My Roommate is a Vampire is a good fantasy romance that I would recommend to readers looking for a quick and entertaining read. I wasn't captured by Cassies character but I'm sure lots of readers will love her quirks and overall I still liked the book.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a copy of this eARC in exchange for a review.
I loved this read! Cute and funny romcom and who doesn’t love vampires of course! 😍🖤🦇
Thank you so much to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for this ARC! This was an anticipated release of 2023 for me and it certainly did not let me down!
This is a romantic comedy with a twist! Cassie is in the process of being evicted from her apartment while working two part time jobs and barely being able to afford rent. When a Craigslist advert is posted asking for a roommate for only $200 a month is sounds too good to be true but Cassie is desperate. After moving in with Frederick J. Fitzwilliam she finds him to be a bit odd but finds nothing suspicious about his daylight sleeping habits, the lack of cookware or the fact that his skin is freezing cold. After a mishap involving blood bags in the fridge she finds out her roommate is in fact a roommate. A vampire who needs her to teach him how to navigate the modern world after being asleep for 100 years. Sounds simple enough until Cassie starts to fall for her immortal student. What could go wrong?
As I said in a comment I posted on the author’s Instagram, this is one of only about three books I have read in my life where I have actually physically had to put the book down because I was laughing so hard. I’m talking gut busting, tear inducing laughter. Jenna Levine has an absolutely fantastic sense of humour and it really shines through in her work! Those diary entries and the texts between Reginald and Frederick my God! Frederick is absolutely adorable and his special vampire power? So cute! Cassie’s job as a librarian reminded me so much of my job and the craft days we have at our library, I liked how she interacted with the kids there. Also I really want to know where Frederick put that beautiful doormat he was gifted because I want one.
The only reason this wasn’t a five star for me was because I never really warmed to Cassie. I found her to be a bit abrupt at times and Frederick would give her all of this encouragement and praise and she never really reciprocated. The focus was mainly on her trying to help him fit in while he was encouraging her to be herself and pursue her passion for art.
Apart from that this was an absolutely brilliant, hilarious and mostly lighthearted read that never ceased to make me smile and giggle. If you love a slow burn, forced proximity romance with a golden retriever hero who is also immortal then you will love this. It’s released in the UK on 28th September, definitely keep it on your radar!
I didn't really know what to expect going into this, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was funny, cute, a little spicy (which I definitely didn't expect) and silly and I enjoyed reading this a lot.
Frederick was the sweetest most unvampire-vampire I've ever read and I just loved him for it. However, I wouldn't mind reading more about his past to flesh him out a bit more.
I did have some issues - mainly that for the majority of the book I felt like it was YA rather than adult, especially because considering the characters were in their 30s, they read like they were a lot younger. Also, the 'problem' was resolved extremely fast - like, it pretty much felt pointless writing it in to begin with, so that was a bit disappointing.
Despite all that, I still enjoyed reading this & will probably pick up more of Jenna Levine's work in the future.
Have read and will be posting full review in a few weeks with links.
I found this extremely difficult to read because the words being jumbled up, missing letters so you had to guess.
This made reading annoying and I wasn't sure if it was intended to prevent copying because it's an arc or whether it was an error in my copy.
I liked the premise of the story but feel feel it somewhat glossed the fact hes a vampire. For me it didn't really hit the mark for fantasy romance. I also felt the story was a little to fast paced and could have been slowed down to add some more scenes that would have made it an amazing story.
I did like that it wasn't gory like some books and I liked the level of spice.
However I just felt like there was something missing, and didn't enjoy it as much as I was expecting to. Even though i know a lot of people did really enjoy it. This one just wasn't for me.
I went into this not really knowing what I was expecting. Possibly a light easy romcom, maybe a good Halloweeny read, what I got was both of those and so much more. This was my kind of funny and who knew vampires could be so fruity!
Poor Cassie is about to be evicted and needs somewhere to live and fast. Her life is in a bit of a free fall and a well timed ad offering a ridiculously priced room must mean there’s a catch right?
That catch is Frederick, bonafide vampire who was accidentally poisoned and has slept for 100 years. Reginald tells him he needs a human roomie to get him up to speed on modern day living. Reginald really needs his own book as he is a scream.
The chemistry between Frederick and Cassie was pure old fashioned courtship until it wasn’t. I will warn you the heat turns up and the fruity turns spicy. Who knew someone over 300 years old could do things like that!
Really though this was about two people learning from each other and their growth was a joy to read. So if you like books with humour, romance and a little extra unexpected bite then I highly recommend you read this.
This has everything I needed right now in a book! Well developed characters, fun plot line, some seriously spicy scenes and it made me laugh. A lot! Fabulous read!
My Roommate is a vampire, was a nice romcom fantasy story that made you smile. With a good and clear style of writing, the book was easy to read. Cassie was entertaining and enjoyable as the main character. I totally recommend!
The book has a unique plot that doesn't fit to other books that I have read but it feels like it is missing something. My guess would be that it is missing some depth. It didn't hook me plot or character wise although it had a great premise.
My thanks to Netgalley, PRH and Jenna Levine for an eArc in exchange for my honest review.
I love a good paranormal romance, and this was just what I want in the run up to spooky season. I loved the sprinkling of messages and letters from Fredrick. Having his point of view included this way gives an interesting insight into his character.
