I loved Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up and was over the moon to get the opportunity to read the followup. It does not disappoint. I loved reading more of Nell (I can relate to Nell on so many levels) and Cricket (I want Cricket as a friend too!) Heartwarming, hilarious, just absolutely brilliant. I really recommend.
Thank you Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the e-arc.
Having adored the first book, I had high hopes for this. Whilst I personally didn’t enjoy quite as much as the first, it was an entertaining read, and catching up with Cherished characters was wonderful.a
Consistently entertaining and great for a light read. I think I still prefer the first book, which felt fresh and original. Its hard to keep that element with a sequel.
More Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up by Alexandra Potter was a great follow up to her previous book. It was great revisiting Nell and how her life has moved on since we previously were introduced to her. A fab follow up to the first book and hopefully there will be a third one to follow, an enjoyable read.
After thoroughly enjoying Confessions of a 40-Year-Old F***Up, I was so excited for a sequel.
We pick up around 18 months after the end of the first book, and are reintroduced to Nell, who seems to be settling into life better than she was before,
She is engaged to Edward, they are living together, and she has her trusted friendships, as well as her new best friend, Cricket, the octagenarian who she met in the first book.
The thing is, no matter how settled you think you are, life always has alternative plans, and Nell's life is no different.
From that late urge to want motherhood to dealing with the beginnings of Perimenopause, friendships becoming fragile as everyone is dealing with their own issues and realising you might not actually have it all quite figured out.
I loved getting back in touch with Nell and her life, and though our situations are different, there was still plenty I could relate to.
And I just LOVE Cricket! Her character develops in a brilliant way, too, showing us that age should never be a factor that writes you off.
Fantastic sequel!
Many thanks to NetGalley and PanMacmillan for an ARC.
I really enjoyed being back in Nell's life. She is one of my favourite characters from a book and someone I'd love to be friends with.
I laughed, I cried, and I ultimately felt uplifted as the story ended. Highly recommend this book!
I loved going back to reading about Nell, she is like a old friend and is just like one of us. Just a delight to read and I think Cricket is one of my favorite characters in the book. Such a brilliant read that is funny in parts. The ending was ok, not sure I agree with the outcome but that is life!
Brilliant, lots of laugh out loud moments, some very sad moments too. Nell is back and trying to sort her life out as an obituary writer, podcaster and agony aunt.

This duet followed me around this summer, at home and while I was on vacation, and damn it was a real breath of fresh air.
I absolutely loved this book ! I'm so glad we got more or Nell and Cricket and I started missing them as soon as I put down my kindle.
I love Nell, she's fun and bright and always, always get herself back up when life just keeps on messing with her. It's hard, it's messy and she doesn't do it alone, but piece by piece, step by step, she gets ger
Cricket is who I want to be, who we ALL wish we could be when we grow up. And I feel like I'm always learning from her wisdom.
These books just feel like an ode to life, and I can't recommend reading them enough.
Thank you NetGalley, MacMillan and the author for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Amazing book. I love this author and this follow on was just fabulous.
The writing is so relatable.
Characters are so warming and makes you really feel for them and what they are going through.
Loved the story so much.
More Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up - Alexandra Potter
This is the second book in the series, which I have read, but this can be read as a stand alone. The first book was a very entertaining read which made me laugh out loud on multiple occasions, and this was no exception. This is a perfect beach read or even a good book to pick and put down on multiple occasions - good to keep dipping back into. As with the first book, this one has lots of really strong characters. Thanks so much Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for this e-arc in return for my honest thoughts and opinions.
This book is a sequel, although it could be read as a standalone novel, I recommend reading the previous book before reading this one.
This is a fantastic book, just as good as the first one. Everything has changed for Nell and not in a good way. There are a lot of twists and turns which I didn't see coming. This book was very enjoyable and engaging.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
More Confessions of a Forty Something F**k up
Nell is back and life is still messy and chaotic!
At the end of the previous book, Confessions of a Forty Something F**k Up, Nell was freshly engaged to Ed and life seemed to be heading towards a happy ending but it turns out life has other plans for her...
Not only is there the pandemic to deal with but Nell is being pulled in all directions. Staying in love is hard, her friendships are hard and so is her job. Being engaged hasn't solved all of her problems and suddenly breaking up with Ed adds to the list.
But this isn't a sob story, this is a hilarious return to Nell's life, a modern day Bridget Jones.
Moving in with her best friend, Cricket, an 80 year old widow and life is about to become full of surprises with a coffin decorating course, becoming an agony aunt and heading off to LA.
Sometimes follow up novels can be flat but I found the second book to be just as funny, caring and where love is more than the romantic type. I'm really hoping there's a third book!
Thank you to netgalley for the free ebook.
After reading Alexandra's first book called Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up i just had to read the second book in this brilliant
Nell Stevens series called More Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up by Alexandra Potter and this also had me Laughing out aloud.
This book is just as funny and heartfelt from start to finish and for any woman or man who wonders how the hell she got here and why life isn't quite how she imagined it was going to be...

Review: It was great to be back in Nell’s world again after having LOVED Confessions a couple of years ago, but a little different to be reading a sequel to a book almost directly after having watched the TV adaptation of the first book, I kept having to bring my head back to ‘book Nell’ world and not what I had just watched on the small screen.
