though others might not understand it, she herself understands that and doesn't expect others to pamper to her or fawn over it. At the same time, she's more than okay with defending herself and her artwork. Her best friend, Sam, was sweet with his worry for her and his protectiveness, but I did like how he didn't force her with anything. He let her work things out for himself.

Frederick was adorably sweet with his fish out of water personality. He was well spoken and dressed, with impeccable manners as you might expect for someone from his era and it led to some hilarious accidents. His apron was fantastic - if you know, you know. I loved how willing he was to learn, even if he thought it was stupid or didn't understand why he was doing something. His openness to things was nice, and it's interesting to think of a vampire having to adjust to modern society. His friend, Reginald, was hilarious and clearly far more integrated into 21st century. The juxtaposition was great.

I will say that the romance itself felt oddly paced. It kept going from crawling to 100 really fast, and I didn't really get an understanding of how much time had passed. Had it been days? Weeks? Months? No idea, I couldn't really tell. But it seemed very fast for the intensity of the feelings, so I was unsure on how believable I felt all the romance to be. The sex scene was perhaps the best I've read in a romance book in a while - it was suitably attractive without overstaying its welcome.

The ending also felt a little rushed. I'd say the writing of this book was really good and it was easy to read, but the pacing was a little all over the place. Things seemed to slow and speed up before slamming to a halt. Overall, though, it was an enjoyable rom com!

If you’d told me last week that I needed to read The Flatshare but with vampires I’d have laughed at you, but here we are.
Cassie is a down on her luck artist looking for a cheap room to rent, along comes a suspiciously cheap listing on Craigslist, the rest is history.
I really loved the dynamic between Cassie and Freddie, it’s not quite grumpy x sunshine but it’s in that wheelhouse. He needs her teach him about life in the 21st century and she’s not particularly happy about most of it.
One thing that really got to me though, Fred is supposed to have been asleep for 100 years. Which would mean he was awake and alert in 1920(ish), which makes his whole 1700s persona incredibly anachronistic and the history buff in me was not amused. People in 1920 knew that cars existed.
Apart from that a very fun, easy read.

This was one of my top anticipated reads and I'm so happy to have received a NetGalley arc. What can I say, I-loved-this-book!

Cassie is a visionary artist struggling to find her place and establish herself within her respective field. She works a mish-mash of jobs to make ends meet and finds herself facing eviction at the begining of this story.

Frederick meanwhile is a 350 year old vampire with absolutely no clue how to fit into 21st century society. He advertises his spare room in the local ads in order to find someone that he can observe and with the room going for so cheap, Cassie can't refuse the opportunity.

From the instant Cassie moves into Frederick's ostentatious and eccentric apartment there is a palpable (and frankly adorable) attraction between the two of them and it's clear it's only a matter of time until the lines between roommates, and human/vampire relations, are blurred...

What a cute and cozy story full of laugh out loud moments. I particularly enjoyed all the pop culture references especially those involving Buffy the Vampire slayer. Oh and the text exchanges between Reginald and Frederick too. The snippets at the begining of each chapter, whether it was Frederick's diary extracts, letters, text exchanges between Freddy and Reggie had me finding it pretty much impossible to put the book down at the end of a chapter without needing to jump into the next chapter. That was a superb touch in a single POV story in my opinion. I fell in love with these characters. The pace was perfect, the storyline gripping and the tension between these characters was deliciously delightful! This will definitely be in my list of cozy comfort reads to revisit when the mood strikes or the temperate drops, whichever comes first!

I wanted to like this book, but I really struggled with it, mostly because I didn’t like the characters. The storyline was an interesting idea and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I liked the characters. I didn’t particularly like Cassie, and I disliked Frederick. I know he’s supposed to be old-fashioned, but I just found him to be rude and unlikeable. With a storyline like this one, likeable characters is a big part of what makes the book enjoyable. Although I’m sure some people will like this book, it just wasn’t for me and I had to DNF at 50%.

I was hoping for a lighthearted romantic comedy and this delivered. If you’d like a story that doesn’t take itself seriously and be caught unaware by the humour, this is just the book. My only gripe with the book is the ending, I was expecting more but it’s also nice to have a story that isn’t overly dramatic for the sake of it. It’s such an easy read, I finished it one sitting.

"My Roommate is a Vampire" by Jenna Levine is a fun romantic comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Cassie gets kicked out of her apartment and needs somewhere cheap to live. Fredrick has been asleep for 100 years and doesn't understand inflation. The two come together quickly and try out being roommates. And after a little while, they develop feelings.

Yes, there are some hurdles to overcome but Levine doesn't spoil our enjoyment of the key romance by adding a lot of drama. At no point does this become a "page turner" but the romance is sweet and the characters and their misunderstandings keep you reading.

I'm already looking forward to the teased next book in what I hope becomes a series!

My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is a lighthearted, enjoyable, easy read! Perfect for fans of fantasy RomComs…with a sprinkle of spice!

