Chloe’s life is going well. She recently relocated to Portland with her fiancé, Elton, purchased a new home, a new car, and landed a job as a nurse practitioner in the ICU. She couldn’t be happier.
However, her first day at the hospital takes an unexpected turn when she discovers that she will be working alongside her ex-husband, Jameson Smith. There’s a history between them, a reason she ended their marriage and fled from him. Now, forced to collaborate closely, Chloe fears her carefully constructed life might unravel. She can’t expose him for what she believes he’s doing without exposing something from her past as well.
Jameson, known as “Dr. Death,” has gained notoriety for advocating legal euthanasia, believing in the right to die with dignity. Chloe suspects he has taken his beliefs to extreme measures, turning into a medical serial killer. Determined to uncover the truth, she engages in secretive investigations, walking a dangerous path while also guarding her own hidden secret from Elton.
The narrative skillfully presents a dual point of view and dual timelines, weaving an intriguing tale. The concept of a medical serial killer adds an extra layer of suspense to the story, keeping readers engaged. Although I did figure out the ending, the book still managed to surprise me with various other twists
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for my honest review, and Thriller Book Lovers Promotions for allowing me to be a part of this tour!

Another great thriller by Jessica Payne!
Her books always had me on edge and interested from the beginning until the end. Make sure you read the trigger warnings before reading this book because the topic may be sensitive to some of you.
The plot is interesting, with the mystery and the medical background. The writing style is easy to read and the author discussed the sensitive topic in this story really well.
The pacing is good and the short chapters makes me keep flipping the pages to know more.
The characters are suspicious and comes with a complex history and relationships.
I find it hard to know who to trust cause each of them have their own secrets.
Not just a mystery suspense story, it also comes with a dash of swoon-worthy and angsty romance!
While I manage to guess the twist early on, it doesn’t hinder my enjoyment for reading this one. I actually feel like I win something knowing I was right!
However, I would have like more explanation regrading the killer’s motive and adding the killer’s POV would have been great as well.
Overall, this is a gripping fast-paced psychological thriller. The idea is also unique, there’s not a lot of medical serial killer story out there so this one was a breath of fresh air for me.
I’m enjoying my time reading to find out the truth and figure out who’s the culprit, I would recommend it for those who love to read thrillers with medical background then you’ll have to check this one out!
⚠️ 𝐓𝐖: fatal illness and physician-assisted suicide.
I received an advanced review copy for free through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Special thanks to the publisher and the author!

Well this definitely doesn't make me want to go to the hospital any time soon ....
I liked this book. It was fast read. Good pace but too long.. kinda dragged . Overall I enjoyed it though.
#Netgalley #arc 🤘

It’s a good thing Chloe, the main character, couldn’t see my facial expressions as I read since I scowled a lot.
I kept thinking for someone who has so much education and experience she possessed little common sense.
How could she take a job where she was workin alongside her ex husband?? And why was she spending so much time with him???
Turns out I was the dunce because Payne bamboozled me very well with who the culprit was.
Coding in book land!!!

A medical serial killer and a nursing practitioner who can’t tell anything to anyone? Well this is the kind of thrillers that promises a fast read. And it actually did.
Chloe and Elton are finally settling down with a ring on her finger, a new car and a home to their name. Portland is the city that attracted them to settle down where they both will have secure positions, unlike their times as travel nurses. But on the first day, all the dreams that they built together starts to shake when Chloe realises that she has to work with Dr. Jameson, her ex-husband from Seattle who she left after she realises who he is. Chloe struggles with her work because the past comes crashing to her in the form of same situations being repeated in the same ward as her past. She starts doubting Jameson is scared that her life might be in danger. Being unable to tell anyone, including Elton, Chloe tries to frame and make Jameson confess. What is Chloe right?
This was a creepy book with so many situations that made me turn my head and look through my window! It radiated fear every time Jameson appeared in the book, with POVs from past and present giving the same eerie vibe. I liked the protagonist and her determination to catch the culprit. Although I actually figured out the killer way before, it was nonetheless a shock to read the circumstances surrounding it. A great book to read especially if you are a thriller fan!

Although I'm the type of reader who's usually immune to hooks and taglines, the one for The Good Doctor (Grey's anatomy with murder) was accurate in the best way possible. If you're fan of medical dramas with compelling characters make sure you pick up this one! If like me, you consume a lot of psychological thrillers odds are you'll figure out the twist early on but that did not take away from my reading journey at all because I was so immersed in Chloe/Jameson drama.
Chloe is just about to start a new job (and a new life) as a nurse practitioner at a Portland hospital her fiance also got a job at. They bought a new home, are planning their wedding. The only snag being that Chloe's new job surprisingly involves working with her ex-husband Jameson. The two share quite a history. And a number of secrets...
I loved the setting, concept, writing but most of all I was there for the characters and relationships. I am sure I won't be the only one who founds a new book boyfriend in The Good Doctor. Though this book deals with some heavy topics (trigger warnings included in the book) I found it to be a quick and engaging read, something you'd like to add to your summer reading list.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I am a fan of this author’s work but this one is not my favourite …. Overall story is well written except it did feel a little repetitive from the main narrator’s POV .
I did guess the big “twist” at the end , mainly because I just couldn’t see what else could be happening - but I still enjoyed the journey to the end
3.5 ⭐️

Wow! This is a fun and twisted medical serial killer thriller. Jessica Payne is SO GOOD at writing suspense. This book, as well as her others, keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

Chloe is starting a new job at a hospital in Portland; however, what she doesn’t expect on her first day is to walk into work and see that she will be working with her ex-husband Jameson. She has started a new life with Elton and was looking forward to their future together. She realizes that patients keep dying around her ex-husband, to the point that he has had nicknames of “Dr. Death” in the past. But what to do about this, who can she trust, how can she help stop it without also incriminating herself.
I absolutely love when authors incorporate medical drama into their thrillers. Especially if they do it in a way that shows they know some about the medical world. I was so invested with this story and trying to figure out who is actually the one doing all the killing. This was such a fast paced thriller, and the ending surprised me so much. I loved the drama that Payne was able to portray between Chloe and her ex-husband and you can just tell that even though they were no longer together, there was still some tension and sparks there. Definitely one that I would recommend!