I love that this author heard my pleas and wrote a follow up to catch up with all these characters, especially Nell and especially these characters post-covd. I like the way Covid was mentioned as something that had happened and changed the lives of the characters but it wasn;’t something that was the main focus of the book and I don’t think it pulled me away from this imaginary world and into the real world too much. I think this author found a nice balance of keeping it real for the integrity of the characters and being fictional enough to be escapism.
Of course Nell has grown older and slightly wiser but she is still getting the wrong end of the stick and still flailing around trying to conform to normality when she is just too unique of a person to have a ‘standard’ life. I sometimes wished I could go into the book and tell her to just go her own way and do her own thing. Luckily for Nell she has the wonderful Cricket who helps keep her weird. Her other friends are wonderful and I like that we get to catch up with them and where they have been too but they do have rather ‘normal’ lives. Cricket does her own thing and helps to show Nell that we don;’t all have to be the same and not to really care what other people think which I adore about her.
I love the fact that Alexandra Potter never fails to make me laugh. There are some serious issues tackled in this book and yet there’s a great balance between that and Nell messing up for comic value. I laughed a lot, I cried a little, I worried a bit, but overall I really enjoyed being back in Nell’s world and seeing that a happy ending isn’t really the end, a bit like Grease, it’s only the beginning.
So good to have Nell and Cricket back in my life!! This is another blast of a read, following the antics of Nell who is seeking the perfect life but life keeps throwing curveballs her way and we get to see how she deals with it all and sympathise with how she's feeling as so many of us can connect to her feelings going through certain things in her 40's!
This follows Nell after Covid and the pandemic and how that affected her, and us all, and gave with one hand and took away with another! Her podcast kept her going , she had her own home and now life is going back to normal and life is a mess again!!
Her relationship with Ed seems to be going smoothly but the more they discuss things, the more they realise they might be on different paths - not ideal!
And then there's Cricket who is still a force to be reckoned with in her 80's although the pandemic took its' toll on her as she found life very lonely. So she's throwing herself into more activities - build your own coffin club sounded a hoot!! For her it's all about taking back control of her own life - and death! - and that's always something I think she wants Nell to do more of. Maybe now it's the time she's seeing the benefits of following her own path instead of conforming!
I loved the fun of this book, which also touched on the reality of life and the problems we all face. It's one of those books where you enjoy spending time with the characters and it was a wonderful read!
I loved the first book so this one had a bit to live up to. AND IT DID! What a funny, relatable story - Nell reminds us that none of us actually know what we are doing and none of us have it all together haha! We are taken back to Nell through Covid and the reappearance of social activities following Covid. I will say that you can read this book as a stand alone, you do not need to have read the first one to fully understand this one.
Would recommend, an enjoyable read which did have me laughing out loud at a few points!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for this ARC.
Nell is back to remind us that none of us have really got our sh!t together. As ‘freedom day’ looms post COVID Nell is ready to get back to her normal life, socialising with her friends. However, the pandemic has tested relationships and the fear still lingers with some people.
I loved both of these books. Genuinely hilarious and so relatable; despite me only being a thirty-something. I loved that this book references the pandemic but it isn’t about it or focused on it. An absolutely great book to cuddle up with a hot chocolate and bag of buttons!
When I heard there was a follow up to Confessions of a Forty-Something F##k Up, I couldn’t wait to catch up with Nell and the wonderful Cricket. Their friendship is just lovely, and life affirming, in a very non-Insta way.
Nell is our forty-something protagonist, she represents so many women, in our different ways. She is intimidated by the yummy mummy brigade, she isn’t proficient at yoga, hates air-kissing and high heels. These character traits tell me she is definitely one of my tribe.
In this instalment, it looks like Nell has her life under control, her ship is sailing smoothly. Maybe she isn’t such a f##k up after all? Or are the wheels about to come off her wagon again?
All the usual support cast are still in place. Her friends Michelle, Fiona, Holly and their respective families. Women who appear to have their lives on track from the outside, but maybe all is not as it seems there too.
Through the pages, we are taken safely back to the days of lockdown. To exercising with Joe, Zoom quizzes, banging pots and whooping on the doorstep on a Thursday evening, and dancing in a sparkly dress with Sophie in the kitchen. Things that our 2019 selves would be bewildered by.
Cricket is the most wonderful character, my joint favourite in fact, the sort of eighty-something year old we would all love to be. She is bold, wise, doesn’t give two hoots what others think of her, she is unashamedly and unapologetically herself. I adore her belief that the only antidote to anti-ageing is death. It’s the no nonsense, sound logic so typical of her.
My other favourite character is, of course, the gorgeous Arthur. I can’t resist a slightly mischievous, four footed ball of fluff.
The book features an array of wonderful friendships. From cross generational, to long distance, to the support you find when someone has seen you at your best, and your lowest, over many years.
If the More Confessions podcast was real, I would be a signed up subscriber. If we were all being honest, who wouldn’t prefer curling up in a comfy jumper, with a coffee and a good book, than spending hours trying to fight the inevitable march of time on our appearance.
I really loved this catch up with the characters. I leave them at the end of this book wishing them well, and wondering if we will get another peek into their lives again in a few years, I hope so.
4.5⭐️ from me.
