Just going to preface this review by saying, if you haven't read Wolfsong, this probably won't make a whole lot of sense. But I implore you to read it. It is beautiful and soul nourishing and like most TJ Klune books will probably make you cry ... but he'll pick you right back up again.
And I promise no spoilers ahead...
“Wherever you are, that’s where my home is.”
Ravensong follows Gordo, in multiple timelines. One from when he was a child and he was picked to be the Bennett pack Witch. A Witch grounds the werewolves to their humanity and stops them from becoming feral. They are pack. They are loved. Gordo found his true family ... and also his soul mate, Mark Bennett. Unfortunately certain events take place and the Bennett pack have to leave town, Mark too. Gordo doesn't understand why, he only believes that his family have left him. He is filled with hate and resentment. Why did his mate not choose him? Why did his pack father just leave him? Over the years he came to despise wolves and did not wish to have anything more to do with them. Then one day, many years later, the Bennett pack return to Green Creek. And Gordo is pulled into pack life all over again.
I really enjoyed Wolfsong, but when I tell you I loved Ravensong. I really loved how WS laid the groundwork for Gordo and Mark's story and it was just as heart-wrenching as we had anticipated. The angst just rippled off the page, Gordo really was traumatised and you felt every word of it. Mark never gave up on him and he consistently shows that he'll never leave again. Gordo has a lot to work through. It's a second chance romance but it is a slow burn for sure. Achingly so.
“But sometimes things happen that we don’t expect. Like finding a boy with magic in his skin who is everything.”
As always with Klune, his character developments are just gold. The side characters, specifically Team Human added such a richness to the story. Whenever things were getting overly emotional or blue, there was a side character to boost you back up again. I loved how much I laughed in this book. Rico is a firm favourite of mine and I can't wait to see more of him, and Bambi, in the rest of the series.
If TJ writes it, I'll read it.

I decided to read this second installment despite not liking the first one at all, simply because Gordo was the only character I liked in Wolfsong and because I’m trying to catch up on my pending reviews on NetGalley—this is a series that some of my friends love, so I decided to request the arcs of the first two books when they were republished by Tor, thinking I’d love them too. So, after a year of putting off reading Ravensong because of my huge disappointment with Wolfsong, which was my first and worst read of 2024, I finally decided to give this installment a chance.
My experience reading this book was a roller coaster. I was tempted to DNF it during the first 30% because it was all flashbacks: some of them were scenes from Gordo’s youth and how he joined the pack, but most of them were of what happened in the second half of Wolfsong, although this time only following of the four characters who left Green Creek. Once I got past that point and the story finally returned to the present, I was surprised to find myself enjoying the book, but then I lost interest again in the last 20%.
If I was already on Gordo’s side in the first book, the flashbacks that revealed why he had left the pack years ago only made me empathize with him even more. The Bennetts did him so dirty. Imagine a kid who’s been through everything he’s been through, promising him he’s part of their family, and then abandoning him. I don't know how they had the nerve to return to Green Creek after that and not get down on their knees to beg for his forgiveness.
It was interesting to see Thomas through Gordo’s eyes, as it gives us a very different perspective than the idealized one Ox had of him in the first book. I like it when authors show different sides and imperfections of the same character depending on who’s telling the story, and in this case, I think Klune pulled that off very well. I missed more exploration of Gordo’s relationship with Elizabeth, as she was also an important figure for him when he was a kid, and I would have liked for her to have apologized to him, not just trying to explain how hard it was for Tomas to make that decision.
I was very curious to know what had happened in the past between Gordo and Mark, knowing they were mates and that Gordo had renounced that bond. I liked seeing how they gravitate toward each other again and how the pack tries to intervene so they can be together all these years later, although due to things that happen in the plot that I won’t go into to avoid spoilers, scenes with Mark are scarce in the last 20% of the book, so they don’t really have much on-page time together in this book.
In short, I had a lot of ups and downs with Ravensong. I enjoyed learning more about the witches, following Gordo’s character development, and the funny scenes with the pack. But I found it tedious to relive the events of the first book for much of the beginning—even if it was just to get a glimpse of the other half of the group’s perspective—and I would have liked more development in the romance, not to have everything happen in a matter of days. I’m glad I gave this book a chance, but I highly doubt I’ll pick up the next two installments. I think my journey with the Green Creek series ends here.

