this book disappeared from my netgalley shelf for some reason but the book does sound very interesting and i would like to read it in the future
I tried to read this more than once but found the style heavy going. I was not invested in solving the heroine's problem and thought the Earl rather plodding. Thus I failed to finish the book.
A historical romance mixed with the history and escapism of Egypt. This was the first book I have read from Heba Helmy and I wasnt disapointed. It gave you everything you would want from a book in this genre - romance, history mixed with the right amount of accuracy and imagination.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I am sure it won't be the last. I greatly enjoyed it, not least because of her obvious knowledge of Egypt.
I love a story where I can't tell how the main couple could possibly have a believable happy ending only for them to have one. The Earl, Owen, and his Egyptian heiress, Reyna, have a chemistry that sizzles from the moment they meet. They both have reasons that they can't allow that chemistry to turn into anything real, but both have a terrible time sticking to their reasoning.
Their story was wonderful to read, both Owen and Ranya were likeable characters, and, of course, there were equally nasty characters who were determined to make the couple's plight more difficult.
There wasn't a dull moment in the story and I am happy to recommend it.
This is historical romance. Our female main character is searching for the Earl who had made with her father that they could buy back their cotton lands. Her brother already left to try and find him, taking the money to buy back the land, and disappeared. So her family's honour rests on her.
Except it turns out the Earl died, and the new Earl is our male main character, his son. He knows nothing about this supposed deed, but agrees that she should come back with him to London from Egypt, and in return for teaching him more about the cotton industry, he'll search for the deed. His stepmother is extremely unhappy with this situation when they get home.
This is a pretty good romance and it's nice to get some variation in the setting. Our male main character is somewhat naive in how he thinks people will behave but he gets there eventually.
They don't get together until the very end of the book, so this is a no spice romance!
Set in Victorian times, this romance has a good sense of time and place., Vibrant characters and sensory imagery vividly bring the historical Egyptian setting to life. The socio-political element adds authenticity and depth; the two main characters are well-written. The story has believable conflicts, and both protagonists' characters develop as the story progresses. The romance is gentle. I enjoyed the characters, the historical setting and the romance.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
