It took a little while for me to get into this book, but one Freddie’s secret had been revealed to Cassie I was hooked.
I did think a little more could have gone into setting up what was between Cassie & Freddie, some logistics (was it fly around the room strength a’la Edward Cullen and Bella?) I think I would have preferred something a little more drawn out but still a good read and I am interested to see if the author has anything else about Reggie or Esmeralda.
I did enjoy the style of writing overall, and would recommend.
This was a fun light-hearted read. I enjoyed this a lot and I cannot wait to read more by this author!
This was a super cute concept and had a lot of really good elements to it. It was a silly, light-hearted read that was easy to follow. There were parts of it that felt a little redundant and I do wish there was more chemistry between Frederick and Cassie. I did like how the vampire's work in this world though.
I loved reading this one. I just love this kind of books.
4 stars read for me. I love this author snd her writing style.
Thanks to netgally for this arc.
I read this in one sitting and tbh I think my review would be lower if I hadn’t because it made it feel more fast paced than it was.
The story was cute some parts (the fruit part I’m looking at you) were a bit silly and out of nowhere.
But overall a good easy read.
This was such a fun read!!! It felt like a lighthearted twilight x the flatshare! I loved the humour that was sprinkled through this book, and I really enjoyed how Jenna describes the life of vampires. They weren’t too stereotypical which is one thing I was skeptical about before starting this.
It was a easy read which i finished over two days, and I hope that Jenna writes more!
I’m a sucker for a HEA and this was delivered!
Really enjoyed this book from start to finish :)
You've heard of: My Roommate is a Gumiho, now get ready for My Roommate is a Vampire.
If I could describe this book in one-word it would be: adorable. The book is a low stakes fun romance. We start off with Cassie needing a place to live and responding to Frederick's advertisement for a roommate. Cassie moves in a romance ensues. For a bit of the book they communicate with notes, written to each other which I really liked! It allowed for there to be insight into Frederick without a dedicated POV or paragraphs on their state of mind. I also liked that Frederick just bought Cassie a whole new kitchen basically, and if I knew how to cook I'd like for someone to buy me a new kitchen too.
Things didn't pick up romantically till about 70% in, which I really like I think it gave Levine the ability to set the scene more, and to have a more friends to lovers arc in my opinion as Cassie begins to teach Frederick how to order coffee and generally adapt to the new world. From then it was quite fast-paced but then again it had to be because there was only 30% of the book left, but it meant that plot points were going to have to emerge and be settled quickly too, because of that you kind feel either happy that you weren't in this conflict plotline for long, or you wonder 'maybe this was solved too quickly' leaving you feeling unsatisfied. I didn't mind, as I watched my kindle percentage progress I made peace with this type of conclusion.
Overall, I thought it was low stakes fun romance and worth a read, especially during the summer.
Thank you to Netgalley, Random House UK, Cornerstone, Penguin for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
It was all I wanted and needed from a paranormal contemporary romance : it reads extremely fast, and it's fun and cute and hot !
I loved Frederick as that old vampire wanting to be up to date with the current trends, the way he was so clueless sometimes. It's what made this book so funny to me, and he was just way too cute in that way. Cassie was nice but somehow she didn't got much improvment as a character as Frederick did, which is a bit sad, even if work-wise it changed, herself didn't.
The romance was both cute and hot! It happens a bit too fast to my liking but I know it's general to romance and it's a me-thing so I just get used to it 😆 The things happening were interesting as their own, and the last important twists were done a bit too fast - but that's a romance, so happy ending and easy plot, but as I'm used to fantasy I would have prefered a bit more difficulties to sort this out, it was way too easy.
Overall this book is cute, fun and hot, so it was a great read and I recommand for an lighthearted and easy read!
PS: I'm a little bit frustrated with the epilogue, with the open ending and Cassie's decision... [[spoiler as to why can be found on my goodreads, storygraph or booknode (french) reviews!]]