Overall, this was a light, fluffy read which is exactly what I was after at the time of reading.
This book was a great mix of romance, vampires and a smidge of kidnapping.
I really loved Cassie and Frederick and I liked having Cassie’s pov however I would have loved for it to be dual pov so that I could get more from Frederick. I did really like the element of having letters/texts and notes included in the story too.
If you’re looking for a fun romance with some spice and a dashing vampire love interest then pick this up!
There was a lot I liked about this book but it’s not one I’m likely to reread. Cassie and Frederick were both interesting main characters. While the book was in Cassie’s POV we also got fun insights to Frederick’s state of mind through excerpts from his diary and text conversations which was a touch I really liked.
Paranormal romcoms are something I really enjoy reading but for this book and the conflict resolutions provided I struggled to suspend my disbelief. I kept wanting it to lean into the comedy even more because a lot of the events in the book were so playful.
My Roommate is a Vampire was a light and fluffy read, the perfect book to take a break from more intense/scary reads with this spooky season.

Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for this ebook.
My Roommate is A Vampire is a well written novel full of fun humour. This novel is so fast paced and really easy to enjoy.
I liked the take on the vampire genre in a fun light way. The characters banter plays well off each other and really adds to the story.
I was super grateful to NetGalley for an arc of this book!!! I SQUEALED.
Cassie and Frederick had me laughing and swooning from the get go. Cassie needed a place she could afford and Frederick needed a human roommate to teach him how to navigate modern society.
Sparks fly and secrets implode in this amazing feel good rom com with bite.
Frederick is so sweet - in his own way. He leaves her notes asking about her day and buys her kitchenwear so that she can cook - something he hasn’t needed for a few centuries.
Cassie always feels like a failure. Nothing goes right so when Frederick advertises for a roommate at a very low rental price, she almost thinks it’s too good to be true.
I loved every second of this. The cheesy and the banter included.
This book is completely silly and ridiculous and I loved it!
Cassie is a struggling artist who moves in with vampire Frederick, who has been in a coma for the last 100 years (thanks to his vampire neighbour!) and is looking for someone to help him navigate the modern world. Whilst a very simple story, it still had me laughing with how ridiculous Frederick is. His google search history had me smiling like a dork.
Frederick may possibly be my favourite fanny pack wearing, doubloon carrying vampire. He is adorably funny and I just wanted to give him the biggest hug.
I'd recommend this book if you're looking for a quick and silly romance featuring a clueless vampire who creates fruit when he's nervous.
A cute story of a centuries old vampire who needs to acclimatise to modern world and chooses to have a young woman as his roommate to do so. It’s a fairly low angst story with many fun moments.
The story was in Cassie’s first person POV, but the many messages and letters from Frederick’s POV brought out his personality well too. I didn’t find Frederick particularly interesting or sexy, nor did I connect with Cassie in any way, but I guess they suited each other.
"My Roommate is a Vampire" (Arc Review) by Jenna Levine is definitely one of the most captivating and entertaining books I've read this year. From the first chapter I was totally hooked, and here's why:
Unique Twist on the Vampire Genre: Levine has breathed fresh life into the vampire genre in a very unique way. The idea of having a vampire as a roommate is both hilarious and intriguing, and she executes it beautifully.
Relatable Characters: The characters in this book are incredibly well-developed and relatable, despite their supernatural circumstances. The protagonist's journey of navigating life with a vampire roommate is not only funny but also deeply touching.
Humour: Levine's writing is sharp, witty, and packed with humour. I found myself bursting into laughter at various points throughout the book. The clever one-liners and banter between the characters are really hilarious..
Page-Turning Plot: The story is fast-paced, and the plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns. It kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to find out what would happen next. I couldn't put the book down, and I ended up reading it in a day.
Themes of Friendship and Acceptance: At its core, "My Roommate is a Vampire" explores themes of friendship, acceptance, and the importance of embracing our differences. It's a heart-warming story that reminds us of the power of genuine connections.
In conclusion, Jenna Levine has created a beautiful vampire fiction that's not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. "My Roommate is a Vampire" is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good dose of humour, supernatural elements, and heart-warming storytelling. I wholeheartedly give it five stars and can't wait to see what Jenna Levine creates next.
I loved this book! I've always been a fan of vampire books and this romance was perfect for me!
I love how Frederick was leaving notes for Cassie and it was super fun and romantic!
I loved this book! It was such a fun, easy read that incorporated vampires in the modern world in such a fun way. I loved getting both Cassie and Fredericks voices coming through, and the contrast between them. It was quirky and adorable and will be absolutely perfect for romance fans in the spooky season!
Many thanks to the publisher for sending me an e-arc of this book in exchange for a review! So here we go!

I absolutely loved this book! Jenna did such a great job with incorporating vampires in the modern world! I find it really hard to like a fantasy book that includes vampires because there are a few really good ones out there and it becomes hard to compete… however, My Roommate is a Vampire took a totally different and refreshing turn into making vampires trendy again!
The writing style was on point and the characters were relatable! I confess I read this in one go! Freddie is such a warm, surprising character and I was very compelled by how different he can be from the normal vampire MMC! He definitely has a special place in my heart!
My Roommate is a Vampire is definitely a book to add to your spooky tbr list!