You got me again, Jessica Payne.
I had it all figured out. I was a great detective. I analyzed all the clues. Alas, I was wrong, and so I won’t quit my day job. If Jessica and her fast-paced suspenseful thrillers aren’t on your radar yet, here’s where you jump on that bandwagon, buy her backlist, and get ready for this bingeable stunner. Thanks for the opportunity to review!

‘Grey’s Anatomy with murder’ was the hook line that sold me on this book and wow, it did not disappoint!
Once I started reading I couldn’t stop, as I was completely invested in the story from jump. This was a truly entertaining thriller and even though I guessed the twist at the end, it didn’t take away from the story and the revealing was so much fun to read!
This is a book that would be perfect for all your vacation plans this summer! Available June 13th
Thank you #thrillerbooklovers #bookouture #netgalley for my gifted copy.

This was a book that I had a hard time putting down. Not only is the subject of doctor-assisted suicide controversial but the mystery was just as intriguing, it kept me guessing!
As the story unfolds, there are unexpected twists that surprised me! There were many and it kept me flipping pages quickly. Not only was it entertaining, but the reality of it was astounding too. I believe that along with the great twists, characters and the outstanding ending that many are going to love this one just as much as I did.
Thank you to Bookouture and Thriller Book Lovers for the gifted copy!
The book releases June 14, 2023.

Okay read, definitely a slow burn. I did find myself losing Interest lost of the time and kept putting it down. Also, the suspect at the end was pretty predictable.

I like the premises in this book, and I enjoyed reading the book most of the time, but then there were quite a lot of repetition, and in the end it was quite predictable. It is most definitely not a bad read. I admire the way the author has tackled a fairly hard issue in this book, writing about only a very few characters. I like it, because sometimes it is confusing when there are all these characters running around, but on the other hand it is quite hard to not to let the reader know whodunnit. Lots of goof things in this book, and it still kept me hooked. 3,5 stars.

Jessica Payne is an auto buy author for me and her latest THE GOOD DOCTOR did not disappoint! I love her writing style.
This was my first medical thriller and after reading THE GOOD DOCTOR this is a genre I definitely want to explore. I was instantly intrigued when the book was billed as Grey’s Anatomy with a murder and that is 100% accurate!
I was immediately sucked into the story from the very beginning, and I found the ending very satisfying. I was not able to predict it at all! I loved the dual timelines and the back story between Chloe and Jameson. The chemistry between them was undeniable and I thought it added a lot to the story. I appreciate that the author is an RN and can write from a realistic medical standpoint.
Thriller fans will eat this one up and I highly recommend adding THE GOOD DOCTOR to your summer reading list!

They said it would be like Grey’s Anatomy with murder and they were right!
Since I read Do No Harm by Jack Jordan I’ve become a sucker for medical thrillers, and this one was very well written. You can just tell Payne is a running nurse because the medical knowledge was astounding.
In our story, the protagonist Chloe is finally content. She’s moved into her new home with her fiancé Elton and is starting her nursing career at the ICU at Portland General Hospital. But she soon discovers that she’ll be working closely with Dr Jameson Smith, her ex-husband!
The two share a dark secret and three years ago Chloe managed to run away from their marriage.
Convinced she had put that life behind her, today, she realises she is instead reliving the same nightmare.
This was my first Payne novel and I really loved the drama going on between the ex-spouses. I had a bad feeling about one of the characters which turned out to be correct, so I was a little frustrated that Chloe couldn’t see what was truly going on. But other than that it was a solid thriller inside the medical world which touched on some very sensitive but also topical subjects that got me thinking. I also enjoyed some scary moments inside Chloe’s home when she could swear she wasn’t alone!
One thing is sure, I could never be a doctor. 😆
Don’t miss out on this one if you love a solid mystery sprinkled with a love triangle!

I love reading new authors and this was a hit for me!
I love everything medical so it’s no surprise I enjoyed a medical thriller! The plot was so interesting with Chloe relocating with her fiancé and finding out she is working under her ex husband 🫣 sounds like a worst nightmare scenario! I loved following the story unfold and learning of the past between Chloe and her ex husband, Jameson. I definitely thought I had this one figured out pretty early on but I was pleasantly surprised when I was wrong. The author did an excellent job of providing red herrings along the way!
Thank you NetGalley, Jessica Payne, Bookouture and Thriller Book Lovers Promotions for my copy!

OH MY GOSH!!! This one sucked me in and I couldn't stop reading. My heart rate would speed up at times thanks to the way Payne wrote this story. A must read.

The Good Doctor by Jessica Payne is another excellent thriller written by Payne.
I’ve read enjoyed her two previous titles and her newest was no different.
The writing is great, and the characters are so well developed.
I couldn’t help but to be invested here and had to know more.
This was an expertly crafted book with so many twists and turns.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
IMO it was another fantastic story.
