Life is not going great for Cassie, she’s working multiple jobs and is about to be evicted. She’s desperately searching for somewhere else to live within her small budget, when she comes across a listing for a roommate. It’s in the nice side of town and it’s only $200 a month, something must be wrong with it.. right?
I enjoyed this book but the ending felt quite rushed so that dropped my rating slightly.
I loved the text exchanges between Frederick and Reggie, they were so funny and probably the best part of the book. I wish we’d seen more of Reggie but I suspect he’ll be getting his own book? I also enjoyed Frederick’s diary entries and even his exchanges with his mother, I think the book would have benefited from his POV because the small snippets we saw at the beginning of each chapter just weren’t enough. He was a total cinnamon roll of a vampire!
Overall I did really enjoy it, there are just a few things I would have changed to make it a 4-5⭐️ read for me personally. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.
Read if you like-
• roommate romance
• roommates to friends to lovers
• paranormal romance (kind of)
• single POV

Firstly, thank you to @randomhouseuk and @netgalley and the author for the review copy of My Roommate is a Vampire.
Cassie is pretty broke and jumps at the chance when she sees a fabulous room on Craig’s List for $200 a month. Her new roommate seems eccentric and strange, and as the title suggests, there’s something very different about him.
This book was just a good old time. It’s written in a fast paced way, each chapter beginning with some form of multi media to carry the plot forward eg. text messages, letters, emails etc.
It is hilarious btw, like laugh out loud funny at points. I always love the narrative of someone unfamiliar navigating the modern world, be it an alien or Thor or in this case, a vampire who’s been in a deep coma for 100 years and needs a human to help him fit in.
I really enjoyed the characters - even Cassie, which is rare for me in a rom com because often the female lead is either stupid or timid - neither of which is the case for Cassie. Her decisions made sense but you definitely need to suspend your disbelief and not think too literally with this story - she really doesn’t delve deep into questioning the fact that her roommate is a literal bloodsucking monster. I had lots of fun just happily reading along for the vibes and the laughs. It’s also got a spicy scene if you’re into that kind of thing. Frederick and Reginald’s relationship was probably my favourite part of the book alongside the hilarious stuff about “tick tock” and all the drink names in the coffee shop.
Anyways, if you want a spoopy, funny romp this October, this will definitely deliver 👌🏼🧛♂️ oh, and the cover is stunning which never hurts.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. It was easy to read and well written.
I loved the premise of the story and found it compelling the whole time. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters, the way they were learning about each other and their feelings while trying to navigate an unusual situation.
This is a great read for the spooky season.
The premise of this book is what drew me in and that great cover, I loved how Cassie and Frederick being flat mates/roommates and I completely adored Cassie and Frederick and the chemistry between them. Frederick learning how to be human was just so cute too, this was definitely a book for me and I loved it
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A light hearted read with the usual whimsy you'd expect from a book about moving in with a vampire however, this sadly didn't hit the mark for me.
The best parts of the book were texts and conversations between Frederick and Reggie. I think the book would've been so much better if we'd gotten to see Frederick's POV and seen this friendship explored more as Reggie added a lot of humour to the book.
I enjoyed the progressive relationship with the main characters. Frederick was very likeable. A cinnamon roll vampire - or kumquat, as it were. Though the ending did seem a little rushed with unnecessary drama.
I've been a big vampire kick recently after balders gate 3 and this was the perfect fun vampire romance I needed. I finished it in one session I really enjoyed it, the humour was great and there were so many sweet moments. Highly recommend
The perfect read for this spooky season. I loved every minute whilst reading and was very engrossed.
My Roommate is a Vampire was a cute, fun read. The plot was a little crazy, so suspend your disbelief, but I've no doubt this will be a cult hit!
The premise for this was good and I was interested to begin with. That quickly faded and I was just left a little bored with the story and baffled by some of those vampire plot points. I'm sure this will be loved by some but I just didn't engage with the characters and found it didn't live up to the synopsis.
Cassie Greenberg needs to find a room soon or she will be homeless. However, she is sceptical when she finds an ad offering a room for rent at a very low price in a very good area in Chicago. Surely, there is something wrong with it, but she is desperate and she replies to it. The house is beautiful with a view of the lake, although the furniture could use an upgrade, and the handsome owner, Frederick Fitzwilliam, seems to have come right out from Victorian England with his three-piece suit and solemn speech. He tells her that he sleeps all day and he’s out all night, so they will rarely cross paths. It looks like the perfect arrangement, so Cassie moves in: sure, he doesn’t own any kitchenware or any food and he doesn’t know what the wifi is, but he leaves her lovely and sweet handwritten letters and he compliments her art, even if he doesn’t understand it. Everything seems to be going smoothly, until, one evening, she opens the fridge and discovers his secret…
I loved My Roommate Is A Vampire!!! It is funny, fresh, and entertaining and I read it in one day. I adored the characters. Cassie is fun, relatable, and authentic, a struggling artist trying to make ends meet with part-time jobs, and I loved Frederick. He is always so gentle, kind, and polite and so adorably clueless about the modern world. The letters they exchanged were my favourite part of the story and their irresistible attraction and their romance kept me glued to the page.
