After I read this book, I went back and read the description/blurb again. Without giving away spoilers, it definitely lines up what you are going to read about ... but it's so much more. I was touched to tears in parts and laughing out loud in the next. Second chance would be the broad trope for this book, but through side characters it touches on young love, married love, unrequited love and friendships. I was invested in all of those side stories, too! Another great read by Beth Moran.
Ruth Henderson and her daughter Maggie are starting over. Maggie's father has died and Ruth finds out that they are buried in debt. She has no choice but to return home to her parents until she can get their affairs sorted and pay off all the debts she is responsible for. When teenage Maggie left home years earlier, there was a fallout, and Maggie had vowed never to return. Maggie is also grieving and struggling to find her way in a new school and town, and Ruth is supporting her. Ruth also needs to get a job that will support them as well as allow her to pay off the debts. Her parents are there for her, but Ruth always feels that the strings attached are too much for her. Luckily for Ruth, her friends from her past, welcome her back with open arms, even the boy she was in love with when she left.
I really enjoyed We Are Family. Beth Moran created some wonderful and flawed characters, that are totally relatable. Maggie was a typical teenager. She was grieving, she was angry, and she was self-centered. She didn't think about what Ruth needed at first, typical teen behavior. Despite that somewhat spoiled streak, I really liked her and my heart broke for her. Ruth was a great mom, and was willing to give up her own happiness for Maggie. Her friends were the best. The way they welcomed Ruth back into their group was wonderful. It is always great to have those friends that will welcome you and care for you no matter what. This book could have been heartbreaking, but Beth Moran wrote it in such a way that it was uplifting and hopeful. Ruth's parents also come through for her, which made my heart soar. With grief, friendship, family issues, lost love and new beginnings, I recommend We Are Family.
The absolute best story I have read in a long time. Will be sharing this one with everyone I know! Five stars from this family drama.
This was a perfectly paced novel. An intricate look into a family who are simultaneously grieving and moving on, with a twist of something dark too.
Perhaps later in the novel, there is an element of unbelievability in the narrative. This isn’t a definite criticism, but it does change the story somewhat.
Highly enjoyable, very much recommended. Will be reading more by this author.
I found this novel a little slow. It was a bit difficult to get the full picture of what was happening. There were some interesting characters in the story, but they were not fully developed, which was disappointing. The back story of the protagonist,Ruth, and her neighbour/best friend/love of her life, David, was not fully explored so when Ruth moved back to her family home, next door to David it was difficult to work out why they parted ways and why Ruth made the decisions that she did. All in all , the novel was okay, but definitely needed a more in depth look into Ruth’s world. Thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel.
When her husband is killed leaving her with an angsty teen and a mountain of debt, Ruth has no real option but to move back home to her parents in the small town she left behind 15 years ago. After trying to gain her dignity back and escaping the evul clutches of a madman, she starts to put her life back together and learns that family always has your back.
I have read other books by this author and really enjoyed them. This was just ok to me, and at times left me slightly frustrated at some characters actions and behaviour.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
This book is really a rollercoaster of emotions and family is all that counts.
It's a story about the life of a young woman which 2 times turns 180 degrees and a friendship that never ends.
A great second chance or maybe first chance romance.
Easy to read, like a small town romance.
Have fun reading!
I've previously read and enjoyed books by this author but this one was just ok for me. The main storyline was very generic and I feel like the storyline as been covered many times by other authors. It was an enjoyable but forgettable read.
This is a heartwarming story about family, relationships, and starting over.
Following the sudden death of her boyfriend, Ruth moves back to her parents' home with her teenage daughter. As she tries to put her life back together and work out how she will repay the debt that Fraser had accrued, she rediscovers friendships and re-evaluates her life.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. This was my first from this author, but it will not be my last.
i loved this book, i really enjoyed the style of writing from page one, getting to know each of the characters and their stories, family dramas and friendship mixed in with some of life’s issues made for a great read. beth moran at her best
We Are Family written by Beth Moran is hands down my FAVORITE book by this author. This book gave me all the feels, there's nothing better than having an amazing group of friends/family standing by your side through thick and thin. (I'm getting a little emotional writing this review). Beth Moran writes her characters to be relatable to her readers, they each have their own flaws, and they are so easy to connect with. I was a bit hesitant to start this book because I haven't had the bestest luck with Beth Moran's books, but the best advice I can give y'all is just to go for it, because in the end you might end up loving that certain book. We Are Family had so much to offer, friendships, family, and love, what more could you ask for? This book brought tears to my eyes just reading the first page. I can't really describe my emotions while binge reading this book, it was heart felt, but it was heart breaking at times. I laughed, I cried, I smiled, it was just an outrageous roller coaster ride of emotions. Please do yourself a favor and pick up this beautiful book immediately. Just looking at the cover, it tells me how this loving family overcame their grief.
THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND BOLDWOOD BOOKS FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!!
Ruth Henderson and her daughter Maggie are forced to move back home with Ruth's parents after losing their father and husband. Ruth's husband and Maggie's dad left them with a pile of debt after he passed away, so they are forced to move back home with Ruth's parents until they can get back up on their feet. Ruth vowed to never return home after running away from a fall out she had with her father due to her teenage pregnancy, with those vows made what other choice does Ruth have? Ruth decides to return home with Maggie despite the grudge her father holds against her, Ruth's father lets it be known that he will hold that grudge against Ruth. Despite their broken hearts and grief, Maggie and Ruth make the most out of moving back home. What Ruth needs most is an amazing support group of friends, but she lost all of her childhood friends when she ran away that day, but those same friends that Ruth thought she lost are welcoming her home with opened arms. My heart went out to Ruth, but she honestly made the most out of her situation.
Going home means many things to Ruth Henderson, finally navigating rifts with her estranged father, but how can she do that when he will forever hold that grudge above her head? Maggie was literally my favorite, she was so sweet and so shy. After losing her father, Maggie is swamped in grief, she has to start at a new school, but she expresses her emotions through her ever changing hair colors. I absolutely adore how welcoming Ruth's group of friends were, she thought she lost those friends all those years ago, but when she returns home, they want nothing but to love their friend and her daughter, and help in any possible way they can. Even in the hardest of times, you will always have that one group of friends willing to stand by your side no matter what, and this book truly shows that. The way Beth Moran wrote about grief broke my heart, but when she introduced us to Ruth's friends, my heart was overjoyed with so much happiness. I can't recommend this book enough to y'all, so please, READ THIS BOOK ASAP!!!!!!! I just can't imagine losing your husband and father to your kid, and yet your parents treat you differently over something that happened all those years ago.
Thirty-Three year old Ruth Henderson and her daughter Maggie fall on hard times after the death of Maggie’s father. Ruth must make the difficult decision to move back home and live with her parents. Following the sudden death of her boyfriend, Ruth moves back to her parents' home with her teenage daughter. As she tries to put her life back together and work out how she will repay the debt that Fraser had accrued, she rediscovers friendships and re-evaluates her life.
This is a great book about friendship, family and love. It gets a bit dark towards the end but is generally an enjoyable, light read.
After losing her partner in an automobile accident, Ruth Henderson discovers the seemingly idyllic life she has been leading is a lie. Buried under a mountain of debt, Ruth has no option but to move back into her parent’s home with her teenage daughter. Will Ruth be able to start over in the one place she swore she would never return to, or will she flee once more?
This is a hard book for me to review.
The first half of the book was set to be a solid four or five star read. I loved watching Ruth navigate parenting as a single, thirty-two year old woman. Despite being thrown some of life’s worst curveballs, she kept going. With her newfound support system, Ruth beings to make a wonderful life for herself and her daughter.
Sadly, the second half of the book dropped the rating significantly. The introduction of Ruth’s stocker felt like an unnecessary element. Ruth had already endured so much trauma, it seemed cruel to add a violent predator to her plot line.
*I did learn that this is a reworking of Beth Moran’s previous book I Hope You Dance. I would love to read I Hope You Dance and see if I prefer that version.
Special thanks to Beth Moran, NetGalley, and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
A great read by Beth Moran about love, loss, relationships and grief. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was sad to finish it. The only negative I have is that some of the characters were extremely irritating at times, however, an overall enjoyable read.
Another heartfelt book from Beth Moran that gives all the feels. This a story of coming home for Ruth and Maggie after the death of Maggie's father. Ruth has to navigate grief, dealing with living with parents and then the relationship with her parents, while also trying to navigate who to trust. Maggie is dealing with grief and then moving and starting a new school. This book makes you have all the feels - from laughing to crying. I love Beth Moran books. They always tell a great story. Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the advanced reader copy.

This is a story about a woman dealing with grief and how she comes out on the other side of it. Watch as she faces her fears, finds her people and a second chance love.
Ruth Henderson is a widow who recently lost her husband. She is young, has a teenage daughter and due to financial circumstances is forced to move back home with her parents. She has a mom who loves her fiercely and won’t let her stay down. Finding a group of women through a childhood friend gives her a sense of belonging.
Hope you enjoy this book that made me tear up way too many times.
This was a fabulous book to read. At times I was a little irritated by Ruth being unable to sort herself out. But, the story progressed and I enjoyed it. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