The premise of this book is AMAZING and not talked about enough: a vampire from the 1800s fell asleep sometime at the start of the 1900s and has now woken up on 2023, so he needs someone to help him navigate the modern world.
Forget about the "reylo" aspects, Frederick is much more similar to a Jane Austen hero, and it makes for a very refreshing change on the romance dynamics of urban fantasy.
For me personally, the book asks for too much suspension of disbelief, as the main female character doesn't even doubt about vampires existing, and there's hardly any tension between the characters. I think people who are used to reading fanfic and don't care about worldbuilding will love this book, as it is kind of a... cozy romance, dare I say?, with low stakes (pun not intended).
That said, I would have appreciated 100 more pages to get more worldbuilding and a slower development.
My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine
ARC Rating 4/5 ⭐️
This is a PNR slow burn rom-com story.
It follows Cassie, who is looking for a new place to rent. When she comes across a too good to be true roommate ad, by Frederick J. Fitzwilliam. Frederick works at night and sleeps during the day. And may or may not be a vampire.
The story was really nice, and I enjoyed a lot of the humour and rom-com moments. And I really loved the letters that Cassie and Frederick wrote to each other throughout the story.
Sometimes, the characters fell a little flat and 2d, and I wasn't sold on the third act drama tbh.
But overall, it was an easy, quick, and sweet read and would recommend it.
Thank you, NetGalley, Random House UK, Jenna Levine, for sending this eARC for review. All opinions are my own.
I really wanted to like this one - I LOVE a cheesy rom com and I ADORE vampire books, but this one just didn't do it for me.
The premises of the book was a great one, I loved the idea of a vampire having to understand and find his footing in the modern world, however, I really didn't warm to any of the characters and I although I like cheesy, this was a bit too much for me and instead felt very YA despite there being spice! I think this will certainly suit someone's tastes, just not mine.
As my review is complete ahead of publication of the book, I will not be posting negative review on my socials. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC - sorry it just wasn't for me!
Quirky book, but if a slow burn with totally unnecessary smut scene which out me off slightly. Fun, slightly predictable read.Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy

Thank you to Netgalley and Cornerstone for the advance reader copy for an honest review.
My Roommate is a vampire follows Cassie Greenburg a struggling artist in dire need of a place to live. She stumbles across an advert on Craigslist for a roommate in an incredibly reasonably priced apartment.
The apartment belongs to the incredibly good looking Frederick J Fitzwilliam who works nights and sleeps all day.
What could be the catch? Turns out that Frederick is a vampire. Recently awoken from a long coma who needs help reacclimatising to the 21st century.
This is a light and fluffy easy romance book. I got through this very quickly and felt it had a lot of sweet and funny moments that gave the story it's charm.
The only issue I felt was that the main hurdle in the story was resolved very quickly and easily. I think that might have been the aim of the book hut it felt a little anti climactic to me.
However overall if your looking for an easy spooky read for the autumn time this book is one I would recommend.

“Over the past two weeks I’ve discovered that in this city of millions, you are one of a kind.”
My Roommate Is A Vampire is a lighthearted, pretty baffling, and a bit contrived paranormal romcom where, as the title suggests, the main character, Cassie, moves in with a vampire, Frederick.
I said a bit contrived and by a bit I actually mean A LOT. I mean, sometimes it worked for me, such as the magical fruit conjuring abilities. And other times it was a bit of an eye rolling provoking read, such as Frederick’s whole character to be honest.
The romance was super quirky and a slow burn. I wasn’t much invested in the chemistry between the couple unfortunately, there wasn’t much depth, I found the romance and humour were all very surface level. Also there’s one spicy scene that had far too many ‘please’s for my liking.
However, it’s charming and delightful. I thought that the idea of a vampire adapting to a modern world was great. I thought the text message exchanges were really funny and made the characters likable. And, I easily could have read this in a matter of hours.

I'm so sad about this book...