And let’s not forget Reginald, one of the best supporting characters ever, whose hilarious texts to Frederick always made me laugh out loud.
My Roommate Is A Vampire is an incredible and immersive debut and I can’t wait to read more by this author. Highly recommended!!!
Aspiring artists Cassie is about to get evicted, her salary isn’t amazing so when she spots Fredrics ad she decides to go for it even though it sounds too good to be true. He’s a bit sketchy but they quickly fall into a rhythm writing each other notes and hanging out. Did I mention he’s extremely handsome. Everything’s great until she finds a bunch of blood bags in the fridge, turns out she’s living with a vampire.
I’m so glad I got an arc for this one, I’ve been seeing it everywhere lately and it didn’t disappoint. Such an entertaining read with lots of banter and laugh out loud moments. A vampire trying to adapt into modern society with the help of his new roommate. I wish it was dual pov but other then that I don’t have any complaints.
It’s not like anything I’ve ever read before, yes it’s still a romcom but with a twist. A perfect fall read for all the romance lovers. With this being Levines debut novel I can’t wait to see what she writes in the future.
While My Roommate is a Vampirehasn't become a new favourite of mine, I did find the story pretty cute. I liked how the book didn't take itself too seriously, because the book's setup is too bizarre for being taken seriously. All I'II say is pineapples...
This will definitely be coming into our Library - my students are going to adore this! Silly, joyous, heartfelt with an ever so dark sense of humour, this book will put a huge smile on your face.
This book was such a delight. I laughed out loud more than I can admit, and the characters were amazing. The chemistry and banter they had was phenomenal. Oh, and did I mention the humour in this book? I can highly recommend this book if you enjoy a light read.
"I don't believe this."
"What don't you believe."
"You're into her."
"You REPROBATE! How dare you?!"
"What????? Oh. No, lol. "You're into her" is just a modern figure of speech, bud. It just means you have romantic feelings for her."
"Oh. I see. You're still wrong, though."
My Roommate Is a Vampire was an incredibly cute read! I loved Fredrick and Cassie, and their dynamic. Lighthearted, breezy, and delightful. Jeeno has did it again!
Although I would argue in a typical jeeno fashion—the ending is weirdly anticlimactic. Like, all that build up and the big conflict was resolved just like that????? Anyway, the line "How familiar is vampire society with TikTok?" is a make it or break it line. I personally found it absolutely hilarious, but TikTok Deus Ex Machina is probably something that can take a person out of a narrative.
Bumped up from 4 to 5 stars because I support Reylos, always and forever.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an e-ARC copy of this book, in exchange for this honest review.
I love Rom-Coms and I love Vampire stories. A romance WITHIN a vampire story is even better!
While most vampire stories tend to have a dark, dramatic, oppressive feel to them, this book completely bucks the trend. It’s more lighthearted and leans more into the rom-com genre than it does horror. The lore is a blend of something between Buffy and Twilight.
Think Angel but less broody. Think Edward but less of his annoyingly overbearing protectiveness. Plus the main characters get to have sex without losing a pesky soul, or being worried about anyone’s virtue…
Frederick’s old world views clash spectacularly with the 21st century, and Cassie’s creative style lends to believing and understanding his existence. I just wish they had more chemistry between them. It’s the only thing prevented me from enjoying it more.
My Roommate is a Vampire is an easy cheesy read, perfect for a sunny afternoon, or a rainy one, or basically any time you want a feel good romance with the undead.
Thanks to Jenna Levine, Penguin Random House Cornerstone UK, and NetGalley for an arc of this book.
This was a really sweet vampire book, however a little childlike given the age of our leading lady. I had a great time with this book overall though and the cover is stunning!
Lovely lighthearted romance about boy meets girl and falls in love except catch is he is not prepared for the modern world as he has just woken from a hundred-year coma, and he is a Vampire.
The conversations by notes and text will make you smile. A quick enjoyable light read.
Thank you NetGalley and (publisher, Random House UK, Cornerstone) for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
What a fun little book.
If you don't look to closely at the plot holes, instalove and nonsensical happenings this is a brilliantly funny, low 'stakes' - pun intended romance read.
This book took me totally by surprise and I laughed out loud at so many moments. The texts from Frederick were some of the funniest moments. Cassie is in a jam and needs cheap accommodation to help out. Enter Frederick with his stunning apartment and spacious rooms for her to use, along with his really weird hours. i really enjoyed this one and I want a prequel on Fredericks's life before.