Thank you for an arc of this book! Spoilers ahead
TJ Klune does it again! I just adore this series and the whole Bennett pack. I didn’t know what to expect with Gordo’s story, but it did not disappoint and only built on what we knew about him from Wolfsong.
I loved seeing his & Marks love story, and am very interested to see how it progresses now that he kind of has Mark back. It’s heartbreaking how they only just got together as this infection got him.
I cannot describe my anger at Alpha Michelle planning all this to eradicate them. How she could do that and still act like she’s a good person. I didn’t know this series would lead to war, but I think it will be very interesting when Ox & Joe come head to head with her.
Very very excited for the next story and finding out about the infection and Gordo’s brother!

*Ravensong* by TJ Klune is nothing short of a masterpiece. This sequel to *Wolfsong* deepens the emotional complexities of the Green Creek series, and I found myself completely immersed in its world once again.
Gordo is a brilliantly crafted character. His emotional depth, shaped by past betrayals, makes him both tough and vulnerable. As someone who has been hurt by the pack he once loved, Gordo’s journey is one of healing, self-discovery, and ultimately, acceptance. The tension between him and Mark Bennett is palpable, and their dynamic is electric. Klune has a remarkable ability to create complex, relatable characters who feel so real, you can’t help but invest in their stories.
The romance in *Ravensong* is intense and beautifully written. It’s a slow-burn, filled with longing, frustration, and a deep sense of loyalty. I loved seeing Gordo and Mark’s relationship evolve, especially with the added layers of danger and external threats. The paranormal elements are woven seamlessly into the narrative, and the stakes are high as the characters face not just physical enemies, but the emotional turmoil that comes with their past and present struggles.
The way Klune blends the supernatural with raw emotion, loyalty, and betrayal is remarkable. The world-building in *Ravensong* is richly detailed, and the sense of family and pack loyalty rings true throughout the story. The sense of community, of finding where you truly belong, is a central theme that resonates deeply.
The only downside, if I had to find one, is that it left me yearning for more! I am already excited to continue the journey with *Heartsong* and beyond. If you loved *Wolfsong*, *Ravensong* will completely sweep you off your feet. Full of passion, love, and heartache, this book is an absolute five-star read!

I'm loving this series so much and can't wait to read the 3rd book! I love Klune's writing and the emotional connection the writing builds towards the characters in every novel!

Gordo was forced into magic by his father, who disappeared from his life.
Gordo was also then abandoned by the Bennett Pack, and he has since then focused on his work and eventually came to care for a boy named Ox
After the events of book one, Gordo is now part of the Pack again but the danger is not over and they will need their Witch more than ever
Can Gordo find his place in the Pack, and will this be at Marks side if they can get over the previous betrayals
I really enjoyed this second installment, was nice to see things from Gordos perspective... and I'll say as well, I'm so glad I waited for the whole series to be re-released after that ending... right onto book 3!

Amazing!!! I'm so glad I was introduced to the klune as an author.. tj klune has a way of bringing the the reader in to the story and create connections with the characters

