Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Book of Lost Things is a hauntingly beautiful tale
I am so thrilled to have been approved for this book by NetGalley and the publishers. I read The Book of Lost Things when it was first published and it has remained a much loved favourite of mine since then. My own physical copy is now rather worn but, as I say, very much loved. This is such a wonderful story, a fantastic fairy tale for adults, and it is probably the book that I have most recommended to friends and family over the years. Thank you NetGalley and the publishers of this new edition for approving me. You have totally made my day!
This is the story of a boy who has lost his mother. Just like all the original storylines it has a dark and twisted undercurrent to the book. It has the creepy Crocked man in it which is enough to give anyone nightmares, there's heros and wolves and monster, mixing fantasy with real life. This is the story of a boy coming to terms with one of the saddest things we can all go through
I'm a big fan of John Connolly and I bought and read the printed edition of this book. This is supposed to be an illustrated edition but I'm not impressed with the very few rather clumsy illustrations. The book itself, however, is as dark and mesmerizing as it was the first time I read it.
John Connolly is an absolute master who succeeds in blending characters, stories and settings in a way very few authors are able to do.
I don't like fairy tales. I don't like small boys. And I don't like fantasy stories. The Book of Lost Things has it all and I couldn't stop reading; I was enchanted from the first page on (no pun intended).
It is very hard to write a review about such a book; I honestly think that nobody but the author himself is able to use the correct words to describe this work. I can only recommend this book with my whole heart.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for this review copy.