I absolutely loved it - the escape I needed, the silliness, the awkward crushes...just brilliant. I wanted more of the courting and cuteness. The eventual smut scene was just....hard to read and cringe. It was a very badly written that just put me off and it would have been better to fade to black...it did not sound nice or comfortable. The third-act-break-up was fine...but could have been condensed a bit?
I don't know, but just that one scene ruined the book for me (not because I'm a prude or w/e just....bad and out of place/tonally weird. The rest of the book reads as cartoony fluffy easy cheese...and just *weh*.
This wasn't my cup of tea sadly. Felt a lot like a fanfic thart needed more adapting before it was released as a book. The characters were a bit one-dimensional, and never seemed to change or grow throughout for me. I didn't like the inevitable third -act breakup, it seemed a bit silly. I also didn't really get strong romance vibes between the two characters either.
Sadly a miss for me, and not the fun-vampire rom com i was expecting
This was a nice slightly silly but funny read!! Cassie is down on her luck when an ad for a roommate comes along - but is it too good to be legit? She ends up moving in and finding out she’s actually living with a 300 year old vampire who’s using her to integrate himself into modern living. I did find the last 30% a bit rushed but overall the story was fun! Can’t wait to see more from Jenna
3.5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy of this book.
The was a cute quick read.
It is what it says in the title.
Cassie unknowingly moves in with a vampire, Frederick.
Frederick is the sweetest vampire ever!
He’s the typical tall and hot guy from most romance books but he’s a complete goof!
He’s been asleep for 100 years and needs someone to help him navigate this new world
It is sweet as he learns about modern fashion and behaviours, however for someone that had already lived a couple of hundred years before that I think
he does come across a bit silly.
But I enjoyed the twist that he wasn’t just the typical hot and broody vampire.
Cassie was ok, I’m not an art lover so didn’t really get her take on it and also felt she came across as quite immature for her age, I forget she was supposed to be in her 20s.
The book overall was a bit silly but it was an easy, enjoyable read.
Love love loved this! It was FABULOUS. This is the type of book that draws you in and then you become obsessed to the point where sleep is not longer on the radar. Please read this so I have people to talk about the wonder that it is with.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. First of all, I want to promise you that Frederick is an absolute cinnamon roll and I love him and will not hear anyone say anything different. I enjoyed parts of Cassie’s character, but it was Frederick that kept me reading.
After being in a vampiric coma for a century he’s looking for someone to teach him how life works in the 21st century and this where Cassie steps in.
Throughout the book, she teaches Frederick how we as humans live and text and how we take pictures of food for the ‘gram. This is the part that got me and was actually a great grasp on modern types. Why do we post pictures of food? Frederick definitely doesn’t get why.
We also see the two develop feelings for each other. This was a part of the book that didn’t feel ‘real’ to me, despite the book being about a vampire housemate.
It seemed from the get go that they caught feelings for each other without knowing each other. And then boom, they’re in love. It just didn’t feel realistic and I would have liked to have seen a bit more tension between them. To add a bit of believability to the story.
As mentioned previously, it was Frederick that kept me interested in the book. How clueless the poor guy is. How he was a complete softie who would do anything for his girl. I think I would have been better if he was a bit more 3D though. We learn very little about his past apart from where he’s from.
Cassie was ok. And that is all I can say. Ok. She is a 32 year old who constantly bangs on about how she can’t keep a job or a flat for more than a couple of months. She makes art out of trash from the streets and when Levine tried to describe this in the book, I just couldn’t picture it. Cassie didn’t feel like a ‘grown up’ character to me. I read her as a twenty something still trying to get her life together.
I’d say that it was the first 60% of the book kept me hooked. When I started it, I couldn’t put it down. But as we got past this point, the plot just seemed to go downhill. Frederick is kidnapped because he chooses to marry someone his mother has arranged and then it just felt so rushed. He gets rescued and thanks Cassie and that’s pretty much it.
I still heavily enjoyed the book, and god am I glad I purchased the Fairyloot special edition before I read it. I’m still keen to see what Levine has to offer.