Cassie Greenberg is a young, aspiring artist from Chicago, desperate to make a living doing what she enjoys most. But when certain events make her broke and homeless she goes in search of cheap accommodation. She stumbles upon Frederick J Fitzwilliam on Craigslist, advertising a room in his apartment. Advising that he will be asleep in the day and working in the evenings. With an unbelievably low price, Cassie decides to move in. However, the longer she’s there, the more she realises how unique Frederick is. He leaves her fruit. Writes her beautiful cursive letters every day, rather than texting. And advises her of a mysterious room she isn’t allowed to enter. All of this comes to heads when she stumbles upon a refrigerator full of donated bags of blood. Frederick is a vampire. And yet, this only seems to make her interest in him grow. As feelings build between them, will Frederick and Cassie be able to put their differences aside? Will Cassie be able to help Frederick in the modern world? Or will outside forces bring their world crashing down?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, Jenna did an awesome job resurrecting my love for vampire fiction. The whole premise of Frederick needing a teacher through the 21st century and reading about him experiencing certain things for the first time was truly great and made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion!

And the romance! Admittedly, it was ever so slightly predictable but this didn’t affect my desire to reach the end of the book and discover Frederick and Cassies’ ending. It was so incredibly modern and oddly relatable, what Frederick thought of a few modern factors especially made me chuckle.

As I said earlier, it’s such an easy, enjoyable read! Perfect for a summer day spent in the sun or when you’re curled up in a blanket in the winter. My only question now is, are we going to get a book about Reginald? And if so, will Frederick and Cassie make an appearance?

Thank you Jenna and the publishing team for allowing me to read the arc for this book! Would recommend to anyone wanting to dive into or reignite their love for vampire fiction.

my roommate is a vampire is somehow the softest, sexiest, giggliest and most satisfying book i have read in forever. it has absolutely everything a love in not only a romance novel, but any novel in general, and jenna levine absolutely smashed it out of the park.

when i say everything, i mean it!

- the sweetest vampire whoever existed
- the funkiest artist who handled her aloofly attentive roommate being a vampire incredibly well
- smut that made my jaw drop
- smut that also made me say awwwwww
- a plot so funny that it’s perfect
- an supernatural age gap
- fruit! (hehe)
- REGINALD (he deserves his own essay, the side characters are *chef’s kiss*)

and more and more and more! ‘your pots and pans are being repaired?’ cassie greenberg and ‘yours in good health, frederick j. fitzwilliam’ exceeded all my expectations. i picked up this book and couldn’t put it down. every time i had to close the book, i itched to get back. it’s the most delightfully sexy romcom you’ll this this year, maybe this decade, and i am desperate to get my hands on anything else jenna levine. i can’t believe this is a debut. if i could bottle how happy this book made me feel and drink, i’d be happy for the rest of my life.

incredibly excited for spooky szn so i can read it all over again in spooky october darkness.

if you could pick up only one romance this year, i urge you to pick this one!

Such a fab debut book! Was it perfect ? No, could a few bits have been tidied up ? Yes , but you’re not going into this for a perfectly written masterpiece you’re going into it for a fun romance read! I love a bit of vampy fun, thankfully this isn’t twilight vampy so I enjoyed it that bit more. Feel good, adorable & fast paced.

This is a five-star read that is worth a nibble. I am so surprised that this was a debut novel, it made sense afterwards as there were a couple of points that could have been polished, but the overall was so well done I didn’t care. You have to put reality and relationship realism to the side as you read this, but I hope most people would understand that as it’s a vampire story, but who knows maybe the vampires reading this would get the jokes. It was just adorable watching FJF come to terms with the new reality of life, after a century of slumber, the world moves so quickly that ten years would be bad enough, but a whole century would really blow. The thing is the fact that FJF lived in such different times, his sheer politeness really made the story pull together, I think it was that attitude that allowed our dear Cassie to come to some realisations about herself and how she sees herself, a really nice point that I feel lots could do in these trying times. If you want to lose yourself in a captivating and fun story, then pick this one up, if vampires and silliness isn’t for you then avoid and pick up a history book instead.

I was attracted to this book by the title, so I was already on board with the idea that Fitzwilliam is a vampire - unfortunately it took a good third of the book for Cassie to find out, which made it a little slow for me. I really enjoyed the writing style but this book didn't quite hit the spot for me and I'm sorry for that - purely a personal view. I real a lot of paranormal romance and I'd say this was an introduction to the genre rather than a hardcore version. That said the premise was highly original and I did want to know what happened. Just not a book for me.

This was a fun, quick read which follows Cassie and Frederick and their journey as roommates. I would definitely recommend this book if you want a cheesy, romcom, however there were some issues I found that meant this wasn't more than 3 stars for me.