First of all, I loved the first book in the Green Creek series, Wolfsong, and I couldn’t wait to get back into the world of wolves, pack and found family. I have loved all of TJ Klune’s books and he writes so beautifully that I wish I could stay wrapped up in his words forever.
Ravensong follows on from the events of the first book but this time from the point of view of Gordo, the Bennett pack witch. His story takes us back in time to when he first meets the Bennetts and his mate and also shows us what happened on the road with Joe and the pack after events in Wolfsong before coming back to the present where there is another enemy to face.
I really loved getting to know his character better and to read all his thoughts and feelings about Mark, Ox and the rest of his pack. There is lots of grief, feelings of betrayal and anger as well as love and forgiveness in this stunning book. This book shows readers that Gordo is a complex character and his character development throughout is perfect.
I love all of the characters in this series, the Bennett pack and now the addition of the humans who bring found family into the fray. The group have such a strong bond together and there is even more action to sink your teeth into when hunters descend on Green Creek with the plan to eradicate all wolves.
Ravensong starts off at a quite relaxing pace as we get to know Gordo’s character more with short snippets of the past and his life growing up but it soon becomes a very fast paced sequel when the pack is threatened and they jump into action with plans to protect and save everyone.
I first read Wolfsong last summer and I thought I could jump straight into this sequel but I had to go back and skim the first book to refresh my mind. Also with the switch from Ox’s to Gordo’s POV, while brilliant, it took me a few chapters to re-calibrate my brain and separate who was speaking and the connection of the relationships while I got it smoothed out and then it was easy getting back into the flow.
I absolutely adored this novel and will definitely be reading the next two books in the Green Creek series sooner rather than later! If you are a fan of fantasy, wolf shifters and stories with action and romance, this is definitely the series for you!
Packpackpack.

Will TJ Klune ever write a book that doesn’t hurt in all the best ways? We have yet to see!
Gordo’s story was everything I needed it to be and more. Filled with the same heartwarming (and heartbreaking) themes as Wolfsong, don’t be deterred that this book doesn’t follow our beloved Ox and Joe as closely! We still see all the characters from Wolfsong (or at least the ones that made it to the end) and I loved that following Gordo gave us glimpses into moments unseen and gave us different perspectives.
I love these characters with my whole heart.

Hands down my favourite series ever. I never thought I’d be so emotionally attached to wolves. For a big book, I couldn’t stop reading it.

I will admit, this took me a bit longer to get into than Wolfsong, it is based round one of the significant events in the first book, but from a different perspective. For some reason the different POV within the same series left me with an adjustment period!
This is centered round Gordo, a prominent character in wolfsong. A very complex, loyal but an eternally frustrated character, and this goes a long way to explaining why. The fractured relationship with the Bennet's and his serious trust issues. Another layer of depth to this rich and absolutely stunning series
That said, once it clicked it clicked. This is just as beautiful, the writing is just as exceptional and the emotions still as raw!

this was a great sequel - loved getting to know the characters further, and see the character development (both in personality, decision making and age/growth!!) i loove TJs writing so much xxx

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved reading this POV in the Green Creek series and found the character and his backstory extremely fascinating and how he wove into the story of all the other characters.

Gordo is far too stubborn of a protagonist. I love him for it, but it meant the plot was a little slower going than the first book in the series due to everyone having to break down Gordo's emotional barriers before we could have a breakthrough and then progress the plot. The emotional pay off for it was fucking sweet though in the end.
I think my only problem with this book was pacing - it felt like large periods of time spent filling time. Telling us about the 3 years they spent away was sorta pointless because we knew enough already and they were back anyway. Gordo's complicated history with Mark was at least worth the emotional trauma in the end when they ended up HEA as mates but... Gordo's childhood did not get satisfactory closure - a good wrapping-up of that plotline would've been if he'd ever got to confront his father but we're setting him up as a future bad guy instead for a different book, when he really should've been Gordo's big bad instead of some random hunters from his childhood. Ox's big bad was the guy who killed his mum, and there would've been merit in Gordo getting the same treatment.
I also feel like, as wonderful as the work put towards and the pay off of the reconciliation between Gordo and Mark, we didn't really get to see them together as much as I would've liked. They spent a large portion of their time not even able to talk because Mark was stuck as a wolf frequently after they mated.
I still love the loving found family and small town coziness of this series, but I'm not particularly hyped about the next book being about Robbie and Kelly. Maybe they'll make a compelling couple once we get Robbie's POV, but right now I don't see the potential for depth in Kelly's character - he's a 2D guy who loves his family and... That's it? He kinda likes his pack too I guess but family seems to come absolute first for him.

