I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The illustrations were well done and made the book interesting for my kid. My 5-year-old loved to pick out a photo of who she wanted to learn about next and liked the timeline page with a mix of illustration and photographs. She had a harder time paying attention to the main story page but it’ll be great to revisit those sections as she gets older!
I have read most of, if not all individual books about the people in this book, from the same author.
And it's actually great having them all in one book.
They are all short and easy to understand, but are actually also very informative - even for adults..great book, that should be on every child's bookcase
I really enjoyed this new addition to the Little People Big Dreams series. This time round we have a treasury, containing information on 40 different inspiring Americans, from 1800 onwards. There are actors, musicians, sports stars, activists, politicians, and so many more. The inclusivity is perfectly pitched, and the level of information is exactly right for short bursts of detail. As usual the illustrations are wonderful, and this would be an ideal addition to any child's book collection.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Received for review: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Why did I decide to turn the pages? I love the author's works.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This is a quick compilation of 40 inspiring Americans. Maria pulls from her other published works to consolidate each individual down into three pages. Page one contains a quick summary, and pages two and three have a timeline. This is organized chronologically.
Maria did a great job of featuring people from diverse backgrounds in all senses of the word (race, gender, profession, accomplishments, etc.)
This one is great for those looking for quick dive into a lot of different people quickly. I always prefer deeper dives into individuals, but this is a good compilation. It pulls heavily from her other books, which are deeper dives into each person. This seems like it would be a great one to start with and use to decide if you want to know more about a specific individual. If so, then you could check out her other works or works by others.

If you are a fan of the Little People, BIG DREAMS books this is a book for you. I loved it.
Accurate. Important. Wonderful. This book is phenomenal. The details and organization are so useful for the classroom. I enjoyed the timelines for each person in history as well as their individual quotes. Beautiful & accurate illustrations help the reader to envision these influential Americans in their own times. The way the book is organized helps even the youngest readers navigate this book. I appreciate the fact that the time expands all the way into 2000. An excellent book that I look forward to using throughout the school year in my classroom and at home. I learned so much and truly enjoyed this reading experience.
This book started out amazing! It had phenomenal info, The timeline was so well done. Think is something that will grab kids attention and will give them great info on peopl.e who are important to how we live now. I loved it up until the current people. It was like they had to add in certain people to stay relevant and…mmm..how do I say this without trigger words? Some of the modern people are VERY controversial and I dare say were added in because of certain characteristics and life styles they life. Not because they actually added GOOD to the worl.d. But it is opinion. The first 3/4 of the book was excellent. I’ll leave it at that!
I really enjoyed this children's book, which is a Little People, Big Dreams treasury of a lot of different "heroes" from the USA, such as Prince, Maya Angelou, Martin Luther King Jr, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jordan, Amanda Gorman, Gloria Steinem, Elvis, Neil Armstrong, and Dwayne Johnson.
The book is packed full of interesting information and inspirational facts, set out beautifully with easy to read text and gorgeous graphics.
I loved this book, which I recommend highly!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I think it is enjoyable for both adults and children. Even with knowing a lot about some of the figures, I still went away learning a couple of facts. Some people I had not heard of at all. It’s incredibly educational without being an overload of information. I highly recommend.

This collection is perfect to add to my own collection of Little People, Big Dreams books. The book is a collection of 40 inspiring Americans going through the ages between 1800's- 2000. Each person includes a summary of their life, a timeline for what they have done- includes real life photos too, an inspirational quote and illustration.
These books will definitely start conversations with younger audiences and allow them if they find someone who particularly takes their interests to read/research more about them.
Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.
As a teacher and a mother of two, I am always on the hunt for fun and educational books. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was so cute and colorful. The art in this book is amazing and I love that the timelines have actual pictures of the people you are reading about and not just the art. Overall, if you are a middle school history teacher this would be a great addition to have in your classroom library. I will definitely be recommending this to our media center specialist.
This is an inspirational book that features many iconic people in our American history! I absolutely love how the book is broken down into the different time frames along with timelines. The information about each person are in short and easy to read/understand segments which is great for children!
The artwork in the book is so vibrant and bold! I also love that there is real life photos included too. Having the real life pictures in there helped really relate to who this person truly is, and feel connected to them!
The selection of people, in my opinion, was phenomenal. I feel there was a lot of inclusion in the book, which is incredible! It was so fun to learn more about these people, some things I did not know. It sparked a lot of conversations with my 7 year old!
I have absolutely loved every book in this Little People, BIG DREAMS series and would recommend this to anyone whether you have the other books or not!
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
Forty of Sanchez Vegara's biographies of Americans concisely shared in one book. Each person's account consists of a one page bio, portrait, quote, and two-page timeline. Readers see the summarized version of each life and gain more detail from the timeline. The artwork is repurposed from her individual biographies. I appreciate this taste of so many historical figures. Mid-elementary readers will learn enough to decide if they want to research more about each person. Written at a level to hold interest and not frustrate this level reader. A must for libraries and a sampler for families.
I absolutely love this. The stories, timelines, and photos were absolutely perfect. I read it with my little girls. I will be buying a copy.
Thank you so much for the ARC.
I love reading these books to my kids but by bit. And for my youngest. This book with brief bios is better suited for his attention levels. They love the photos. And I love the break down into different time periods so we can have a conversation about that as well! Can’t wait to add a hard copy to our collection!
Little People, BIG DREAMS: American Dreams is my new favorite book in this inspirational series about iconic figures in American history. This collection spans hundreds of years and includes little-known facts about some of our favorite legends, from Martin Luther King Jr. to RuPaul to Megan Rapinoe. Readers will adore the vibrant illustrations and the timelines that detail important events in the lives of so many beloved athletes, artists, musicians and activists. I can't wait to proudly display this in my classroom library!
Little People, BIG DREAMS: American Dreams edition is a wonderful collection.
Filled with stunning illustrations and handy timelines to help your young ones visualise and immerse themselves in the lives of these wonderful people.
The authors have compiled short segments of each persons story helping you get a quick overview of the American Dreams. This book is not only inspiring to young Americans but to all young people.
I was gifted a Digital copy of 'Little People, BIG DREAMS: American Dreams' in exchange for a fair and honest review. Thanks Net Galley and Quarto Publishing.
I've read other books in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series, and have found them to be really thoughtfully written for young audiences. This book did not disappoint. I particularly enjoyed the mixture of narrative and timeline, with photos/ artifacts from the person's life.
As I was reading the book, the one question I had was about the selection of people. While nothing felt off, and I actually really appreciated that it was a mix of people kids would easily recognize as well as some lesser known folks, I did wish there was more of an explanation why these specific people were included. And, I would have liked to a more broad cross-section of Asian-American individuals included.
The illustrations are super cute! The title and description are very grabbing and I love that the information is easy to digest and gold like a kids story. Great for younger readers and to have displayed in your home