Personally, I found the plot of this story quite underdeveloped and full of plot holes. However, if you go into this book for a fun romance it's definitely still enjoyable. The premise of the book was so exciting to me and while the author did technically follow through with the general idea of 'my roommate is a vampire', I felt like ideas were being thrown left, right and center and nothing was actually being developed. There were multiple points where things were mentioned and then never brought up again, or only re-brought up when it became relevant which was a shame. Additionally, I felt like there was quite a few lines that were just so cut and paste. They felt like they had been included purely for the 'trope' or even just because they'd worked in other books, and while they didn't necessarily not work, it just felt very jarring to read in places. On top of all this I felt like the characters were very 'blueprint', especially Cassie. But again it wasn't a major issue and didn't stop the book from being enjoyable, it just did stop it from being anything life changing.

That all being said, if you enjoy fun, easy books and aren't too worried about the overriding plot, this is perfect for you. I did still love the vampire aspect of it and there were definitely parts of it that had me hooked! I just wished the characters had felt a bit more developed and the plot followed through a little bit more. I will definitely be giving any future books by Levine a go, and I'm excited to watch her writing develop!

This book was so much fun! I loved Fredericks stumbling through modern life, whilst falling for Cassie along the way. I loved every moment of this book, and will for sure read whatever Jenna Levine brings out next!

My Roommate is a vampire

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the E-Arc.

This was a fast paced read with a bit of a rushed ending sadly, loved the letters and the similarities to the flatshare however this did fall slightly flat for me as the characters and plot seemed slightly rushed.

Definitely an easy light hearted read!

Enjoyable, easy read, I found that the ending was really quickly established and resolved which was a bit frustrating. But the build up between Cassie and Frederick was done well.

This book was hilarious, let me tell you! It wasn’t the best written book on the planet and it definitely wasn’t anything new but OH LORD how fun and cute ‘My roommate is a vampire’ was! It’s a fast paced slow burn (yes they do exist) with a banter that will make you giggle like crazy. Two main characters- Frederick and Cassie, are both very likeable and relatable, especially their struggle to fit in with the society they’re a part of. I loved watching them grow fond of each other and realise they actually have feelings for their housemate. Seeing them finally act on them (obviously only for scientific purposes) was even more delightful! I usually dislike slow burns but I haven’t even realised this was a slow burn while reading it. Their teasing and the way they just acted when they were together was like eating the most delicious meal that never ends with a hunger that never gets satisfied! Reading this book was the best thing I had done to help me overcome my reading slump! ‘My roommate is a vampire’ was a glorious trip to my teenage years and my vampire obsession, and I’m so glad I could get an arc of this book! Massive thanks to NetGalley for accepting my request ❤️

What an adorable fun read!

If the cover wasn't enough to convince you, let me confirm: this was absolutely hilarious and adorable. "My roommate is a vampire" is the perfect cozy romance read that will have you giggling with every page.

The female MC and the li each are so entertaining on their own but together they make for a dorky adorable duo that you can't help to love and root for! Such a good read, recommended for days when you're feeling under the weather.

Was this cheesy and a bit cliche? Sure. But did I enjoy it? Most of it.

We first meet Cassie, a struggling artist, on her search for an apartment when her friend, Sam stumbles across an ad for an apartment that costs only $200 a month. Enter Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, owner of the apartment. With a name like that, you expect him to be old. And you would be correct, he just happens to be a 300 year old vampire. He is very out of touch with modern society. When his secret gets out to Cassie, things change quickly between them and she learns he requires her help.

For me, Frederick was my favourite character in this book, alongside Reginald who I wished we got to see more of within the book. I loved the scenes between him and Cassie when she attempts to teach him about modern culture and society even though he is getting frustrated about it. However, I couldn't quite warm to Cassie. I felt like she acted more in her early to mid twenties than in her thirties.

The dynamic between Frederick and Reginald was amusing and offered an another side to Frederick's character that we don't get to see much of. The multimedia was definitely an interesting aspect of this part and paid off. However the romance was based on very little foundations. I'm not a big fan of insta love so this is probably another reason why I wasn't completely sold on the romance between them.

I would've loved to have seen the lore around the vampires much more, it just seemed like the vampire aspect was more an afterthought. Like one mention of the vampire hunters and that's it? Additionally, I think this book would've worked better with a dual POV. The plot itself started out interesting and I enjoyed the idea of "vampire needs help to learn modern society" but the last chapters felt rushed and not necessary. One particular part felt out of place.

However, this novel is a light-hearted and fun romcom that is easy to read so if that's something you're looking for then I would say to give it a read.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately this wasn’t for me.
I’m sure lots of people will love it but I couldn’t get on with the writing style.
It all felt quite surface and I didn’t connect with the characters.
Some of the vampire cluelessness bits were really funny, I really wish we’d had more of Frederick’s point of view, than just some diary entries.Might have made me feel the connection between them more.
A really fun idea, which was what drew me to it. Just didn’t quite work for me personally and wasn’t quite an original enough take on the vampire romance genre.

This was so cute and fun! I love everything vampire related and I’ve not ready any sort of chick lit/romance featuring a vampire before so this was a new one for me.

I absolutely loved Fredrick and the mixed media of the story (texts, letters etc). I found the main character hard to relate to, but I still enjoyed the book and the relationship they formed.
