I think this is probably really fun but the file is either faulty or something as large chunks are missing letters and it’s unreadable. Unfortunately having to dnf because of this

Ahhh I loved this so much!! From start to finish it had me. Effortlessly enjoyable and it did not let me down.

I loved getting to know Cassie and she was a great character. The plot and story was so entertaining and it was so easy to read. I never wanted to put it down and couldn’t stop reading, especially towards the end. I also wanted to slow it down so it wouldn’t end so quickly but I failed in that massively and read it in a few days.

The notes between Frederick and Cassie were everything. Ugh it was so sweet, and the entire book was just like being enveloped in one big cosy hug. I was either smiling like an idiot or cooing over the adorable dynamic between Cassie and Frederick. Loved it.

Also lobbying for a spin off book with Reginald because he seems like such an interesting character and he needs a spotlight!

I was drawn in by the name and the cover art, and the story and writing itself did not disappoint. A book I would happily read over and over again.

This was okay. Needs another edit though. Several missed words and text messages in the wrong place (sender/receiver etc). Fairly basic. It was an okay read but wouldn't go out of my way to recommend.

I was initially intrigued by the novel’s front cover, which suggested a funny and light-hearted romcom with an interesting blurb. I liked the novel’s concept where a human and a vampire live in close proximity that has the opportunity to create tense and dramatic dynamics and flirtation. I was surprised that Frederick’s secret of being a vampire was revealed very early on in the plot. The way that Cassie discovers this secret felt incongruous and strange. Before this big reveal, Cassie doesn’t have any inclination or second thought to her roommate’s strange behaviour and nocturnal habits, aside from thinking he's a potential murderer. Considering the character’s love for 'Buffy the vampire slayer' and openness to the idea of the supernatural, she didn’t appear to take much in of her surroundings. I was hoping that Cassie would discover drops of blood or discarded blood packets that hinted at something a little off before the big reveal.

The dynamic between Frederick and Reginald was amusing and offered an alternative side to Frederick’s character that isn’t just the attractive male roommate. The inclusion of the text messages between the two characters added depth to their relationship and solidified Frederick’s vulnerabilities of being inept at fitting into modern society of the twenty-first century. The diary entries and letters of Frederick and Cassie enriched their growing friendship and trust with one another. However, the romance was too fast and was built on very little foundations. I think a deeper exploration into Cassie’s background, not just as an artist struggling to find work, but her family life or potentially not fitting into the world would have built a stronger foundation for the later romance. Frederick’s history and life as a vampire was vague and could have been used to enrich the story and how difficult it was for him to be thrown into a world so foreign to him through emotional outbursts. The scenes where Cassie helps Frederick fit-in to modern society at the coffee shop, Sam’s party and using public transport highlighted a space of trust between the two characters, but Frederick didn’t appear to have any failings in these situations – he didn’t cause an embarrassment for himself that made him question whether he could actually find a place within society again – he was just a little odd.

The novel’s exposition was weak, the idea that one TikTok video could destroy a 400 hundred year old vampire’s reputation plays on the idea that these vampires are all inept at understanding the modern world. But Reginald and Miss Jameson are aware and involved in social media and the workings of the modern world. Furthermore, Cassie is not placed in any danger when confronting Edwina Fitzwilliam and her clan to save Frederick. Considering these are bloodthirsty vampires who bite humans, Cassie is unfazed. I would have expected a confrontation of the old vs new – old world tactics and modern thinking for a final showdown.

The novel is a light-hearted and a fun romcom that is easy-to-read and provides many references to popular culture that are amusing for the reader. I enjoyed the unusual romance between Cassie and Frederick and the idea of a vampire being completely helpless in the modern world. ‘My roommate is a vampire’ is addictive and leaves the reader hungry for more.
