Very interesting manga… one girl is tiny, only 12 centimeters tall and the other one is normal. The normal one is unemployed and hasn’t left the house in the year. The tiny one has no memories of how she got there. Finally they meet and the normal girl want advice from the tiny girl.
I am not sure who this book is aimed at. It is trying to inject humor into a serious issue, maybe? Neither the humor (which was super low brow) nor the drama connected for me.
Add in the random imagery designed for dumb teenage boys (upskirt shots, random butt in air sprawls, literally on the toilet using it) and you've completely lost me.
Review to come June 2nd on blog/goodreads.
I received this manga from the publisher/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
Things I loved about this manga: I loved that Small Nozomi is trying to help out Big Yume. Yume has a fear of going outside/cannot work anymore and she enlists the help of Nozomi to give advice and such. Nozomi helps her out, in exchange for donuts and some help with things. It was great to see Nozomi not just give advice... but also gives Yume some challenges. Like cleaning up her room and throwing away the trash. Or opening the door for the mailman. Slowly letting Yume do a bit more and get her to be outside.
I loved the art as well, it is so pretty! The style is just what I love.
And while I am confused about a lot of things, I did love meeting another tiny person, and seeing someone bigger who looks exactly like Nozomi. It definitely thickens the mystery on why Nozomi is so tiny and why she doesn't have many memories.
But yeah, it was all a bit too confusing for me. The mystery? I just would have liked at least SOMETHING to happen in the first volume of 3 volumes. Maybe that Nozomi gets a spark of recognition, or maybe remembers more than just the shrine. Or maybe she remembers going to school. But nothing. And later we meet another tiny person and while I did love that, it did also make me scratch my head. Add to that the appearance of big Nozomi, and I am so full of questions it is not fun.
I found Yume to be annoying at times, I get that she is afraid and that it is a real fear, but seriously, at least try to get things cleaned. Also drunk Yume. No. I am glad that she took Nozomi's help, maybe she will change for the better.
All in all, I am just not sure if I will read the next volumes. I kinda want to, but I have read a few things online (yes, I couldn't resist) that didn't make me happy. So unsure as of now.
This one was... Not it. The characters are flat and not interesting - and also not particularly endearing? I thought Nozomi's desperation would be more interesting but she's just a vain amnesiac who gets in over her head; like, if she had known her previous life and had something she was fighting to get back to (even her not remembering how she actually shrunk is fine but not remembering anything just means she's... Dull) it would at least give us a goal.
Yume, by contrast, was just sad... And using her situation to comedic effect just... Wasn't it.
Somewhat interesting, but not as funny as I was expecting. It’s typical manga so for newbies to it, you read right to left, and if you’re unfamiliar with certain terms, there’s a glossary at the back. The main character is a young, dirty, out of work, alcoholic woman, and a high school student whose mysterious woken up shrunk to the size of a can of pop. It’s a decent time waster, but a bit slow for my liking
This is a very cute book about absolutely nothing. It gives vibes of Arrietty and Princess Jellyfish. I think that as the story progresses further a concrete storyline will appear, but this volume was cute and lighthearted.
