A great novel set in 17th century England. Witchhunters abound and Nicholas finds himself apprenticed to one, but there's only one problem. He darent admit he can hear the dead. He finds himself torn between speaking up to help others or saving himself from harm. I wanted to reach the end just to find out what happened to him.

1645, and Nicholas Pearce finds himself apprenticed to Judge William Percival - a former witch hunter - who is under pressure to resume his old profession.
Set in England on the brink of civil war where neighbours are turning against neighbours and superstition is rife.
Nicholas has a secret of his own one that could cost his life.

Set in the shadow of Pendle Hill, this is a dark, atmospheric, historical fiction with a great cast of characters. I really liked Will Percival, who was a complex character who had his own demons to bear.

Thank you, NetGalley and publishers, for the ARC