This partly followed on from Wolfsong but also takes you back in the past. I actually found this one better than the first book and I really enjoyed that one too.
I loved the dual timeline and finding out so much more about the pack links. It was nice to see things from a different point of view compared to Wolfsong.
Love love love these characters and their bonds. It was just so good to be back in this world and I can’t wait to see what else comes the Bennetts way.
This is an auto buy author for me now as I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by TJ Clune.
Wonderful series

Honestly, in my eyes TJ Klune can do no wrong, so this is going to be a glowing review.
I read and completely and utterly fell in love with Wolfsong, which is part one in the Green Creek series. Oz is now easily one of my favourite characters to ever not exist. Which means I was very nervous going into Ravensong song as it's a sequel but written from the point of view of a different character. However, I should have remembered I was in incredibly safe hands. We do meet this character in Wolfsong, so I advise people read it first because it will just make more sense. Plus, you'll be missing out on such a good read!
Where Wolfsong focused on Ox and Joe, Ravensong is Gordo's journey as he navigates his way as the Bennett's witch, trying to ignore the pull of a certain Wolf he thought he'd walked away from.
I don't know how Klune does it, but he manages to make me laugh one minute, then cry like a baby the next. He plays with my emotions, leaving me turning page after page as I become desperate to find out more. He is such an underrated writing talent and I just fell headfirst into Green Creek and didn't want to leave! His characters are warm and engaging, and you want to always be in their world and surrounded by their found family.
Although I wish there could have been more Ox and Joe (purely selfish because they're my favourite) I understand that it wasn't their story so their presence had to be reduced slightly. I still loved being in Gordo's world though, and finding out more about his childhood and how he became a witch.
Klune not only writes a strong protagonist story that you want to inhale, but he also has a cast of supporting characters you fall in love with. He's just a magician that knows how to pull on my heartstrings.
I just loved every lyrical word.

Book one, Wolfsong, introduced to the Bennett wolf pack via Ox, book two, Ravensong, follows Gordo. Ox's best friend/boss/mentor/surrogate father figure, and the witch to the pack.
We get details about Gordo's childhood, his witch father and his untrusting mother and the way they affected his own ability to trust and lead him to ignore life-changing bonds.
Through Gordo's point of view we also get more details about what happened in the background of book one when Gordo, Joe, Carter and Kelly go off hunting Richard Collins. I really appreciated this extra context and it shows just how intricately that these books have been woven together. So much thought has gone into the planning of the series and it's just beautiful.
The characters are all amazingly written and I love the banter! It can be a life or death scene and someone will say something that will still make me laugh and I love it!
There is a rather spicy scene so these books are definitely not for younger readers. For people who don't wish to read it the run-up is clear enough that it can be easily skipped.
All in all these books have my heart!

I’m developing a serious TJ Klune addiction, and I’m ok with that.
This Bennett pack, though! They’re not just putting themselves through the emotional wringer - what about me?!
I loved reading Gordo’s story - his trauma, sadness, abandonment issues - and how he’s found again.
All of these books have been a joy so far (and I’ve already read the next in the series). What I particularly like, is how I’m drawn in to this book, and how I become so invested in their lives. Look, I know it’s a story about a werewolf pack, but at no point does it seem to be “just” a werewolf book. There are so many parallels that can be drawn to real people’s lives (especially that of found family). And that’s why I love them.
And werewolves. Of course.

After struggling with book one. I still wanted to give this a go. Hoping book two would interest me more. But I've come to the conclusion TJ Klune is just not for me.
I ended up putting this book down 23% in.

I love TJ Klunes books, and Ravensong is no exception. I was hooked from the beginning. I love the writing style, and I loved the storyline
