A very decent approach indeed to surrogacy shows a young turtle ask where he came from, and it turns out it was from a donor egg. Yes, the story as told here does kind of skip over some of the biology involved – indeed so aquatic is it all that we also learn about daddy seahorses and what they get up to – but its aim is to show that love can so easily be the heart of just such a birth, and that message, brightly colourful as here, is a welcome one to many. If I knew of lots of other books doing this very same thing this might only be four and a half stars in comparison with them, but I don't, so it might as well be full marks. You know if you need this book, and I can see no reason to dissuade anyone buying it.

The illustrations were beautifully done, and the colours were bright and bold without being too colourful.

This is a heartwarming and engaging story about IVF that is aimed for older children (maybe for 4-7 year olds?) and is somewhat fantastical too!

This is a sweet story that’s a great way to explain to children of IVF where they came from. The illustrations are phenomenal and can be enjoyed by little ones and adults alike.

Confession: I teared up. The story was beautifully told. This left a huge tug on my heart. I learned that there is another male species responsible for the egg (no spoilers) and thought of Happy Feet. This story conveys the want of a child and the forever love they have for Sheldon.

The illustrations were spot-on. They are whimsical, yet naturally appealing. Loved the expressions and color palette.

I loved everything about this book. I would never tire gifting this.

The Search for the Magical Egg is a wonderfully written story about an adorable mother and father turtle who share their infertility struggle in a more kid-friendly way to their young son, Sheldon. Sheldon is a curious turtle who one day asks his parents where baby turtles come. His mother and father take him on an underwater adventure to explain how they struggled to find the perfect egg that would produce a hatchling. After struggling to find this special egg, even with the help of some of their underwater friends, Sheldon's parents explained how they almost gave up on their search. One day their journey was over and the most perfect, beautiful and special egg was found and later hatched Sheldon, himself! The author, Becky Morrison, paints infertility, one of the hardest battles families fight all over the world, in the most precious way that is on a level for a child to understand. The pictures are captivating and the story will engage a young audience whose parents may be dealing with the struggle of infertility.

I really liked this book and it has some lovely illustrations.

The book is well written and easy to follow, the descriptions used are wonderful and really suit the story. It was a lovely heart-warming read that would allow parents to raise the subject of surrogacy and adoption as the little turtle in the book wants to know where he came from. His mum and dad had struggled to have a baby turtle and their eggs weren’t strong enough, and they were given a shall that would do the trick by the turtle who lives next door.

It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended and it is a lovely book!

This book does a great job showcasing the struggles parents may endure in the process of trying to have children, alternative options, and the love behind their decisions- all at a very comprehendible level for a child.
