Rise of the Wanderers by Elliott Morreau
The Wanderlands Chronicles #1
Dark, grim, gritty, and sometimes gruesome – cold chronicle compiled of those trying to survive in a freezing, cruel, soul-destroying, dystopian landscape.
What I liked:
* The graphic visceral descriptions of people, places, and events
* The strength and focus of the girl who became Ruby and then became more
* The twisted motivations and actions so well described
* Wondering how people were able to do what some of them did…
* The roles of various people in the scheme of this world set in the Wanderlands
* That it was believable even if difficult to contemplate and read about
* The way it is set up with historical anecdotes, illustrations, entries from diaries and other collected written works
* That it evoked feelings – mostly negative – but definitely felt deeply while reading this book
* Knowing that there will be another book in the series
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The ease with which evil was perpetrated on those living in this cold cruel world created by the author and wondering if any would ultimately survive or eventually thrive
* That it was difficult to read and dragged my spirits down
Did I enjoy this book? Yes and NO
Would I read the next book in the series? I think so
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – this is my honest review.

An exhilarating work of speculative fiction that enthralls readers from the very first page. The author skillfully crafts a frozen dystopian world, where the remnants of humanity are confined to the Pyre, their only refuge against the frigid landscape.
